For a playlist of recorded wedding videos, compress the video track at a resolution- and frame-rate-appropriate bitrate, keep the audio settings separate, then upload the files and add them to a YouTube playlist. No export setting can guarantee that a compressed file will be indistinguishable from its source, but a short test export can help you find a sensible file-size and quality balance. If by “YouTube Live playlist” you mean a continuous broadcast, use the separate live-stream settings below: an uploaded playlist and a live encoder are different workflows.
Choose upload settings for the wedding footage
YouTube’s current upload guidance recommends MP4 with H.264 video, progressive scan, variable bitrate, and the same frame rate as the recording. It recommends 48 kHz audio and lists AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio as audio codecs. These are recommendations for uploaded videos, not a guarantee that every source will look or sound unchanged after YouTube processes it. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Use the frame rate and resolution of your source rather than upscaling a lower-resolution file. Wedding footage can include both quiet, detailed scenes and fast movement—dancing, confetti, or camera pans—so the right video bitrate depends on the material as well as the output resolution. YouTube’s SDR bitrate figures below are reference recommendations, not mandatory minimums.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute| SDR output | Standard frame rates (24, 25, or 30 fps) | High frame rates (48, 50, or 60 fps) |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 7.5 Mbps |
| 1080p | 8 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) | 35–45 Mbps | 53–68 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s current, undated Help recommendations retrieved on 2026-10-03. They apply to SDR uploads; do not treat them as figures for a live broadcast or as a promise of a particular file size or visible quality. A lower video bitrate generally produces a smaller file, but can make motion or fine detail look worse. If an export is too large, test a modestly lower video bitrate rather than automatically reducing audio quality.

Keep the audio track clear while reducing video size
Configure audio independently from video resolution. YouTube says audio playback bitrate is not related to video resolution, and its upload guidance recommends 384 kbps for stereo audio. Preserve the source audio track where your editor allows, avoid repeated lossy exports, and listen to the finished export before uploading. A high audio bitrate cannot restore detail already lost in the recording or an earlier export.
YouTube’s upload troubleshooting page separately suggests checking AAC-LC audio at 128–256 kbps and 44.1 or 48 kHz when investigating audio or video issues. That is troubleshooting guidance, not the same recommendation as the upload page’s 384 kbps stereo figure. Check the context of the setting in your editor rather than treating the two pages as one identical rule. See YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance.
Check stereo and mono playback
Wedding films may combine a camera microphone, lavalier microphones, a recorder, and music. YouTube warns that poor mono compatibility can reduce audio quality or mute audio during mono conversion; it notes that this can happen when several recordings are used and advises checking that the audio is in phase. Listen to speech, vows, music, and transitions on headphones, and check the mix in mono as well as stereo. This is a potential issue, not something that affects every wedding video.

YouTube’s separate lossless-audio guidance is specifically for music-video partners delivering content for Content ID. It says YouTube accepts compressed audio but that transcoding from lossless audio gives better quality than recompressing lossy audio. That partner-delivery context is not a general requirement for ordinary wedding uploads. See YouTube’s music-video encoding specifications.

Compress, check, and upload the files
- Keep an untouched source. Export a compressed copy from your editing application so you can return to the original if the result is unsatisfactory.
- Match the source. Choose progressive MP4/H.264, retain the recording’s frame rate, and select an output resolution no higher than the source. Use YouTube’s SDR bitrate table as a starting reference for the video track.
- Set audio separately. Keep the source audio where practical, use a supported audio format and 48 kHz sample rate, and do not lower audio bitrate solely because you lowered video bitrate.
- Export a representative section first. Include a quiet spoken moment, music, movement, and any transitions or edits that combine audio recordings. Listen to the export and inspect image detail before encoding the full film. YouTube also recommends testing an upload before committing to a full upload in its format specifications.
- Adjust only what needs work. If the file remains too large, try a lower video bitrate and compare the same representative section. If audio sounds wrong, check the mix, phase, sample rate, and export format rather than assuming video compression is the cause.
- Upload and assign a playlist. In YouTube Studio’s upload flow, select the video file, complete its details, and choose an existing playlist or create one when prompted. YouTube’s computer upload instructions cover playlist selection; uploaded videos, Shorts, and Live content can be linked in playlists.
Higher-resolution uploads can take several hours to process, according to YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance. Allow processing time before judging the final playback, particularly for 4K files.
If you mean an actual live broadcast
A playlist of uploaded wedding films does not itself need a live encoder. For a broadcast—such as a ceremony streamed as it happens—use YouTube’s live encoder settings, which are distinct from upload settings.
- Match the stream to the stable upload bandwidth available at the venue; YouTube recommends a speed test and a representative test stream.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR), and set keyframes to the recommended two-second interval without exceeding four seconds.
- For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video codecs; AAC or MP3 audio; and up to 60 fps.
- For H.264, YouTube lists recommended ingestion bitrates of 14 Mbps at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60. These are live-stream recommendations, not upload-file targets.
- For live audio, YouTube recommends 128 kbps stereo or 384 kbps for 5.1 surround. These live figures are separate from its upload-audio guidance.
- Test with movement and audio representative of the event, then monitor stream health. A quiet test image or speech-only test will not reveal every issue that dancing, music, or venue conditions can cause.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded wedding videos playing continuously on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than a way to compress files or organize an ordinary playlist. It streams to YouTube only and does not broadcast a camera feed.
- Your home computer and connection do not have to stay on.
- Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, with one free day per account.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free day.
