How to Configure OBS for a 24/7 YouTube Stream on a Low-End PC in India

Start with OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, then test a light 720p, 30 FPS stream using a stable hardware encoder, H.264, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. If your upload fluctuates, try 480p30 and lower the bitrate. These are starting points, not a guarantee of 24/7 uptime: performance depends on your PC, scene, connection, and local power.

Start with a light OBS profile

  1. Open OBS and choose Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard. Use its result as a baseline, not a guarantee. OBS says system capability varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Test with the actual content and scene you plan to stream. OBS system requirements.
  2. Open Settings → Video. Set Common FPS Values to 30. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720 for a first trial. If the encoder or connection struggles, try 854×480 (480p). Lower resolution and frame rate can reduce system load; keep the scene simple and limit animated sources and filters. OBS encoding performance troubleshooting.
  3. Open Settings → Output and set Output Mode to Advanced, then open the Streaming tab. Choose a hardware encoder if your PC offers one and it performs reliably; options can include NVIDIA NVENC, AMD AMF, or Intel QSV. Hardware encoding moves work from the CPU to a dedicated component, but older encoder generations may produce lower image quality. Test your available encoder against x264 rather than assuming either is best. OBS hardware encoding.
  4. In the streaming encoder settings, choose H.264 and CBR. Set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube’s live encoder settings.
  5. Choose bitrate only after measuring the upload connection at the location and time you will stream. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for 720p30; for 480p30 it lists 0.4 Mbps minimum and 4 Mbps recommended. These are platform guidance values, not a promise that your route can sustain them or that the minimum will look good. Leave spare capacity: YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. OBS’s 2024 connection troubleshooting article suggests about 75% of total upload speed as a bitrate starting point. Treat both as guidance and use sustained upload results, not a brief speed-test peak. YouTube bitrate guidance · OBS connection troubleshooting.
  6. Under Settings → Stream, select YouTube and connect your account or enter the stream key from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. If you change or reset it in YouTube Studio, update OBS as well.

Choose between 720p30 and 480p30

Profile YouTube H.264 bitrate guidance When to try it
720p30 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended Use as a first trial if your PC can encode it and your connection can sustain the bitrate with headroom. It retains more detail than 480p.
480p30 0.4 Mbps minimum; 4 Mbps recommended Try this lower-resolution option if encoding load or connection stability is a problem. Fine details will be less clear.

The bitrate figures are YouTube’s current published H.264 values, accessed in 2026; YouTube does not state a publication year on the cited page. Choose the profile your actual setup sustains, rather than treating either row as a universal recommendation.

Test the whole setup before leaving it unattended

  1. Run a private or unlisted test with audio and movement similar to the real stream. YouTube recommends testing before going live and checking stream health and messages. YouTube streaming tips.
  2. Watch the live output from another device. Confirm that video and audio are present, the stream stays healthy, and reconnect behavior works as expected.
  3. In OBS, monitor dropped frames and encoding overload. For a local recording backup, check that the archive file is growing and that you have enough storage. YouTube also recommends a local archive backup. YouTube live streaming tips for computer.
  4. Repeat the test during the hours you plan to broadcast. In India, test from the actual streaming location and consider its local power and internet conditions; general OBS and YouTube guidance does not establish ISP or power reliability for a particular city or state.

Fix common problems

Dropped frames or an unstable connection

Dropped frames generally point to an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Lower the bitrate; if needed, reduce output resolution too. Try a wired Ethernet connection if your PC and router have ports and you can run a cable—OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable. Check whether a VPN, security software, or network-optimization setting is interfering; if the problem persists, contact your ISP. Ethernet can remove Wi-Fi as one possible source of instability, but it cannot eliminate route congestion or power cuts. OBS connection troubleshooting.

Encoding overload, stutter, or skipped frames

Reduce output resolution or frame rate, simplify the scene, remove unnecessary animated sources and filters, and close other applications that heavily use the GPU. Try a supported hardware encoder if available, then test its image quality on your hardware. OBS encoding performance troubleshooting.

The stream stops during an outage

OBS has an automatic reconnect setting under Settings → Advanced, but reconnect cannot restore power or an internet connection that is down. Test how your setup behaves after a brief interruption; any backup power or alternate connection needs to be planned for your particular installation.

Know YouTube’s archive and DVR limits

A 24-hour live broadcast is not the same as a guaranteed 24-hour saved video. YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours. If a saved archive matters, record locally, check storage capacity and recording load, and consider shorter live sessions. YouTube archive guidance · YouTube DVR guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud

If keeping a low-end PC, home connection, and power running continuously is the hard part, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
