Compare YouTube Shopping affiliate estimated revenue directly with Watch Page Ads revenue over the same dates and the closest available stream or content scope in YouTube Studio Analytics. For ad revenue from live streams and replays, use the Live filter. Do not use total RPM as a stand-in for ad revenue: RPM combines multiple revenue sources and all views, including views that did not show a monetized ad.
Where to find the two revenue figures
- Choose a date range in YouTube Studio Analytics. Keep that range identical for both figures.
- Inspect the revenue-source breakdown. YouTube lists Shopping affiliate revenue separately from Watch Page Ads and other monetization sources. Find the Shopping affiliate estimated revenue and the Watch Page Ads revenue you want to compare. YouTube Help: Understand your revenue sources.
- Filter ad reporting to live content. Select the Live filter when examining ad revenue from live streams and live replays. Use the closest corresponding content scope available for the Shopping figure.
- Record the figures as estimates. Note the selected dates, filters, and any scope difference alongside each value. Do not imply exact stream-level attribution unless your own Studio view supports it.
How to make a fair comparison
Match the dates and content scope
Use the same start and end dates for both revenue sources. Compare the same 24/7 stream if Studio provides a sufficiently specific Shopping breakdown; otherwise compare the closest available content scope and disclose that limitation. YouTube’s help documentation describes revenue-source reporting and live/replay ad reporting, but does not establish that every creator can isolate Shopping affiliate revenue for one exact continuous stream in precisely the same way as live/replay ad revenue. Check the breakdown in your own channel before calling the result stream-specific.

Compare source totals first
For the direct answer to “which source earned more?”, compare the two aligned estimated-revenue totals. Shopping affiliate revenue represents commissions attributed to qualifying purchases of products tagged in live streams by eligible creators. Watch Page Ads revenue is a separate source. Neither a 24-hour broadcast nor a tagged product guarantees that an ad will serve or a purchase will occur.

If the totals cover comparable content, you can calculate Shopping revenue and ad revenue per 1,000 live views or per live hour to aid comparison. These are creator-derived calculations, not official YouTube metrics. State the numerator, denominator, date range, and scope so readers can interpret them. Avoid comparing a stream-only ad figure with a channel-wide Shopping figure as if they shared the same denominator.

Why RPM is not the ad-revenue figure
YouTube defines RPM as revenue after YouTube’s share per 1,000 views, but it includes multiple sources such as ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, Supers, and other defined revenue. It uses all views, including views without monetized ads. Consequently, RPM is useful for broader monetization context, but it cannot tell you how much came from ads alone. Why the numbers can change
Shopping estimates need validation
Shopping affiliate revenue is provisional. Returns and cancellations can change the estimate, and sellers validate commissions on their own schedules. YouTube describes a typical seller lock-in period of 30–90 days, but that is not a universal guarantee; retailer terms determine actual timing. The commission rate shown in Studio is an estimate based on current rates, while the rate applicable to a purchase is the one active when that purchase occurs. Rates can change. Ad delivery and revenue adjustments vary
YouTube says, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” A 24-hour stream therefore does not mean 24 hours of continuously monetized impressions. Estimated partner revenue can also be adjusted, including for invalid traffic and claims or disputes. Keep revenue shares and commission rates separate
YouTube’s partner earnings documentation says creators who accept the Watch Page Monetization Module receive 55% of net Watch Page Ads revenue. It also states a 70% share of net revenues for memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks under the Commerce Product Module. These figures describe those respective partner arrangements; they are not guaranteed yields, and the 70% figure is not a Shopping affiliate commission rate. Reporting checklist
- Use the same date range for Shopping and Watch Page Ads.
- Apply the Live filter to ad reporting for live streams and replays.
- Match content scope as closely as Studio allows; qualify any mismatch.
- Label values as estimates and revisit them after seller validation and YouTube adjustments.
- Keep YouTube RPM separate from ad-only revenue.
- If deriving revenue per live view or hour, identify it as your calculation and define its denominator.
- Do not declare a universal winner: performance depends on traffic, purchases, active commission rates, ad delivery, and later adjustments.
