Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesConnect the TV’s HDMI port labelled ARC or eARC to the soundbar’s designated HDMI eARC/ARC port with one HDMI cable. Then select the soundbar as the TV’s audio output and enable eARC and audio passthrough or Dolby Atmos options if your devices provide them. The exact settings depend on the models involved.
Connect the TV and soundbar with HDMI eARC
- Check the ports and specifications. Find an HDMI port labelled ARC or eARC on the TV and the corresponding ARC/eARC or HDMI input on the soundbar. Confirm the TV and soundbar support the Atmos signal path you intend to use. Dolby’s connection guide explains the port-to-port setup.
- Run an HDMI cable between those ports. Connect the TV’s ARC/eARC port directly to the soundbar’s designated port. Dolby says HDMI 2.0 is enough for ARC and describes HDMI 2.1 as necessary for its eARC setup; check both manufacturers’ guidance for your equipment and cable. If you already have a suitable cable, you may not need to buy another. If you do need one, choose a high-speed HDMI cable suitable for the setup.
- Set the TV’s audio output. In the TV’s sound or audio settings, select the soundbar or external audio system. Enable HDMI eARC and Dolby Atmos or audio passthrough options when available. Labels and menu paths vary by manufacturer and model, so use the TV and soundbar manuals for exact instructions.
- Test with Atmos content. Play a title explicitly labelled Dolby Atmos from a compatible TV app or connected player. Check the soundbar or TV’s format status if available; how an Atmos signal is displayed varies by model. Streaming access may also depend on the app, title, playback device and subscription tier.
What eARC changes—and when ARC may be enough
ARC sends audio from the TV to a connected sound system over HDMI. eARC is the enhanced version and supports a broader range of audio formats. Dolby recommends eARC-capable devices when possible; an ARC-only soundbar connected to an eARC TV can still play audio, but some formats may have reduced support. Whether a particular Atmos source works depends on its format and the TV, soundbar and passthrough capabilities—not simply on the Atmos label.

Dolby describes Atmos as deliverable through Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby MAT. The distinction matters: Dolby’s technical guidance says a TV receiving a Dolby MAT source must transcode it or pass it through over eARC, because ARC does not provide sufficient bandwidth for that case. This specific limitation does not mean every Atmos stream requires eARC.
| Connection | What to expect | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| TV eARC to soundbar eARC | Recommended when both devices support it; offers broader audio-format support. | Correct ports, cable suitability, audio output and passthrough settings. |
| TV eARC to soundbar ARC | Audio may work, but some formats may have reduced support. | Whether the soundbar and TV can handle the source format through this connection. |
| TV ARC to soundbar ARC | Can support some Atmos paths; support depends on the devices and format. | Manufacturer specifications for Atmos passthrough and the format used by the source. |
If the TV has no ARC or eARC port
A soundbar with an HDMI input and a dedicated HDMI output may provide an alternative for an external Atmos-capable source, such as a streaming box or disc player:
#1 Best Overall
- Simplified 5.1ch Dolby Atmos Setup: Enjoy immersive 4D sound with real Dolby Atmos and 5.1-channel audio. Five built-in speakers, including two side-firing drivers, create wide surround without rear speakers. Precision DSP ensures <0.5 ms latency for smooth, theater-like sound. Setup takes less than 1 minute.
- Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
- 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
- 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
- HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.
- Connect the external player to the soundbar’s HDMI input.
- Connect the soundbar’s HDMI output to an HDMI input on the TV.
- Check that the soundbar supports the source’s required video passthrough features and that all connected devices support the intended audio format.
This route sends audio from the external player to the soundbar, rather than relying on the TV to return audio over ARC/eARC. It does not automatically provide Atmos from apps running on the TV; check model-specific capabilities.
If Dolby Atmos is not playing
- Check the cable path: the cable should run from the TV’s labelled ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s designated ARC/eARC port, not an ordinary HDMI input.
- Check TV audio settings: select the external sound system and review eARC, digital audio output and passthrough options. Names and availability differ by model.
- Confirm the source really provides Atmos: verify the specific title, app or external player and any subscription-tier requirement.
- Check every part of the signal path: the TV, soundbar and playback device must support the format and passthrough mode being used. An ARC/eARC mismatch can affect some formats.
- Verify the received format: test known Atmos content and use the TV or soundbar’s format indicator if available. Indicator behaviour is model-specific.
Position the soundbar for listening
Dolby’s soundbar setup guide recommends placing the bar below the TV at approximately ear level, facing the main seating position, with no obstruction between the bar and listeners. Placement does not change whether eARC carries Atmos, but it can affect the listening experience.
