For an always-on stream in India, the useful answer is in your own YouTube Studio data, not a universal RPM estimate.
What counts as ad revenue—and what counts as membership revenue?
Watch Page ads and Premium
Ad revenue from eligible long-form or live-stream videos is Watch Page monetization. Creators must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module to earn from eligible Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium viewing. Eligible embedded playback can also be included. YouTube describes live-stream advertising as a way to earn ad revenue from live streams: YouTube Help’s live-stream monetization guide.
Premium revenue is associated with Premium subscribers watching eligible content. Include it only if your comparison is explicitly about combined Watch Page revenue, and show it separately from ad revenue when you can. That keeps the question “ads or memberships?” from silently turning into “ads plus Premium or memberships?”
Channel memberships
Memberships are recurring monthly payments from viewers in exchange for the perks a creator offers. The income depends on the paying member base and its changes over time; it is not the same revenue pool as ads. See YouTube Help’s membership overview.

Keep other fan funding separate
Super Chat and Super Stickers are distinct live-stream fan-funding categories. They may matter to a broader channel-income report, but do not add them to membership revenue when comparing these two sources. YouTube’s earnings overview gives a 55% creator share of net revenue from Watch Page ads under the Watch Page Monetization Module, and a 70% creator share of net revenue from channel memberships under the Commerce Product Module. Those percentages apply to their respective categories, not to gross viewer spending or a guaranteed take-home amount. YouTube says, “There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you’ll be paid.” YouTube Partner earnings overview.
How to make a fair comparison in YouTube Studio
- Choose one reporting window. Pick dates that cover the same duration for both revenue categories—for example, a calendar month or a defined 30-day period. Write down the start and end dates. Avoid comparing a strong event day for ads with a whole month of memberships.
- Open YouTube Studio Analytics. In Studio, open Analytics and review the revenue data for the selected period. Use the channel’s available revenue breakdowns to identify Watch Page ad revenue and channel-membership revenue. Studio labels and available breakdowns can vary; use the current reporting categories shown for your channel rather than assuming every channel has identical access.
- Record the categories separately. Note Watch Page ad revenue, membership revenue, and—if relevant—YouTube Premium revenue as its own line. Keep Super Chat, Super Stickers, and other fan funding out of the membership figure.
- Record the context alongside the amounts. For ads, note eligible viewing or ad-delivery context where Studio provides it. For memberships, note paying members and changes in the member base over the same period. These help explain the totals; they are not a universal formula for predicting future earnings.
- State the definitions. Report the dates, currency, whether amounts are creator revenue or viewer spend, and whether Premium or other fan-funding categories are included. Do not compare gross payments from viewers in one category with creator revenue in another.
- Repeat across periods. Compare several equivalent windows before drawing a conclusion. An always-on schedule does not by itself establish ad fill, audience geography, ad eligibility, member conversion, or retention, and a short unusual period is not a reliable monthly forecast.

Why the 55% and 70% shares do not tell you which pays more
The percentages apply to different underlying pools: net revenue from Watch Page ads versus net revenue from channel memberships. They are not percentages of the same viewer spend, and they do not account for how many eligible views, ads, or paying members a particular stream has. A 70% share does not establish that memberships will earn more; a 55% share does not establish that ads will earn more.
For your stream, compare the realized creator revenue from each category over matched dates. The result describes that stream and period. It is not an India-wide benchmark, an earnings guarantee, or a forecast for another month.

Eligibility and India-specific checks
YouTube’s standard ad-revenue eligibility route in its current help documentation is 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Meeting a general threshold does not necessarily enable every monetization feature: features can have additional requirements and country availability can matter. Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio to confirm which features and modules are available to your channel in India, and whether you have accepted the relevant module. YouTube’s help pages include announced policy changes scheduled to begin on 1 February 2027. Treat those as future changes, not as the current threshold described above; recheck the Earn area and current eligibility guidance when you apply. The official pages do not establish a universal India-specific RPM or expected membership conversion for always-on live streams, so do not substitute a generic estimate for your channel’s figures.

The revenue comparison itself does not require a special streaming service: use the same channel and stream, then compare its Studio data over matched periods.
