“Syncing” a Samsung phone with a car can mean Bluetooth calls and audio, playing music over USB or AUX, or using Android Auto on the car’s display. Check your vehicle manual to see which options it supports, then set up or troubleshoot the connection while parked. The right method depends on both the Galaxy device and the car’s stereo or infotainment system.
Choose what you want the connection to do
For music or calls, Bluetooth is often the simplest wireless option. USB and AUX can also carry audio when the phone and stereo support them. Android Auto is different: it brings supported functions, such as navigation, calls, and compatible apps, to a compatible vehicle display. Basic audio playback does not require Android Auto.

Samsung lists USB, AUX, Bluetooth, and cassette adapters as possible ways to play phone audio, subject to the devices supporting the method. Pair your Galaxy with the car over Bluetooth
- Park the car, turn on its stereo, and put the stereo into Bluetooth pairing mode. The exact control or menu varies by vehicle; use the car manual if needed.
- On the Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
- Choose the car from the available devices. Confirm the pairing code on the phone and car if prompted.
- Select Bluetooth as the car stereo’s audio source. If the car offers separate options for calls and media, enable the ones you want.
Pairing alone does not guarantee that every car supports both calls and music playback; available features depend on the stereo.

Connect by USB for audio or wired Android Auto
First check the car manual or manufacturer’s documentation to identify the supported USB port and whether the vehicle supports Android Auto. A USB connection may play audio without providing dashboard integration.
- Use a cable that fits the Galaxy’s USB-C port and the car’s supported USB port. Many vehicles have USB-A ports, so the cable or adapter may need USB-A at the car end.
- For Android Auto, use a high-quality cable that carries data. A charge-only cable cannot provide the data connection Android Auto needs.
- Connect the phone directly to the supported car port; do not add a USB hub or extension.
- Follow any prompts on the phone and car display, and select Android Auto on the vehicle interface if asked.
Samsung recommends a high-quality data cable when troubleshooting a wired connection. A USB-C-to-USB-A cable may be needed where the vehicle has USB-A and the phone has USB-C. Check port support before choosing a cable.

Set up wireless Android Auto
Wireless Android Auto is available only when the phone and vehicle support it. Check the manual for the exact car’s compatibility and setup procedure, then follow its prompts. Samsung confirms that a wireless version exists but does not establish support for every Galaxy model or vehicle.

Use AUX for basic audio
If the stereo has an AUX IN jack, connect the phone using a suitable audio cable or adapter. Galaxy phones without a headphone jack may need a USB-C headphone adapter, as Samsung notes in its connection guidance. AUX carries audio; it does not provide Android Auto or car-display integration.

Troubleshoot a connection that does not work
USB or wired Android Auto
- Try a known data-capable, high-quality cable and connect it directly to the car’s supported USB port.
- Try another vehicle USB port if the manual indicates it supports the connection. Some ports may be intended only for charging.
- For a Galaxy running Android OS 15 (One UI 7.0) or later, unlock the device before Android Auto starts, as Samsung specifies in its unlocking guidance.
- If the phone’s USB connection mode needs adjustment, reconnect the cable, open the USB notification or options, and select Transferring files / Android Auto. This is the label Samsung gives in its current Galaxy troubleshooting guidance.
- Check whether an infotainment-system update is available for the vehicle.
Bluetooth calls or audio
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on both the Galaxy and the car, and that the stereo is set to Bluetooth as its audio source.
- On the Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, open the settings for the paired car, and check that Calls and Audio are enabled if those options appear.
- If the connection still fails, remove or unpair the car from the phone and pair the devices again.
Android Auto still will not start
- Verify that both the Galaxy phone and the specific vehicle support Android Auto.
- Restart the phone and install any available phone software updates.
- Clear the Android Auto app cache, then try connecting again.
- If the problem continues, check compatibility and infotainment software with the vehicle manufacturer.
