1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCompress wedding footage in two separate stages: export playlist files that preserve the original detail at a manageable size, then configure the live encoder to meet YouTube’s ingestion settings. Before running a 24/7 stream, test a representative section and confirm that the actual upload connection can sustain the live bitrate with headroom. YouTube’s recommendations are platform-wide, not India-specific; choose settings using your footage and the connection at the streaming location.
1. Check your footage before choosing compression settings
There is no reliable universal compression percentage or single wedding-video preset. File size and visible quality depend on the source resolution, frame rate, motion, lighting, detail and audio. A heavily detailed shot of fabric, a fast dance sequence and a static wide shot can respond differently to the same export settings.

- Inventory the clips: note each clip’s resolution, frame rate, orientation, audio and duration. Identify interlaced footage, if any.
- Keep an untouched master: back up original files before transcoding. Work from copies so you can return to the source if the compressed export looks poor or has an audio problem.
- Choose a realistic target: use a resolution supported by your source and audience needs. Do not upscale lower-resolution footage; it increases data without adding captured detail. Preserve the recorded frame rate unless you have a specific reason to convert it.
- Make a short test export: include faces, clothing detail, movement, gradients such as dim reception lighting, and representative audio. Inspect it at the size viewers are likely to watch, check for blockiness or softened detail, and listen for sync problems.
YouTube’s upload recommendations include MP4, H.264 video, AAC-LC or Opus audio, a 48 kHz audio sample rate, and preserving the recorded frame rate. For SDR uploads, its listed video bitrate recommendations include 8 Mbps for 1080p at standard frame rates and 5 Mbps for 720p at standard frame rates. These are recommendations for uploaded files, not live encoder bitrate settings. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

If a source is interlaced, follow YouTube’s upload guidance on deinterlacing. Compare the test export with the source rather than assuming that a smaller file is acceptable: there is no platform-backed wedding-footage compression ratio or universal quality-loss threshold.

2. Calculate the storage and upload implications
A smaller playlist file can reduce the time and storage needed to prepare the stream, but it does not by itself make a live stream stable. Live stability depends on the encoder’s outgoing stream and the sustained upload bandwidth where the stream is running.
- Estimate the total runtime and exported file sizes before assembling the playlist. This gives you a practical view of how much footage the loop contains and how much data must be uploaded to its playback location.
- Measure sustained upload capacity from the actual streaming location, ideally at the time and over the connection you plan to use. A headline download speed does not answer whether the outbound stream will hold steady.
- Leave headroom. YouTube recommends keeping 20% bandwidth headroom and says the total streaming bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. Shared connections and interruptions can affect reliability. Read YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Account for other devices and traffic using the same connection. If the connection varies or is shared, do not plan around its best observed result.
No India-wide upload-speed figure or location-specific encoder setting is established here. Local ISP congestion, shared Wi-Fi, power interruptions or a cellular fallback may affect an individual setup, so use a sustained test at your own location rather than a national average.

3. Keep file compression separate from live encoding
Your compressed wedding files and the live stream are distinct encoding stages. The file export prepares videos for playback; if an encoder then sends a playlist to YouTube Live, it encodes an outgoing live signal using live-ingestion settings. Do not copy an upload-file bitrate into the live encoder simply because both concern video quality.

| Live output example | YouTube H.264 live bitrate recommendation | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | Live ingestion, not the compressed source-file export |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | Live ingestion, not the compressed source-file export |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | Live ingestion, not the compressed source-file export |
These are YouTube’s recommendations, not a guarantee that an Indian connection—or any particular connection—can sustain them. The appropriate choice depends on the outgoing resolution and frame rate you select, codec, and tested upload capacity. YouTube’s live settings page lists additional combinations; consult it for your exact output rather than extrapolating from these examples.
4. Configure and test the YouTube Live workflow
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or open the live stream and obtain the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder or playback system you have chosen. Treat the key as a secret; do not publish it with the wedding videos or share it where others can use it.
- Set the live output codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate as a supported combination for the encoder and the measured connection. Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, staying within YouTube’s four-second maximum recommendation.
- Run a test using representative wedding footage, including music and motion. Check the stream preview and YouTube’s stream health indicators before relying on the setup for continuous playback. YouTube Help explicitly advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- If the workflow records a local archive while streaming, confirm that the archive file is growing during the test. YouTube’s streaming tips include checking the local recording.
- Plan what happens if power, software or connectivity fails. A local computer-based setup depends on those components remaining available, and YouTube’s setup guidance does not promise unattended uptime or automatic recovery for your chosen encoder.
To review stream options such as DVR, use YouTube’s live stream settings guidance. Decide whether viewers should be able to rewind during the ongoing stream; DVR is a viewer-facing setting, not a way to repair an unstable encoder connection.

5. Common problems and what to check
- Stream health warns of insufficient bandwidth: compare the full outgoing bitrate with sustained upload capacity, preserving the recommended 20% headroom. Reduce live output demands or remove competing traffic; do not assume a smaller source file alone will fix live upload capacity.
- Video looks soft or blocky: inspect the compressed source export first, especially movement, faces and fine fabric detail. If the file looks good, inspect the live output resolution and bitrate separately; the two encoding stages can each affect quality.
- Playback stutters or drops: check the actual connection, shared network traffic, power and encoder or playback process. Run another representative test and watch stream health rather than relying on nominal download speed.
- Audio is out of sync or unsuitable: compare the export against its master and listen through a representative sample before building the full playlist. Confirm the audio format and 48 kHz sample rate in the upload export.
- The stream does not reconnect after a drop: verify how your particular encoder or hosting method handles reconnection and test a deliberate interruption before the event. Recovery behavior depends on the setup; the cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee it.
6. Consider who will keep the playlist running
A do-it-yourself encoder gives you control over the playback and live settings, but the computer, software, power and network at its location must keep working. A hosted service can move playback off a home computer; evaluate any service’s specific YouTube support, quality handling, recovery behavior, storage and billing before relying on it.

7. Check rights before broadcasting wedding footage
Before sending a wedding playlist live, make sure you have the necessary rights to the footage and any music it contains. Compression or private ownership of a recording does not itself establish permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s platform encoding recommendations do not determine whether a particular wedding recording or soundtrack may be streamed.
