Start with company scale, then examine constant-currency growth, the exact profitability measure, business mix, and deal activity. This method shows what the published numbers establish—and prevents a total-company figure from being compared with a segment figure or a bookings number being mistaken for revenue.
For a current baseline, use fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 results from HCLTech, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro. The figures are company-reported indicators, not a complete ranking of delivery quality, customer satisfaction, valuation or market share.

1. Set a like-for-like comparison before looking at rankings
Indian IT-services companies do not always publish identical measures. A sound comparison records five items beside every number:
- Period: Use the same fiscal year, such as FY2026 (the year ended March 31, 2026).
- Scope: Mark whether the figure covers the whole company, services only, or a named segment.
- Currency: Keep US-dollar figures together where possible, and do not silently convert rupee figures using an assumed exchange rate.
- Definition: Preserve labels such as “constant-currency growth,” “EBIT margin,” “operating margin” and “gross revenue.”
- Type of measure: Separate realized revenue and margin from bookings, total contract value (TCV) and forward guidance.
These checks matter because a larger reported revenue base reflects scale, but not automatically better execution or a stronger fit for a particular project.
#1 Best Overall
It also helps to keep a source-date column in your worksheet. Results releases can be updated or reformatted, and a later quarterly release may restate how a segment is described. Record the release date, fiscal period, unit (millions or billions), and whether the number is an annual, quarterly, exit-rate or annualized figure. Never turn an annualized run rate into annual revenue without saying so.
2. Compare company scale using annual revenue
Annual revenue is the simplest first screen. It indicates the size of the businesses being compared, but the companies’ portfolios and accounting presentations differ. Treat it as a scale indicator rather than a complete measure of competitiveness.
| Company | FY2026 reported figure | Scope and label |
|---|---|---|
| HCLTech | $14.7 billion | USD revenue; company-reported FY2026 figure |
| TCS | $30.017 billion | USD revenue; company-reported FY2026 figure |
| Infosys | $20.158 billion | USD revenue; company-reported FY2026 figure |
| Wipro | ₹926.2 billion gross revenue | Gross revenue in rupees; not the same label as the dollar figures above |
HCLTech’s and TCS’s figures are published in their FY2026 results releases: HCLTech FY2026 results and TCS FY2026 results. Infosys reported its FY2026 revenue in its filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission: Infosys FY2026 results. Wipro’s release reports gross revenue in rupees and separately identifies IT Services revenue: Wipro FY2026 results.

Do not turn this table into a “largest is best” conclusion. A buyer may value a specialist engineering capability, a particular geography or a smaller account team more than aggregate revenue.
Scale is most relevant when your contract needs financial and operational resilience: multiple delivery centers, follow-the-sun support, a large transition team or the ability to absorb a major acquisition or platform change. It is less decisive for a narrowly defined product-engineering engagement where a small, highly experienced team may deliver more relevant expertise. Ask whether the provider can staff your locations and technology stack, not merely whether its corporate revenue is large.
3. Measure growth with constant-currency figures
Reported dollar growth can move because exchange rates change. Constant-currency growth is usually the cleaner year-over-year comparison when companies have different currency exposure. Always state the period and whether the number covers the company or a segment.
| Company | FY2026 growth figure | Scope and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| HCLTech | 3.9% constant-currency revenue growth; 6% USD revenue growth | Company revenue; both figures are reported for FY2026 |
| HCLTech services | 4.8% constant-currency growth | Services revenue, not the entire company including HCLSoftware |
| HCLTech IT and Business Services | 3.7% constant-currency growth | Named services segment |
| HCLTech Engineering and R&D Services | 9.8% constant-currency growth | Named services segment |
| Infosys | 3.1% constant-currency growth | Company revenue; FY2026 |
| Wipro | 1.6% constant-currency decline | IT Services segment, not gross company revenue |
HCLTech’s full-year and segment growth rates are in its FY2026 results release. Infosys reports 3.1% constant-currency growth in its FY2026 filing. Wipro’s 1.6% decline applies to its IT Services segment, as specified in its results release.
The correct comparison is total-company growth against total-company growth, or a clearly matched segment against its counterpart. HCLTech’s 9.8% Engineering and R&D figure should not be presented as a direct substitute for Infosys’s total-company 3.1%.
Constant currency removes the effect of translating local-currency results at changing exchange rates; it does not remove acquisitions, divestitures, pricing changes, head-count changes or differences in accounting policy. Read the reconciliation or methodology in each release if the distinction affects your decision. A one-year rate can also be noisy: check several years of results when assessing whether a growth area is durable, but retain FY2026 as the common comparison year.
Rank #2
HCLTech’s three rates tell a useful internal story without proving a universal advantage. Services grew 4.8% in constant currency, while IT and Business Services grew 3.7% and Engineering and R&D Services 9.8%. The mix suggests where HCLTech experienced stronger demand in that period; it does not show that every Engineering and R&D offering will grow at 9.8% or that a buyer will receive that growth.
4. Compare profitability only after checking the definition
Margins can reveal how much operating profit a business generates from revenue, but labels and scopes differ. Preserve the original measure instead of creating an artificial normalized ranking.
| Company | FY2026 reported margin | What the label covers |
|---|---|---|
| TCS | 25% | Operating margin; company-reported |
| HCLTech | 17.2% | EBIT margin; FY2026 company facts/results metric |
| Wipro | 17.2% | IT Services operating margin; segment metric |
| Infosys | Not stated in the cited FY2026 figure set | Do not infer a margin from revenue or growth |
TCS’s 25% operating margin is reported in its FY2026 results. HCLTech’s 17.2% EBIT margin appears in its FY2026 company facts/results; the release notes that certain displayed metrics exclude the one-time impact of new labour codes. Wipro’s 17.2% operating margin is specifically for IT Services in its FY2026 release.
An operating margin for a whole company, an EBIT margin and an IT-services-only operating margin may reflect different costs and businesses. Use the numbers to understand each company’s disclosed economics, then consult detailed filings if a strict margin ranking is essential.
For procurement, margin is context rather than a quoted project price. A provider with a higher corporate margin may still submit a higher rate card, and a lower-margin provider may offer a better transition plan or more favorable risk sharing. Ask how proposed rates cover recruitment, subcontractors, travel, tooling, service credits and management overhead. Also ask whether the commercial model changes after the transition period.
5. Examine HCLTech’s business mix and stated capabilities
HCLTech reports three segments:
- IT and Business Services
- Engineering and R&D Services
- HCLSoftware
The segment growth differences explain why a company-level rate can hide important internal variation: in FY2026, Engineering and R&D Services grew faster than IT and Business Services on a constant-currency basis.

HCLTech describes its focus areas as AI, digital, engineering, cloud and software. Its investor overview lists work across financial services; manufacturing; life sciences and healthcare; technology and services; semiconductor; telecom and media; retail and consumer packaged goods; mobility; and public services. Those are stated capability and industry areas, not independent proof that HCLTech delivers better outcomes than a peer. Review the company’s investor overview for the segment and industry descriptions.
How to use the mix in a real comparison
- Identify the work you are buying: application modernization, cloud operations, product engineering, managed services, software licensing or another category.
- Map that work to the supplier’s reporting segment rather than relying on a corporate slogan.
- Ask each shortlisted provider for relevant case evidence, reference customers, service levels, security controls, delivery locations and commercial assumptions.
- Check whether the proposed team and contract actually use the capability highlighted in the annual report.
HCLSoftware should be treated separately from services when you evaluate licensing, maintenance, implementation and renewal economics. A software product may create a different contract structure from an application-management service, even when both appear under the same corporate brand. Request a bill of materials, license metric, implementation responsibilities and support policy for any software component.
For engineering work, inspect the proposed engineers’ product lifecycle experience, test automation, regulatory documentation and ability to work with your hardware or cloud environment. For managed services, inspect operating procedures, incident escalation, tooling ownership and the staffing model. Segment names narrow the search; they do not replace technical due diligence.

6. Use deal activity as a forward-looking signal—not as revenue
TCV measures the value of newly signed contracts under the company’s stated definition. It can indicate sales momentum, but it is not the same as revenue recognized in FY2026, and it does not reveal the timing, margin or cancellation risk of every contract.

|---|---|---|
| HCLTech | $9.3 billion | New-deal total contract value |
| TCS | $40.7 billion | Total contract value; compare definitions and period before ranking |
| Infosys | Not stated in the cited figure set | No estimate should be substituted |
| Wipro | Not stated in the cited figure set | No estimate should be substituted |
The HCLTech and TCS TCV figures come from their respective FY2026 releases: HCLTech and TCS. Compare the companies’ definitions, contract duration and inclusion rules before drawing a conclusion.
HCLTech also issued FY2027 constant-currency growth guidance in its FY2026 release. Guidance describes management’s expectation; it is not an achieved result. Record the guidance period and range exactly when using it, and revisit it against later reported results.
Deal quality matters as much as deal quantity. Ask whether TCV includes renewals, pass-through expenses, third-party products, optional phases or the entire maximum term. A large multi-year contract can have modest first-year revenue, while a smaller contract can ramp quickly. For a vendor decision, request the expected implementation schedule, committed capacity, termination rights and assumptions behind the announced value.
7. Build a comparison scorecard for your use case
A practical scorecard prevents a single headline number from deciding a complex outsourcing choice. Give each criterion a weight that reflects your project, then document the evidence behind every score.

|---|---|---|
| Scale and resilience | Comparable annual revenue, employee and geographic disclosures, financial continuity | Useful for large, multi-country programs, but not a substitute for delivery evidence |
| Relevant growth | Constant-currency growth in the segment that matches your work | Shows where demand is expanding within the portfolio |
| Profitability discipline | Precisely labeled operating or EBIT margin and its scope | Can provide context on operating economics and investment capacity |
| Technical fit | Architecture credentials, certifications, demonstrations, references and proposed personnel | Tests whether stated AI, cloud, engineering or software capabilities apply to your system |
| Industry experience | References in your regulated or operational environment | Relevant controls and domain knowledge may matter more than total size |
| Commercial terms | Rate card, transition cost, service-level credits, contract duration and exit terms | Determines the actual cost and risk of the engagement |
| Security and geography | Data residency, incident processes, delivery locations and access controls | Critical for regulated data and cross-border operations |
For example, a product company needing embedded engineering may put more weight on Engineering and R&D evidence than on total corporate revenue. A global infrastructure contract may prioritize geographic coverage, operational resilience and service-level commitments. The weights are a buyer decision, not a universal industry formula.
A weighted model can use a 1-to-5 score, but the scale is only useful when each score has a written definition. For technical fit, “5” might require two relevant references, named personnel and a successful demonstration; “3” might mean credible credentials but no reference in your environment. Keep factual evidence separate from the evaluator’s judgment so another reviewer can reproduce the result.
Model total cost of ownership rather than the headline labor rate. Include discovery, transition, knowledge transfer, tooling, cloud or software pass-through, travel, taxes, service credits, change requests, annual escalation and exit assistance. Compare the same contract term and volume assumptions for every bidder. A lower initial rate can become more expensive if the transition is prolonged or routine changes are charged separately.
8. Common comparison mistakes and how to correct them
Mixing fiscal years
Correct the problem by writing the fiscal year beside every metric. A quarterly number from one company and a full-year number from another cannot support a clean annual comparison.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMixing total-company and segment data
Wipro’s 1.6% constant-currency decline is for IT Services, while HCLTech’s 3.9% figure is company revenue. Label each scope in the table and compare like with like.
Treating currency growth as underlying demand
Keep HCLTech’s 6% USD revenue growth separate from its 3.9% constant-currency growth. The first reflects reported-dollar movement; the second removes currency effects under the company’s methodology.
Ranking unlike margins
Do not call TCS’s 25% operating margin, HCLTech’s 17.2% EBIT margin and Wipro’s 17.2% IT Services operating margin a normalized league table. Their labels and scopes differ.
Calling TCV revenue
Record TCV in a separate “bookings” column. A contract’s total value is expected to be delivered over its term, not recognized immediately.

Repeating marketing claims as independent findings
Words such as “leading” or “superior” are management characterizations. HCLTech CEO and Managing Director C. Vijayakumar described FY2026 growth as “superior revenue growth of 3.9% in constant currency” and said annualized Advanced AI revenue crossed $620 million in Q4, according to the company’s release. Attribute that statement rather than presenting it as an independently verified ranking.
Inferring customer satisfaction or investment value
Revenue, growth, margins and bookings do not establish customer satisfaction, implementation quality, stock-market valuation or future returns. Those questions require separate evidence and, for a buyer, a use-case-specific evaluation.
Assuming a capability label guarantees delivery
“AI,” “cloud” or “engineering” can describe a broad portfolio. Verify the exact platform, certifications, security controls, staffing location, language coverage and operating hours offered in your statement of work. A corporate capability page is not a substitute for a named team and measurable service level.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.9. A repeatable five-step process
- Freeze the date: Choose FY2026 (year ended March 31, 2026) or another single period and record it in the spreadsheet title.
- Collect primary disclosures: Enter annual revenue, growth, margin and TCV from each company’s results release or filing, preserving the original labels.
- Normalize the columns, not the facts: Add separate fields for currency, scope, constant-currency status and metric definition. Do not overwrite a segment figure with a company-wide label.
- Map business mix to the project: Identify which HCLTech segment and peer capability would perform the work, then request evidence for that specific service.
- Validate commercially: Compare proposals, transition plans, service levels, security requirements, geography, references and total contract cost before selecting a provider.
Add a sixth review after the initial scorecard: challenge every conclusion with the question, “What would change this score?” Examples include a reference customer declining to participate, a proposed offshore location failing a data-residency rule, or a service-level credit that is too small to offset downtime. This sensitivity check exposes assumptions that a simple ranking hides.
10. What the FY2026 numbers do—and do not—show
On the published FY2026 measures, TCS has the largest reported revenue and the highest explicitly reported operating-margin figure in this set, while HCLTech, Infosys and Wipro disclose different combinations of growth and segment data. HCLTech’s company revenue grew 3.9% in constant currency, its services revenue grew 4.8%, and its Engineering and R&D Services segment grew 9.8%. Infosys reported 3.1% constant-currency company growth. Wipro reported a 1.6% constant-currency decline in IT Services revenue. These statements describe the disclosed period and scopes; they do not identify a universal winner.
Best Value
HCLTech’s FY2026 release also reported $9.3 billion in new-deal TCV and annualized Advanced AI revenue above $620 million in Q4, with the latter presented as a company statement about an annualized run rate. TCS reported $40.7 billion in TCV. Neither figure should be added to revenue or treated as a guarantee of future growth. HCLTech’s FY2027 constant-currency guidance is similarly a forward expectation, not a realized outcome.
For a defensible decision, use the figures to narrow the field, then test the providers against your workload, risk profile and contract requirements. A company-comparison article can establish scale and reported momentum; only a detailed, use-case-specific assessment can establish whether a supplier is right for your project.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which company is largest by FY2026 revenue in this comparison?
TCS reported $30.017 billion in FY2026 revenue, compared with Infosys at $20.158 billion and HCLTech at $14.7 billion. Wipro reported ₹926.2 billion in gross revenue, a differently labeled rupee measure, so it should not be ranked directly against the dollar figures without a clearly stated conversion and scope.
Did HCLTech grow faster than Infosys and Wipro?
HCLTech reported 3.9% FY2026 constant-currency company revenue growth, while Infosys reported 3.1%. Wipro reported a 1.6% constant-currency decline for its IT Services segment. The scopes are not identical, so this is an indicative comparison, not a definitive performance ranking.
Why use constant-currency growth?
Exchange-rate movements can change reported dollar growth even when local-currency demand is unchanged. Constant-currency figures reduce that translation effect. They still reflect each company’s methodology and do not make segment and company-wide figures interchangeable.
Can I rank TCS, HCLTech and Wipro by margin?
Only cautiously. TCS reported a 25% operating margin, HCLTech a 17.2% EBIT margin, and Wipro a 17.2% IT Services operating margin. The labels and business scopes differ, and HCLTech noted that certain displayed metrics exclude a one-time new-labour-code impact. Treat them as disclosed economics, not a normalized league table.
Is total contract value the same as revenue?
No. TCV is the value of newly signed contracts under the company’s definition, often delivered over several years. HCLTech reported $9.3 billion and TCS $40.7 billion in FY2026 TCV. The amounts do not represent revenue recognized during that year.

What does HCLTech’s 9.8% Engineering and R&D Services growth mean for a buyer?
It shows that this reported segment grew 9.8% in constant currency during FY2026. It does not guarantee that a particular engineering project will grow, succeed or receive that level of capability. Request relevant references, proposed personnel, technical demonstrations and measurable delivery commitments.
How should HCLSoftware be handled in a services comparison?
Keep HCLSoftware distinct from HCLTech’s services segments when assessing growth, margins and contract economics. Software licensing, maintenance and implementation can have different pricing, renewal and support terms from an outsourced services engagement.
What should I request from each shortlisted provider before choosing one?
Ask for a proposal with named personnel, delivery locations, transition steps, service levels and credits, security controls, data-residency commitments, references, rate and escalation assumptions, tooling or third-party charges, contract duration and exit assistance. Match the evidence to your workload rather than relying on corporate revenue or capability slogans.
The Bottom Line
Use FY2026 annual revenue to understand scale, constant-currency growth to compare momentum, and precisely labeled margins to understand disclosed economics. HCLTech reported $14.7 billion of revenue, 3.9% constant-currency company growth, 4.8% services growth and $9.3 billion of new-deal TCV; its Engineering and R&D Services segment grew 9.8%. TCS, Infosys and Wipro reported different scopes and measures, so no single table identifies a universal winner. Let the numbers narrow the field, then decide with technical evidence, security and geography requirements, service levels and total contract cost.
