To find out which earns more on your channel, compare the Supers and Memberships revenue entries in YouTube Studio Analytics for the same date range and currency. YouTube states a 70% creator share for both under its Commerce Product Module, but that is a share of net revenue after applicable deductions—not necessarily 70% of each viewer’s displayed price. There is no universal winner: one is a one-time live-chat purchase, while the other is recurring monthly income.
Compare the two revenue sources in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics. Select the Revenue tab.
- Choose one date range. Set a custom range, then use that same range for both sources. Keep the currency and the estimate or final status consistent.
- Find Supers revenue. Under How you make money, look for the Supers revenue entry. YouTube says Super Chat and Super Sticker reports are available in Analytics > Revenue > How you make money (YouTube Help: Manage YouTube Super Chat & Super Stickers for Live Chat).
- Open the Memberships breakdown. Under How you make money, select Memberships. YouTube’s membership reporting includes transaction counts and a dedicated breakdown; member counts and gains or losses are also available in Analytics (YouTube Help: Analyze and manage your YouTube channel memberships program).
- Compare the reported revenue totals. Use source-level figures for the identical period. If revenue is estimated, treat it as provisional rather than final.
The result answers a specific question: how much each source contributed to this channel’s reported revenue during that period. It does not establish which feature will earn more for another channel or in another month.

Understand what the 70% share means
YouTube’s current partner earnings overview, accessed in 2026, says creators receive 70% of net revenues from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks under the Commerce Product Module (YouTube partner earnings overview). The figure is not a guarantee that a creator receives 70% of every viewer’s full checkout price.
- Supers: YouTube says local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted before the creator’s 70% share is applied. YouTube currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees (YouTube Help: Manage YouTube Super Chat & Super Stickers for Live Chat).
- Memberships: YouTube describes creators as receiving 70% after applicable taxes and fees; the context depends on the country or region and the user’s platform. YouTube currently covers transaction costs (YouTube Help: Analyze and manage your YouTube channel memberships program).
- Other adjustments: Actual proceeds can also reflect payment amounts, purchase timing, refunds, and an MCN’s additional share. YouTube says membership refunds can be deducted from a creator’s revenue share and an MCN may retain additional revenue. Check the agreement applicable to your channel: YouTube says revenue-share details are set out in individual partner agreements (YouTube partner earnings overview).
For a fair comparison, use the revenue figures YouTube reports for each source. Comparing one feature’s gross viewer checkout amount with the other feature’s post-share revenue mixes different bases.

Account for how each feature earns
Super Chat is tied to eligible live activity
A viewer purchases a highlighted message in live chat. Super Chat is tied to eligible livestream or Premiere activity and to live chat being available (YouTube Help: Super Chat & Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies). When interpreting a period’s total, note how many eligible streams took place, when they happened, and whether live chat was enabled.
Memberships recur in exchange for perks
Memberships are recurring monthly payments for members-only perks, such as badges and emoji (YouTube Help: Analyze and manage your YouTube channel memberships program). Alongside the revenue total, consider membership transactions, active member counts, member gains, and cancellations or losses. A recurring payment stream and a series of one-time chat purchases have different patterns; a single period’s totals do not show the whole trend.

Check eligibility before interpreting low or zero Supers revenue
Super Chat depends on creator eligibility, location, and content restrictions. YouTube lists age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos among the excluded video types; Supers are also unavailable when live chat or comments are turned off (YouTube Help: Super Chat & Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies). A low or zero figure may therefore reflect which streams qualified and how they were configured, not only whether viewers were willing to buy.

Do not use RPM to choose between them
RPM is a post-revenue-share metric that combines multiple sources, including ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. It cannot isolate Super Chat versus membership earnings. Use the feature-specific revenue reports instead (YouTube Help: Understand ad revenue analytics). YouTube also warns that estimated monthly revenue may change because of adjustments, so label an estimate as such when sharing or recording your comparison.
Keep a useful comparison record
For each period, record the two source-level revenue figures alongside the context that helps explain them:

- Date range, currency, and whether figures are estimated or finalized.
- Membership transactions, member count, and member gains and losses.
- Number and timing of livestreams or Premieres, and whether eligible streams had live chat enabled.
- Relevant differences in region or user platform that affect taxes or fees.
This makes the comparison more informative without treating a single month as a general forecast.
