Compare Star Wars movies with other movies and games with other games, and keep Metascore separate from User Score. Those numbers summarize different kinds of reviews, so a movie score and a game score are not a controlled head-to-head measure of quality. For a useful comparison, record each score’s type, its review or rating count, the game platform or version when shown, and the date you checked it.
What Metascore and User Score measure
Metacritic’s About Us page describes Metascore as a weighted aggregation of selected critics’ reviews intended to represent critical consensus. The site separately displays community ratings and reviews as User Scores. These are distinct aggregates: identify which one you mean whenever you quote a number.

Metacritic says it curates reviews from a diverse group of respected critics, scores them, and calculates a weighted average. Its public description does not establish that every review has equal weight or disclose a specific weighting formula, so do not infer either. A User Score, meanwhile, reflects community ratings rather than that critic-review aggregation.
Compare within the same medium first
For rankings, compare film Metascores with film Metascores, and game Metascores with game Metascores. If you put a movie and a game side by side, describe the displayed figures only as separate aggregates: the reviews come from different pools and the scores do not measure performance under a shared, cross-medium test.
#1 Best Overall
The same care applies to User Scores. They are separate community aggregates, not a common poll of the same people under identical conditions. A higher displayed number alone does not establish that one medium or title is objectively better.
Record the score and the size of its sample
A score without its count hides how much source material Metacritic shows for it. Pair each Metascore with the number of critic reviews, and each User Score with the number of user ratings. The counts are not directly interchangeable: critic reviews and community ratings are different inputs.
Rank #2
| Title and medium | Metascore (critic reviews) | User Score (user ratings) | Snapshot checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Star Wars: The Force Unleashed — game | 73 (74 critic reviews) | 7.2 (498 user ratings) | 2026 |
| Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace — movie | 51 (36 critic reviews) | 6.3 (2,449 user ratings) | 2026 |
These Metacritic page snapshots illustrate how to report scores with their counts; they are not a direct contest between a game and a film. The pages can change, so retain the date checked when using their figures.
Check what each Star Wars ranking includes
Movies: the big-screen list
Metacritic’s Star Wars movie ranking describes its coverage as 13 big-screen movies and notes an update on May 19, 2026. Treat it as a ranking of those movies, not every Star Wars television production or screen title.
Rank #3
- The Skywalker saga’s center trilogy introduces Luke Skywalker, who is drawn into the rebellion against the evil Galactic Empire when he is recruited by Obi-Wan Kenobi. Strong in the Force, Luke is confronted with a shocking truth — while Sith Lord Darth Vader faces a supreme decision.
Games: titles represented in Metacritic’s database
Metacritic’s Star Wars videogame ranking notes that its database does not include every game, including older titles such as Dark Forces, X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, and Episode 1 – Racer. Its ranking is therefore of games represented in the database, not a definitive list of every Star Wars game ever released.
Quick Recap
A practical comparison checklist
- Identify the title and medium. Mark it as a movie or a game; for games, record the platform or version when the page lists one.
- Name the score type. Write “Metascore” for the critic aggregation or “User Score” for the community rating.
- Include the count. Add critic-review count to a Metascore and user-rating count to a User Score.
- Record the date checked. Treat both displayed values and counts as snapshots, not permanent figures.
- State the scope. Say whether you are using the big-screen movie ranking or the games represented in Metacritic’s database.
- Keep the conclusion proportionate. Rank within a medium and score type; when showing both movies and games, explain that their aggregates are not a controlled cross-medium comparison.
