To connect a Samsung Galaxy device to 5G, make sure the exact model supports 5G, your carrier plan and SIM are eligible, and 5G coverage is available where you are. Then open Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks (or Mobile Network) > Network mode and select an option that includes 5G. A compatible device in an eligible service area may connect automatically; the menu and status icon can vary by model, carrier, software and region.
What you need before connecting
- A 5G-capable model: Check the exact Galaxy phone or tablet model in its specifications or with Samsung. Not every Samsung device supports 5G.
- A compatible plan and SIM: Ask your carrier whether your plan includes 5G and whether your SIM is compatible. An older SIM may not work with a 5G plan.
- 5G coverage at your location: Availability depends on your carrier, region and current network conditions. Check with your carrier for local service information.

Turn on 5G in Galaxy settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap Mobile Networks or Mobile Network.
- Tap Network mode.
- Choose a mode that includes 5G. The available choices depend on your device and carrier; some devices may show an option labeled GLOBAL.

Check whether the phone is connected
Look at the status bar for a 5G indicator. Its appearance can differ by carrier, and it may not remain visible if 5G service is unavailable at your current location. A Galaxy device may use 4G/LTE or 3G instead when it cannot connect to 5G.

If your Samsung device is not connecting to 5G
A missing 5G icon does not necessarily mean the settings are wrong. Check the dependencies in this order:

- Confirm the exact model supports 5G. If it does not, changing Network mode will not add 5G capability.
- Confirm your plan and SIM with the carrier. Verify that 5G is included and that the SIM is compatible.
- Check coverage where you are. Service can vary by carrier, region and local network conditions.
- Review Network mode. Return to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks/Mobile Network > Network mode and choose an available option that includes 5G.
- Restart the device. Samsung recommends restarting if the prerequisites and setting are correct but the connection still does not work.
- Contact your carrier if the issue continues. The carrier can check your plan, SIM and local service. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance is available through its US support page and UK support page.
