The most efficient way to complete a Player Pick Squad Building Challenge is to treat the live SBC screen as the source of truth, identify whether it uses the newer Item Score system or a traditional squad puzzle, then spend the lowest-value eligible items already in your Club or SBC Storage. Check the reward, expiry, repeatability and every requirement before selecting anything. Build only to the amount required, use staged submissions when the challenge supports saved progress, and review every item immediately before confirming because EA states that “SBC submissions are final.”
This method applies to FC 27 and to FC 26 challenges, but an individual Player Pick can use different rules. Do not assume a rating threshold, chemistry target, reward, cost, odds or submission format until the current in-game challenge shows it.

Why the live SBC screen matters more than a generic solution
“Player Pick SBC” describes the reward type, not one universal set of requirements. A live challenge may be a simplified SBC that asks for an Item Score, or it may be a traditional puzzle requiring a complete squad with conditions such as overall rating, chemistry, quality, league, nation or club. The reward, expiry time, repeatability, eligible item types and any minimum ratings are also challenge-specific.
FC 27, whose official feature material lists a September 18, 2026 launch date, retains both formats. EA describes the streamlined format as intended for most Player and Upgrade SBCs, while traditional puzzles remain for more complex challenges. Updates can alter the available challenges and their rules, so use the current game interface every time you begin.

Five-minute pre-build check
Open the exact Player Pick SBC and record the following before moving an item into the submission area:
| Check | What to record | Why it prevents waste |
|---|---|---|
| Reward | The exact pick or pack description and whether it is tradeable or untradeable | Confirms that the reward is worth the items you may lose |
| Expiry | Date and time shown in the challenge | Prevents investing in a challenge you cannot finish before it closes |
| Repeatability | One-time, repeatable, or a stated limit | Determines whether duplicates and reserves should be kept for another run |
| Format | Simplified Item Score or traditional squad puzzle | Sets the correct building method |
| Requirements | Every listed rating, chemistry, quality, league, nation, club, rarity and item-type condition | Stops an apparently complete squad from failing at submission |
| Progress state | Current score or which requirements are already satisfied | Shows how much more you actually need to submit |
Read the reward and expiry again after building. A partial completion is not automatically equivalent to the advertised Player Pick. EA’s help information says a simplified SBC grants its full reward when the complete requirement is met and may provide an untradeable partial reward if the challenge expires before completion.

Simplified Item Score SBC
A simplified challenge accepts eligible items and measures their combined Item Score. The interface displays each item’s contribution and the amount of score remaining. EA says the score reflects factors including overall rating and rarity; the exact scoring curve and any minimum-rating rule belong to the live challenge. Add items one at a time and watch the remaining figure rather than assuming that a high-rated card is always the best choice.

A traditional challenge requires a submitted squad that satisfies all displayed conditions simultaneously. Possible conditions include a minimum squad rating, chemistry, player quality, league, nation, club, rarity or a mixture of these. The interface may show several segments, each with its own requirement. An item that helps one condition can make another harder, so validate the entire squad before submitting.
| Format | What you optimize | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|
| Simplified | Enough Item Score with the fewest and least valuable eligible cards | Score contribution, eligibility, remaining score, duplicate rules and saved progress |
| Traditional | A complete squad meeting every listed condition | Rating, chemistry, quality, league, nation, club, rarity, positions and any segment-specific rule |
Efficient workflow from opening the challenge to submission
1. Open the exact challenge and save its details
Use the Ultimate Team SBC menu and select the current Player Pick rather than relying on a remembered solution. Note the displayed reward, expiry, repeatability and requirements. If the challenge is time-limited, decide how many attempts you can realistically finish before the deadline. Never plan around a partial reward as though it were the main pick.

2. Audit the Club and SBC Storage first
EA’s FC 26 guidance specifically recommends checking the Club and SBC Storage before acquiring items from the Transfer Market; FC 27 guidance likewise tells players to inspect eligible Club items and the challenge before submission. Start with untradeable cards, duplicates and low-priority items that already meet the displayed conditions. Search by rating, rarity, league, nation, club and position as appropriate, but do not quick-sell or submit anything merely because it appears in a broad search result.
3. Mark protected items before building
Separate cards you use in active squads, Evolutions, objectives, future upgrades or personal collections from expendable stock. For a simplified SBC, a valuable high-rated card may contribute more score, but it is still a poor choice if a combination of cheaper cards can reach the target. For a traditional puzzle, protect cards that are difficult to replace or that complete another live challenge.
4. Build against the actual progress indicator
In a simplified SBC, place the lowest-cost eligible candidates first and check the score contribution after each addition. Stop adding cards as soon as the required score is reached; extra score does not improve the reward unless the live challenge explicitly says otherwise. If a minimum rating or rarity is shown, satisfy that condition as well.
In a traditional puzzle, fill the restrictive requirements first. For example, if the challenge demands a particular league or nation, begin with the scarce slots and use flexible cards around them. Then check the total rating and chemistry. A squad that meets rating but misses chemistry is not complete, and a squad that meets chemistry can still fail a quality or rarity condition.
5. Use saved progress only when it solves a real inventory problem
EA says simplified SBC progress can carry across submissions and sessions, and duplicate eligible items may count. Staged submissions can therefore help when your Club contains several duplicates but not enough suitable cards for one submission. Submit a small, deliberate batch, record the remaining score, and return later with the next batch.

Staging is not a safety net for submitted items. Once a card is accepted, it is permanently removed even if you abandon the challenge. Use multiple submissions only when the saved progress, duplicate handling or expiry schedule makes it useful.

If the Club and SBC Storage cannot satisfy the live requirement, reread the challenge before opening the Transfer Market. Write down the exact gap: a minimum rating, a missing league, a chemistry link, a required rarity or a number of eligible items. Purchase only what closes that gap. Current listing prices and market availability change constantly and are not established by the official guidance, so do not treat a remembered price as a guaranteed cost.
7. Perform a final, item-by-item review
Before selecting Submit, check the reward, expiry and repeatability again. Then inspect every card in the submission list. Confirm that no active starter, objective card, Evolution, expensive item or duplicate reserved for another challenge has slipped in. For a traditional squad, recheck every requirement; for a simplified challenge, verify that the score target and any minimum condition are actually met.
8. Confirm once and record what remains
Submit only when the reward and loss are acceptable. EA’s wording is unambiguous: “SBC submissions are final.” Submitted player items are permanently removed, and advisors cannot restore them. If you are completing a repeatable challenge, note which useful duplicates remain so the next run starts with an accurate inventory.
How to minimize Item Score waste
Use the smallest sufficient combination
The target is completion, not the highest possible score. Add a card, read its displayed contribution, and recalculate the remaining amount. If one additional low-value card reaches the target, do not add a second high-rated card “for safety.” The game’s progress indicator is more reliable than a community estimate because the challenge may have changed.

Compare score with replacement value
Think in terms of score per card and score per item you are willing to lose. A low-rated duplicate that contributes modestly can be better than a unique high-rated starter. Keep a reserve of flexible cards for future objectives and traditional puzzles, especially when the Player Pick is repeatable.
Respect rarity and eligibility filters
Rating alone does not establish eligibility. FC 27’s feature explanation says score reflects rating and rarity, and an individual challenge can add minimum-rating or item-type rules. Read the eligible-item text and use the SBC search filters, but open the card details when uncertain. A card that appears in the Club search can still fail a special condition.
How to solve a traditional Player Pick puzzle without rebuilding repeatedly
Start with the least flexible condition
Place cards that satisfy a rare league, nation, club or quality requirement first. Leave flexible positions for cards that repair chemistry and rating. If the challenge has several segments, treat each segment as its own puzzle and avoid borrowing a key card from one segment without checking the others.
Balance rating instead of overpaying for every slot
If the live requirement is a minimum squad rating, high-rated cards can offset lower-rated eligible cards, but the exact threshold belongs to the challenge. Use cards already owned before buying upgrades. Do not assume that a famous solution from an earlier SBC remains valid after an update or after market prices change.

Check chemistry after every structural change
Moving a player, changing a league or replacing a nation can alter several links at once. Recheck chemistry after each substitution, then recheck the overall rating and any quality or rarity condition. Submit only when every indicator is satisfied simultaneously.

Duplicates, SBC Storage and repeatable challenges
Duplicates are useful inventory, not automatic discard candidates. In a simplified FC 27 SBC, EA says duplicate eligible items can be submitted and progress can persist across sessions. In a traditional SBC, a duplicate may satisfy a requirement, but its league, nation, club, position and rating still matter.
- Use untradeable duplicates first when they fit the live requirement.
- Keep a duplicate if it is a rare chemistry link or a likely solution for another active challenge.
- Move eligible cards into SBC Storage when the game provides that option, then verify the stored card is still available to the challenge search.
- For repeatable Player Picks, record how many useful duplicates remain before starting another run.
- Never submit a duplicate merely to clear the Club without checking its contribution and replacement difficulty.
Using the Companion App
EA describes the official Companion App as an optional way to complete SBCs and access the Transfer Market on Android and iOS mobile devices and tablets. It is a club-management interface, not a requirement for completing the challenge.
- Sign in to the account linked to your Ultimate Team club.
- Open the SBC section and select the exact live Player Pick.
- Read the reward, expiry, repeatability and requirements before adding cards.
- Use Club and storage filters to locate eligible items.
- Review the displayed score or squad requirements, then submit only after the same final check you would perform in the game.
The app can be convenient for sorting duplicates or completing a challenge away from the console, but a small screen makes accidental selection easier. Slow down at the confirmation screen and inspect the item list.
Expiry, partial progress and recovery decisions
Prioritize a limited-time SBC according to the time remaining and the items you can safely spare. If a simplified challenge supports saved progress, you can submit in stages, but the submitted cards remain gone if you do not finish. EA’s help information also describes possible untradeable partial rewards when a simplified SBC expires before completion. Treat that as a fallback, not as a reason to spend valuable items without a plan.
If the challenge expires while you are building, stop buying cards and check the expired state. Do not assume that progress transfers to a similarly named replacement challenge; a new SBC can have different requirements and a different reward. If your app and game display different states, refresh both and rely on the live challenge that accepts the submission.
Common mistakes and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The score is short after adding several cards | Cards contributed less than expected or were not eligible | Open each card’s contribution, remove ineligible items and add only enough score to reach the target |
| The squad meets rating but will not submit | Chemistry, quality, league, nation, club or rarity condition is incomplete | Read every requirement line and repair the most restrictive unmet condition first |
| A valuable card disappeared | It was included and the submission was confirmed | EA says submissions are final; advisors cannot restore submitted items. Prevent recurrence with a protected-item check |
| Progress appears lower than expected | A different challenge segment or a new challenge was opened | Return to the exact SBC and verify its saved progress, expiry and requirements |
| The market purchase does not solve the requirement | The card met rating but not rarity, league, nation, club or item-type rules | Reopen the live requirement and buy only a card that satisfies the complete condition |
| A partial reward is offered after expiry | The simplified SBC was not fully completed | Check whether the displayed partial reward is untradeable and compare it with the original reward before accepting expectations about value |
What the Player Pick probability information does—and does not—tell you
EA’s probabilities article, dated August 20, 2026, says probabilities are displayed for packs and player picks obtained with FC Points and directs players to the in-game Store’s “Show Pack Probabilities” control for packs available with FC Points. That statement does not establish the odds for every SBC reward. Unless the specific SBC or game interface exposes its own probability information, do not quote a percentage or promise a particular player tier.
A Player Pick SBC should therefore be evaluated on its stated reward, your available items and the opportunity cost of submitting them—not on an assumed pack-odds figure from another product.

- For simplified SBCs, add eligible cards while watching contribution and remaining score.
- For traditional SBCs, satisfy restrictive league, nation, club, quality and chemistry conditions before balancing rating.
- Use staged submissions only when saved progress or duplicate handling makes them worthwhile.
- Buy only the confirmed shortfall, without assuming a fixed market price.
- Review every selected item and every requirement immediately before submitting.
- Remember that submitted cards are permanently removed.
Bottom line
An efficient Player Pick SBC is a controlled inventory decision: read the live challenge, identify its format, spend eligible Club or SBC Storage items in the smallest workable combination, and stop as soon as the requirements are met. Saved progress and duplicates can make simplified SBCs easier to manage, while traditional puzzles demand a complete rating-and-chemistry solution. Because the submission cannot be undone, the final item review is the step that saves the most coins and cards.
