For advertising revenue, use GA4’s Publisher ads report if your property is linked to AdMob, Google Ad Manager, or Google AdSense. Verify how Google News appears in your own property before grouping it: Google’s documentation does not establish one universal source label.
Decide what “revenue from Google News” means
Start by choosing the outcome you want to compare. Total revenue attributed to sessions, advertising revenue, subscription revenue, and revenue per session answer different questions. Do not treat them as interchangeable.
If you want to know which source brought in the most revenue overall, compare total revenue using the same attribution scope. If you want to know which source earned more efficiently, also calculate a rate such as revenue per session. Report both the total and the rate: a high total may reflect more sessions, while a high rate may reflect greater revenue per session.

Google Analytics defines source as the referring platform, site, app, or online location; medium identifies the type of traffic. Google gives google as an example of a source for Google Search, but its documentation does not define a universal Google News source value. Inspect the actual referral values and campaign tagging in your GA4 property before deciding which rows represent Google News. Google Analytics Help: Traffic-source dimensions.
Use session source to compare where sessions came from
For a question such as “How much revenue did sessions from Google News generate compared with sessions from search or social?”, use session-scoped acquisition dimensions in GA4’s Traffic acquisition report. Session source and Session medium describe where each session originated. Use the same session-scoped approach for every source in the comparison. Google Analytics Help: Traffic acquisition report.

First user source answers a different question: how the user first arrived. It is useful for acquisition and user-lifecycle analysis, but it should not be substituted for session source when the question is about the origin of each visit.
Google cautions that User acquisition and Traffic acquisition use different scopes: “Therefore, you should not compare the metric values across the reports because you will see different values for the different scopes.” Google Analytics Help: User acquisition report vs. Traffic acquisition report.

Choose the report and revenue metric that fit the question
For revenue associated with acquisition sessions
Use Traffic acquisition and a clearly named revenue metric. State whether the figure is total revenue, total ad revenue, subscription revenue, or another measure, and make clear whether you are reporting a total or a rate such as revenue per session. Confirm the metric definition and coverage in your property before interpreting the result.
For advertising revenue
GA4’s Publisher ads report can show engagement and revenue associated with website and app advertisements. The report requires the Analytics property to be linked to AdMob, Google Ad Manager, or Google AdSense. It is an advertising-revenue view, not automatically a measure of all publisher income; verify the report’s metric definitions and coverage before presenting it as total publisher revenue. Google Analytics Help: Publisher ads report.
Keep attribution scope and model visible
GA4’s selected reporting attribution model can change Total revenue and Total ad revenue when those metrics are analyzed with event-scoped traffic dimensions. User- and session-scoped traffic dimensions are unaffected by a change to the reporting attribution model. Because the meaning of “from Google News” depends on the dimensions and attribution used, name both in the analysis. Google Analytics Help: Attribution models.

In practice, identify whether the source dimension is session-, user-, or event-scoped, and state the reporting attribution model when it is relevant to the metric. That makes the result interpretable and prevents a session-origin comparison from being confused with a different attribution view.

- Date range: use the same start and end dates.
- Revenue definition: compare the same type of revenue, not total revenue for one source against ad revenue for another.
- Denominator: label whether a rate is per session, user, pageview, or another unit.
- Geography and currency: use the same geographic scope and currency treatment.
- Content scope: compare the same sites, apps, sections, or content groupings.
- Attribution: keep the dimension scope and relevant model consistent across sources.
These controls are a method for making a publisher-specific comparison, not a Google-published benchmark. Calculate results from your own validated analytics and revenue data; do not infer that Google provides a cross-publisher ranking of how much each traffic source earns.

GA4’s direct/(none) row can include visits whose referral information was missing or unavailable, not only deliberate direct visits. Google identifies missing campaign tags, redirects that strip parameters, and ad blockers as possible causes. Review tagging and referral capture before using direct/(none) as a meaningful comparison group. Google Analytics Help: Direct traffic.
How to report the result
A useful report states the source rule, metric, scope, period, and denominator alongside the numbers. For example, identify the exact source value or tagging rule used for Google News, say whether the figures are total ad revenue or another revenue measure, specify session source if you are comparing session origins, and give both total revenue and revenue per session when evaluating volume and yield.

Example numbers in product documentation are illustrative, not industry averages. A claim that Google News earns more or less than search or social traffic therefore requires a publisher’s own appropriately scoped and validated data. Google Analytics Help: Publisher ads report.
