You can use a Galaxy Tab as a desktop-style workspace by connecting a keyboard and mouse, then using Samsung DeX on a compatible TV or monitor. For a wired display, connect a compatible USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable; for a wireless display, use a TV or monitor that supports Miracast. Check your exact tablet model first: some Galaxy Tabs, including the Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE series, do not support HDMI output.
Check what your tablet and display support
Before buying an adapter or setting up DeX, find the full model name or model number of your Galaxy Tab and check Samsung’s DeX compatibility guidance. Samsung identifies the Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE series as not supporting HDMI output. Wireless DeX has its own model limitations; Samsung says the Tab S4 does not support wireless DeX.

For a wired setup, the tablet must support HDMI output and the display needs an HDMI input. For a wireless setup, choose a compatible TV or monitor that supports Miracast. Do not assume a touchscreen monitor will function as a DeX touchscreen: Samsung says touchscreen displays are not compatible with DeX functionality.

Connect a keyboard and mouse
Samsung DeX supports USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice. A compatible Samsung Book Cover Keyboard is another option, though compatibility depends on the tablet’s generation and size. Check the cover’s compatibility with your exact model before purchasing.

Pair Bluetooth peripherals
- Put the keyboard and mouse into pairing mode.
- On the tablet, open Bluetooth settings, select each device when it appears, and complete any pairing prompt.
Connect USB peripherals
Plug USB keyboard and mouse devices into the tablet using compatible connections. If your wired display adapter occupies the tablet’s USB-C port, you may need a compatible way to connect the peripherals alongside it; confirm the accessories support your model and intended setup.
Connect to a display with a cable
- Confirm that the Galaxy Tab model supports HDMI output. The Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE series do not, according to Samsung’s current compatibility guidance.
- Connect a compatible DeX cable or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable to the tablet, then connect its HDMI end to the monitor or TV.
- Select the display’s HDMI input if it does not switch automatically. Follow the tablet prompt to start DeX or Full Desktop mode.
- If DeX does not start automatically, open Quick Settings and tap DeX. The exact label or path can vary by software version.
A “USB-C to HDMI adapter for Samsung Galaxy Tab” is a relevant product category, but an adapter only helps if the specific tablet supports video output. Samsung’s guidance does not establish compatibility for any particular third-party adapter model or brand, so check the adapter and tablet specifications before buying.

Connect to a display wirelessly
- Make sure the TV or monitor supports Miracast and that your tablet model supports wireless DeX.
- On the tablet, open Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX > Connect wirelessly.
- Choose the TV or smart monitor from the available devices, then approve the connection on the tablet and display if prompted.
Samsung recommends keeping the tablet a short distance from the display if the wireless connection stutters. Wireless setup avoids a display cable, but connection stability can depend on distance and the devices involved.

Troubleshoot a blank or unstable display
- Wired display stays blank: Recheck HDMI-output support for the exact tablet model, inspect and reseat the cable or adapter, confirm the monitor’s selected input, and try another display if available.
- Wireless display is missing: Confirm Miracast support and check whether the tablet supports wireless DeX.
- DeX mode behaves differently: Samsung’s tablet troubleshooting guidance says to use Classic mode when casting to an external display with DeX. Mode names and behavior can vary by One UI version, so follow the instructions shown on your tablet.
- Touch or gestures do not work as expected: Samsung says touchscreen displays are not compatible with DeX functionality. A connected DeX touchpad supports basic operations, but some gestures—including two-finger pinch to zoom—are unavailable.
Samsung’s current DeX guidance includes Android 16 and One UI 8.0 refinements, while settings and mode names can differ on older software. Use the options available on your device.
