The same announcement reports nine i-ATS driving modes, maximum ground clearance of 266 mm, a 70% grade-climbing ability, wading to 900 mm and performance in an 800 mm cross-axle test. Chery says its validation programme involved more than 1,000 test vehicles, including over 200 all-terrain durability vehicles covering 2.15 million kilometres. Those are company-reported capability and testing claims; they do not establish how the FREELANDER 8 performs against a Defender or Discovery in an independent test.

Why the exact Defender and Discovery configuration matters
Defender and Discovery are ranges, not single specifications. Land Rover’s official vehicle comparison tool allows up to three vehicles and warns that specifications, options and availability vary by market. It says its figures are official EU test figures for comparison purposes, real-world results can differ, optional extras can affect weight, and roof-load limits vary with configuration. The current Defender range includes different body styles, trims and engines, so select the variant you would actually buy.
