How to Configure Auth0 Organizations for SSO, Branding, and Invites

To set up Auth0 Organizations for B2B sign-in, configure both the Organization and the application’s login behavior: create the Organization, attach existing connections, decide how users become members, select the right login flow, apply branding, and implement invitation routing. Verified email domains can help discover an Organization, but they do not control who can sign up or log in.

How do I set up Auth0 Organizations?

First confirm that Organizations are available under your tenant’s plan or custom agreement; Auth0 says availability varies. Then create an Organization in the Dashboard or through the Management API. The API requires the create:organizations scope. Auth0’s Organization creation documentation covers the setup.

  1. In the Auth0 Dashboard, open Organizations and choose Create Organization.
  2. Enter a unique logical name and, optionally, a display name. The logical name accepts lowercase letters, numbers, underscores, and dashes, and must be 1–50 characters. Users may enter this name in a pre-login Organization prompt; the display name is the human-readable label.
  3. Add any desired branding and metadata, then create the Organization. Auth0 recommends a logo of at least 200 by 200 pixels.

Creating the Organization does not by itself configure how an application uses it. Set the Organization’s connections and membership policy, then configure the application’s login experience separately.

How do I configure SSO for an organization?

Add connections that already exist in your Auth0 tenant, then decide whether authentication through each connection should automatically create Organization membership. A successful login and permission to belong to a particular Organization are separate decisions.

Yubico - Security Key C NFC - Basic Compatibility - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB-C or NFC, FIDO Certified
  • POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
  • WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
  • TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
  • BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.

Add connections and set membership behavior

  1. Open the Organization in the Dashboard and select its Connections tab.
  2. Add the database, social, or enterprise connection the Organization should use. An identity provider must already be configured as a tenant connection.
  3. For each enterprise connection, choose whether it should appear as a button on the Organization login prompt.
  4. Set Membership On Authentication according to your access policy. When enabled, users who authenticate through that connection are automatically assigned membership in the Organization.

For database connections, Organization Signup can expose a self-service signup link, but it depends on Membership On Authentication. If every enabled connection is an enterprise connection and all are hidden, Auth0 documents an error because the Organization prompt has no visible connection. See Auth0’s connection configuration guidance.

Choose the connection set deliberately: an Organization may use enterprise SSO alone, or allow database or social sign-in as well. Enable automatic membership or self-service signup only if that matches the intended membership policy.

How should I configure the application’s Organization login flow?

In the Dashboard, go to Applications, select the application, open Login Experience, and choose the user categories and login flow. Auth0 maps the user categories to these Organization behaviors:

For Business Users, either pass an Organization when redirecting to /authorize, or let Auth0 show a pre-login Organization prompt. Auth0 documents three supported flows:

  • Prompt for an Organization: users select an Organization first, then authenticate.
  • No prompt: the application supplies the required parameters.

A customer-specific sign-in URL can supply that customer’s Organization. A shared sign-in entry point can ask users to identify their Organization. If you choose Both, design and test both the personal-account and Organization paths. The exact application implementation depends on your framework and Auth0 SDK. See Auth0’s user-type and login-flow documentation.

How do I brand the organization login page?

Open the Organization’s Branding section and set its logo, primary color, and page background color. In the Organization context, these settings override the general Universal Login page and email-template branding for Auth0’s out-of-the-box Universal Login prompts. Auth0’s Organization branding documentation lists the available settings.

Consult Auth0’s customization guidance before building a template that depends on those values.

How do I invite organization members?

Invitations depend on application routing as well as the Dashboard action. Before inviting anyone, configure a tenant-level or application-level default login route and implement an application route that accepts the invitation and organization query parameters. That route must call Auth0’s Authentication API Authorization endpoint with those parameters.

  1. Set up the default login route and invitation-handling route in your application.
  2. In the Organization’s Dashboard settings, create an invitation and choose whether Auth0 sends the email or you generate an invitation URL for another email service.
  3. Ensure the invitation URL reaches the application route that passes invitation and organization to the Authorization endpoint.
  4. Tell the invitee to use the email address to which the invitation was sent. For federated login, the identity provider must return that same address.

An invitation URL can also include organization_name to support a tenant subdomain or path; Auth0 says this parameter does not need to be sent to the Authorization endpoint. When accepted, Auth0 marks the invited email address as verified. Organization member roles apply within that Organization and are distinct from Auth0 RBAC roles. See Auth0’s invitation documentation.

What does Organization domain discovery do?

Verified Organization domains can help identify a user’s Organization during pre-login and route the user to its associated identity provider. Only verified domains participate; a pending or unverified domain will not trigger discovery. Auth0 explicitly states that “Organization domains and Organization Domain Discovery do not restrict who can sign up or log in.” Treat discovery as a routing aid, not an access-control rule. See Auth0’s Organization domain documentation.
