The exact steps apply to both the original Bar 2.0 All-in-One and Bar 2.0 All-in-One MK2; check the label on your soundbar and use the matching JBL owner’s manual for model-specific settings.
Before you connect: identify the soundbar and TV ports
JBL documents two wired TV audio connections for the Bar 2.0 family: HDMI ARC and optical. Look at the soundbar’s rear panel and the TV’s available ports before choosing. The HDMI connection must use the TV port marked ARC; an ordinary HDMI port will not provide the intended ARC connection.

The MK2 manual says an HDMI cable is included and an optical cable is sold separately. Check your own package and both devices’ ports before buying a cable.
Connect with HDMI ARC
Choose HDMI ARC if both devices have the required ports. When HDMI-CEC is supported and enabled, it may also let the TV remote control soundbar volume, mute, or power/standby.

- Turn off or mute the TV and soundbar before connecting.
- Connect the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (TV ARC) port to the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC.
- Turn on both devices. In the TV settings, enable HDMI ARC and HDMI-CEC. CEC may appear under a manufacturer-specific name.
- If the TV requires it, set audio output to the external audio system or soundbar.
- Select TV as the source on the soundbar using its button or remote, then test the sound and adjust volume.
JBL cautions that “Full compatibility with all HDMI-CEC devices is not guaranteed,” so TV-remote control can vary by television. See the Bar 2.0 MK2 owner’s manual for the connection and CEC guidance.
Use optical audio as an alternative
Optical is a useful wired option if your TV lacks a usable ARC port or ARC troubleshooting has not worked. It does not carry HDMI-CEC control, so you may need to use the soundbar remote.

- In the TV settings, choose optical or external audio output if the television requires that selection.
- Select TV as the soundbar source and test playback.
If optical produces no sound, check that both cable ends are fully seated and consult the TV manual for its supported digital audio output setting. JBL documents optical TV connections for both model lines; see the owner’s manual for your model.

Which connection should you choose?
| Connection | What you need | TV remote control | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| HDMI ARC | A TV HDMI port labeled ARC and the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (TV ARC) port | May support volume, mute, and power/standby through HDMI-CEC; compatibility varies | Use when both devices have ARC and you want one connection that may also support TV-remote control |
| Optical | A TV optical audio output, soundbar OPTICAL input, and an optical cable | Does not carry HDMI-CEC control; use the soundbar remote or a compatible TV-remote learning feature | Use when ARC is unavailable or does not work |
JBL documents Bluetooth streaming from Bluetooth devices, but its manual does not establish universal compatibility with TVs as Bluetooth audio sources. For a dependable TV setup, use one of the documented wired connections.

Fix common connection problems
No sound over HDMI ARC
- Confirm the cable runs from the TV’s ARC-labeled port to the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (TV ARC) port.
- Enable HDMI ARC and HDMI-CEC in the TV settings.
- Set TV audio output to external speakers or an audio system if required.
- Select TV as the soundbar source.
No sound over optical
- Confirm the TV’s optical output connects to the soundbar’s OPTICAL input, with both ends seated.
- Choose optical or external audio output in the TV settings if required.
- Select TV as the soundbar source and check the TV manual for its digital audio output setting.
The TV remote does not control the soundbar
For HDMI ARC, check that HDMI-CEC is supported and enabled. JBL does not guarantee full compatibility across CEC devices. The original Bar 2.0 manual also documents a TV-remote learning feature for soundbar buttons when HDMI-CEC is unavailable; consult the matching manual for its procedure.
The TV speakers keep playing
Look in the TV’s sound settings for an external-speaker option. The original Bar 2.0 manual advises enabling support for external speakers and disabling the built-in TV speakers; menu wording differs among televisions.
