In OBS, enable Automatically Reconnect, set a positive Retry Delay and a finite Maximum Retries, then test the stream while watching YouTube’s Live Control Room. OBS doubles the wait after each retry, so Retry Delay is the starting wait—not a fixed interval. There is no official India-specific retry preset: choose settings around your connection’s actual interruptions and make sure your upload can sustain the stream bitrate.
Set OBS to reconnect after a dropped YouTube stream
The English OBS interface includes Automatically Reconnect, Retry Delay and Maximum Retries. Their exact location can vary by OBS version and output mode. Open OBS’s streaming output controls and configure these options:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Automatically Reconnect: Turn it on.
- Retry Delay: Enter a positive starting wait. OBS doubles the retry wait on each attempt, so later attempts are farther apart.
- Maximum Retries: Set a finite number greater than zero. OBS documents that zero disables reconnecting.
OBS’s official documentation describes how these controls work but does not recommend a particular delay or retry count for India. A larger retry allowance can help when an outage is brief; it cannot restore a connection that stays down or fix a stream YouTube rejects. Avoid treating any setting as a universal preset.
Check whether your upload can sustain the stream
Reconnect settings address what OBS does after a connection loss; they do not prevent drops caused by an overloaded or unstable network. Measure sustained upload performance and choose an encoder bitrate your connection can maintain. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guarantee. YouTube likewise advises choosing quality that can be streamed reliably on your connection.

For context, YouTube’s encoder guidance lists these H.264 examples:
| Video setting | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measured upload speeds for Indian providers. There are no India-specific ISP statistics or validated retry settings established here. Compare the recommended bitrate for your chosen codec, resolution and frame rate against upload capacity that remains stable over time; do not rely on a brief speed-test peak.

- Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS
Keep YouTube ingest settings compatible
Reconnect controls are separate from encoder and ingest settings. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and supported video codecs including H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Use YouTube’s guidance for the exact codec, resolution and frame rate you select rather than copying a bitrate from a different setup. YouTube: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
OBS maintains primary and backup YouTube RTMPS ingest endpoints. Changing an endpoint is a troubleshooting step, not an India-specific requirement; do it deliberately if other checks point to an ingest-path issue. OBS stream connection troubleshooting.

Improve connection stability before the next broadcast
Prefer Ethernet when practical
OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. If your computer and router support it, try an Ethernet cable of a suitable type and length for your setup. A wired local link may remove Wi-Fi as a source of instability, but it will not fix ISP congestion or a poor route beyond your home network.
Reduce bitrate if frames keep dropping
If dropped frames continue, lower the bitrate and test again. Also check the network path, VPN or security software interference, network drivers, router or modem, and cables. OBS advises contacting your ISP if the issue persists after troubleshooting.

Try OBS network options only as a diagnostic
OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing for Windows. It also suggests testing IPv4-only as a troubleshooting measure; if it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4/IPv6 setting. Dynamic bitrate can lower the bitrate during congestion and may help keep a stream connected, but it reduces quality and does not resolve the underlying network problem. See the OBS troubleshooting guide for the applicable options and steps.
Test reconnect behavior in YouTube Live Control Room
- Start a test stream using the same kind of audio and motion you expect in the broadcast; a static test image may not reflect a more demanding live scene.
- Keep YouTube’s Live Control Room open and monitor stream health and any messages while OBS is connected.
- Note whether interruptions are brief or persistent, and whether dropped frames appear before the connection falls.
- Adjust retry allowance for the interruptions you observe, and adjust bitrate or network setup if the stream is unstable before a drop.
YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion and monitoring stream health during the event. Reconnect settings can help OBS recover from an interruption, but they do not replace testing the whole setup.

Troubleshoot common reconnect problems
| What you see | Likely explanation | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| OBS does not retry after disconnecting | Automatic reconnect may be off, or Maximum Retries may be zero. | Enable Automatically Reconnect and set a positive retry allowance. |
| Reconnect attempts seem to take longer and longer | OBS doubles the retry wait after each attempt. | Account for the increasing intervals when choosing Retry Delay and Maximum Retries; the initial delay is not repeated unchanged. |
| OBS reconnects, then drops again | The underlying upload or network path may still be unstable, or the bitrate may exceed sustainable capacity. | Measure sustained upload, reduce bitrate, try Ethernet, and check the router, cables, VPN, security software and drivers. |
| OBS stays disconnected despite repeated attempts | The network may remain unavailable, or YouTube may reject the stream configuration. | Check internet access and YouTube stream messages, then verify ingest, keyframe interval, bitrate and codec settings. |
| Dropped frames persist on Wi-Fi | The local wireless connection may be unstable. | Test a wired connection if possible. If drops continue, investigate the ISP or network route as well. |
