For a 24/7 YouTube stream over Airtel broadband, set OBS to YouTube’s recommended encoder settings, then choose a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously—not one based on the download speed or the plan’s advertised headline. Start with H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate matched to your resolution and frame rate. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom, so test your actual upload under realistic household conditions before going live.
What you need before configuring OBS
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube may require channel verification and live-streaming activation; check eligibility and setup in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- OBS Studio installed on a computer that can remain powered on and connected for the whole broadcast. In this DIY method, OBS and your internet connection must stay available.
- A stable, measured upload connection. Airtel’s plan speed is not a guarantee of upload throughput or uninterrupted service at your home.
- A video source or scene ready in OBS, plus audio if your stream needs it.
Get the YouTube stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- In the Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the URL and key. Use RTMPS if the encoder and YouTube setup offer it.
- Keep the key private: it functions like a password for sending video to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room and replace the old value in OBS.

Choose OBS output settings for YouTube
Start with a compatible encoder profile
For a standard SDR stream, use H.264 as a straightforward compatibility choice. Set rate control to CBR and keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four. YouTube’s encoder guidance allows frame rates up to 60 fps. Match the output resolution and frame rate to your content and what your upload can sustain.

These are YouTube recommendations, not a promise that an Airtel connection at any address can hold the rate. If upload capacity fluctuates or is shared with other household use, choose a lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate rather than risking a stream that continually drops frames. Set audio deliberately
YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo AAC/MP3 in its cited encoder guidance. Set OBS audio to a supported format and bitrate appropriate for your program; do not confuse live encoder settings with YouTube’s recommendations for uploaded video files.
Calculate a bitrate for your Airtel connection
- Run an upload-speed test from the same computer and network arrangement you will use to stream.
- Repeat the test at different times, including when household devices are using the connection. A single best-case result does not show what the line can sustain all day.
- Reserve at least 20% of measured upload capacity as headroom. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend this margin and warn that other people sharing the connection can reduce available bandwidth.
- Subtract capacity needed by other simultaneous outbound streams, then choose an OBS bitrate that fits within what remains.
- Run a test broadcast and adjust downward if OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube reports poor stream health.
For example, if a connection measures 10 Mbps upload under realistic conditions, using the entire 10 Mbps for the video leaves no headroom for normal variation or other uploads. YouTube’s 20% recommendation means planning for about 8 Mbps or less for the stream in that example, and less again if other devices are uploading. Treat the test result as a local measurement, not a guarantee for future hours.

Airtel India’s broadband page advertises plans with headline speeds such as up to 40, 100, 300, and 1024 Mbps, with availability and pricing varying by geography and current offers. Those are plan ceilings, not guaranteed upload speeds. Check the current Airtel broadband plans for your location and still measure your actual upload.
Make the connection more reliable
Where practical, connect the streaming PC to the router by Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi. A wired link can remove one variable between the computer and router, but it cannot prevent router faults, ISP outages, congestion, or competing uploads. OBS identifies dropped frames and disconnections as network-path issues to investigate, rather than evidence that OBS itself is necessarily at fault. See OBS connection troubleshooting.

Test before leaving the stream unattended
- In OBS, start a private or unlisted test stream if appropriate for your channel, and watch the preview in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Use motion and audio similar to the planned broadcast; a static test image may not expose problems that appear with the real content.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and messages, and inspect OBS’s dropped-frame statistics.
- Open the public player from another device to confirm that viewers can receive the stream and hear the intended audio.
- Leave the test running long enough to reveal recurring congestion or local interruptions before relying on the setup for continuous streaming.
YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips cover previewing and monitoring. If the test is unstable, lower the bitrate or output settings and repeat it rather than assuming a 24/7 setup is ready.
Account for Airtel data policy and YouTube archiving
Estimate monthly data use
A stream sends data for every hour it is live. Estimate monthly use from the combined video and audio bitrate, the number of hours streamed, and the bytes represented by those bitrates. Then compare the estimate with the terms for your exact Airtel plan. Airtel India’s published Xstream Fiber terms and conditions state a 3333 GB fair-use threshold per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced; the terms also reserve the ability to amend the policy. This reviewed policy may not apply identically to every Airtel product, plan, or market, so verify current terms with Airtel before depending on a continuous stream.

Do not rely on a 24-hour stream becoming one complete YouTube archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise a complete archive for one continuous broadcast lasting 24 hours or longer. If you need a full recording, investigate a separate local recording and test available disk space and storage reliability; that is separate from YouTube’s automatic archive behavior. Troubleshoot common failures
