The loop only repeats the file: it does not keep Windows, OBS, your internet connection, power, or YouTube available around the clock. This guide covers the setup and the extra reliability work an unattended stream needs.
Before you configure OBS
Confirm that your YouTube channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, and the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast.

The steps below use OBS Studio on Windows and YouTube’s general encoder guidance. There are no special OBS settings established for India: test the upload connection you will actually use, particularly if it is shared or variable.

Choose how OBS should play the lessons

For a single lesson, Media Source is the more direct choice. For a set of lessons, VLC Video lets you build a playlist. In either case, check the transitions and listen to the audio in OBS before sending the stream.

Configure a single recorded lesson in OBS
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, select the scene where the lesson should appear, or create one for the broadcast.
- Add the video. In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Select the local recording in its properties. MP4 is one of the formats listed as supported in OBS documentation.
- Turn on the loop. Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS will replay the file after playback completes.
- Check source activation behavior. Restart playback when source becomes active defaults to On. Leave it enabled if the lesson should start from the beginning whenever the source becomes active.
- Inspect the preview. Confirm the video is framed correctly and the lesson audio is audible. If using a VLC Video playlist instead, check that the intended files play in order and that Loop Playlist is enabled.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create an encoder stream or choose an existing one.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as password-like: it identifies where the encoder sends its feed and lets YouTube accept it. Do not share it publicly.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube or RTMPS when available, and enter the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room.
- Start with a test. Start streaming from OBS and check the preview in the Live Control Room before relying on the broadcast. Confirm the intended audience can see it and that both picture and sound are present.

Set video, bitrate, and keyframes
Use an OBS output profile that your computer and real upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder-settings guidance, accessed in 2026, lists these H.264 values for 1080p at 30 frames per second:

These are YouTube platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular PC or Indian broadband connection can maintain the selected settings. In OBS, configure the output bitrate and keyframe interval to match the chosen profile; set the video resolution and frame rate to the format you intend to send. For ordinary prerecorded lessons, SDR is usually the simpler workflow; use HDR only if the source, encoder hardware, and full workflow support it.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Its streaming tips warn that total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. Measure upstream capacity during the conditions in which you will broadcast, account for other devices using the connection, and choose a lower bitrate or resolution if there is not enough room. A wired connection can be useful when your PC and router support it and cabling is practical, but YouTube does not require Ethernet.

Test the broadcast and plan for interruptions
Run a test before the intended long stream. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview and monitoring stream health, video, and audio quality. Use representative lesson material with motion and speech rather than checking only a static opening slide.
- Confirm the preview appears and the audience visibility is what you intend.
- Listen for the embedded lesson audio and check that its level is usable.
- Let the recording reach its end and verify that it starts again as expected.
- Watch stream health during the test; if you also record a local archive, check that recording too.
A Media Source loop is a playback setting, not a recovery system. It does not restart OBS after a crash or Windows restart, restore a lost internet connection, or recover from a power cut. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a live stream. A genuinely unattended setup therefore needs separate planning and testing for reliable power, network continuity, and recovery after software or system failure. Do not assume that enabling Loop alone makes a stream reliably 24/7.
