YouTube does not publish a universal current India-versus-US livestream payout rate: any result is specific to the channel, audience, content, and period.
Choose the metric that answers your question
“How much does YouTube pay for 1,000 views?” has no single country-wide answer. The result depends on what you count and which metric you use. YouTube’s ad revenue analytics guide distinguishes creator revenue from advertiser costs:

- Estimated ad revenue: the ads-only measure to use when comparing livestream advertising earnings.
- RPM: creator revenue per 1,000 views, after YouTube’s revenue share. It can include ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers, and counts views that did not generate revenue.
- CPM: advertiser cost per 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube’s revenue share. It is not the creator’s take-home rate.
- Playback-based CPM: advertiser cost per 1,000 playbacks where an ad was shown. It is still an advertiser-side figure, not creator receipts.
A view is not automatically an ad impression or a monetized playback. An ad might not serve because the stream is ineligible, ads are off, no suitable ad is available, the viewer does not match targeting, the viewer recently saw an ad, or the viewer has YouTube Premium. YouTube’s livestream guidance says, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.”
Compare India and US viewers fairly in Analytics
- Confirm eligibility first. The channel must be monetized and the livestream eligible for ads. For Watch Page livestream ads, the relevant Watch Page Monetization Module must be accepted. See YouTube’s Partner Program eligibility overview and monetization options.
- Open YouTube Studio Analytics for the channel and choose a date range. Use identical start and end dates for both geographies.
- Apply the Live content filter to isolate livestreams and their replays. YouTube documents livestream and replay ad reporting under the Live filter in its live monetization guidance.
- Select estimated ad revenue for an ads-only comparison. Use RPM only if you intend to compare broader YouTube revenue per view, including other revenue sources.
- Break the results down by geography and compare India and the United States on the same channel and comparable streams. Name the date range, metric, and geography when reporting the result.
- Keep the denominator straight. Do not multiply CPM by total views to estimate creator income. Views, ad impressions, and monetized playbacks are different counts.
If one country has more viewers, a higher total ad-revenue figure may simply reflect audience size. To compare performance rather than totals, use the same clearly labeled rate measure and explain what it divides by; do not present a raw country total as a rate.

Why the country results can differ
YouTube says viewer geography can affect CPM because advertisers choose which geographies to target and competition varies among ad markets. Seasonality and ad-format mix can also affect CPM. Those factors help explain why two audiences may produce different Analytics results; they do not establish a fixed creator payout for either country.
India and the United States are both included on YouTube’s monetized markets list. That means both are markets advertisers can target, not that the markets pay equally or that YouTube publishes a country benchmark for livestream creators.

Livestream ads are not guaranteed for every viewer
YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically on when monetization is enabled for an eligible monetized live stream. Mid-rolls can be inserted automatically or manually, but the ad system decides whether an available slot actually serves an ad. A slot therefore does not guarantee an impression or revenue.

Review how the stream is presented as well as its monetization settings when interpreting results. The live monetization help page also describes a Stream Deck integration for inserting ads; this is an operational control, not a way to raise geography-based CPM or guarantee ad fill.

Keep ad revenue separate from total livestream income
Estimated ad revenue answers the ads-only question. RPM may also include YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers, so it cannot be treated as advertising revenue alone. Sponsorships and merchandise are outside the RPM figure described by YouTube. YouTube lists these as distinct earning routes in its guides to earning on YouTube and livestream earning options.

YouTube says the Partner Agreement does not guarantee how much a creator will earn, or that the creator will be paid; earnings come from a share of advertising revenue generated by viewers watching content. For partners who accept Watch Page Monetization, YouTube states the creator share is 55% of net revenues from ads displayed or streamed on public Watch Page videos. Long-form and livestream Watch Page ad and Premium revenue require acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module. Shorts Feed ad sharing uses a separate module, so it is not the right basis for this livestream Watch Page comparison.
How to report the comparison without overstating it
- State the channel, date range, and that the content filter is Live, including replays if applicable.
- Name the measure—estimated ad revenue, RPM, CPM, or playback-based CPM—and say whether it is creator-side or advertiser-side.
- Identify viewer geography as India or the United States, and distinguish totals from per-view or per-impression rates.
- Note whether the compared streams have similar content and audience size. Treat the result as a channel-specific observation, not a rate all creators in either country should expect.
- Keep fan funding, Premium, sponsorships, and merchandise separate if the question is specifically about ads.
