A carrier’s advertised discount may depend on a qualifying plan, trade-in, and continued service, so it is not automatically a lower phone price.
Match the phone before comparing prices
Start with the exact model and configuration. A lower price may reflect less storage, a different carrier version, or a device that is open-box or refurbished rather than new. Those are different offers, not like-for-like prices.

- Model and storage: Match the Galaxy model and storage capacity.
- Condition: Compare new with new, or clearly account for open-box and refurbished condition.
- Network configuration: Separate unlocked phones from carrier-linked models, and check compatibility if you intend to use a specific carrier.
Retailer listings can expose these distinctions through filters for Galaxy family, carrier compatibility, unlocked status, condition, storage, and price. For example, Best Buy’s Galaxy catalog lists individual products and promotions; inventory and prices can change.

Samsung Electronics America’s official MSRP list effective March 2026 gives these unlocked Galaxy S26 reference prices. Samsung notes that prices may change without notice, so use the figures to orient a comparison rather than assume they are today’s retailer prices.

Compare checkout cost and full cost separately
First record what you would pay without a trade-in. Then calculate the offer that uses your trade-in as a separate scenario. This makes it easier to see whether a promotion is genuinely valuable to you or only appears cheaper because it assumes an eligible device.

- Record the device price. Use the matched model and configuration, and note whether the displayed figure is before or after a promotion.
- Add checkout charges. Check taxes, activation fees, or device-connection fees. Some carrier offers calculate taxes on the full retail price before bill credits.
- For financing, write down the installments and required plan. Include the installment length and monthly plan cost, not just the advertised device payment.
- Map bill credits to the months you will remain eligible. Credits may be distributed over multiple billing cycles and can stop if service or plan requirements are no longer met.
- Compare the total expected cost over your likely time with the carrier. Do not count credits for months when you may leave, change plans, or otherwise lose eligibility.
Samsung’s carrier offer terms explain that eligibility can depend on the device, plan, and trade-in combination, and that taxes and fees may be separate from the advertised discount. Offers and requirements change; check the terms attached to the specific offer at Samsung’s carrier offer page and the carrier’s checkout before committing.

Evaluate trade-in credits against your actual device
A quoted maximum trade-in value is not a guaranteed credit for every phone. Samsung’s trade-in terms list conditions that include powering on, a functioning display, no disqualifying damage or liquid damage, no blacklist status, and removal of personal information and software locks. Check the current terms for the exact offer and device.

Read the full terms before assigning a value to the trade-in: Samsung trade-in terms and conditions. If you are unsure your device qualifies, compare the purchase both with and without the trade-in credit.
Keep non-cash promotions separate
Gift cards and ecosystem credits are not the same as a cash reduction in the phone’s price. Note what they can be used for, whether they expire or have other restrictions, and whether earning them requires buying another product. Count them as useful value only if you can use them under the stated terms; do not subtract their face value from the phone price by default.

Use a simple comparison worksheet
For each retailer or carrier, fill in the same fields. If an offer does not state a value or condition clearly, verify it at checkout rather than assuming it matches another seller’s offer.

Recheck the terms before buying
Retailer listings, stock, Samsung trade-in values, and carrier promotions can change. Immediately before purchase, confirm the exact configuration, final checkout amount, required plan, credit schedule, and the conditions that could end credits or make a device balance due. The terms on the live offer and checkout are the ones to use in your final comparison.
