UK Fuel Finder data is shared with third-party tools, but listings can lag a later price change, so check the timestamp and confirm the pump price when you arrive.
Search by location and the fuel your vehicle needs
Start with your current location or a postcode, then select the correct fuel type. A low price for the wrong grade—or for a station too far out of your way—does not help. Comparison tools can show prices by fuel type along with station details, opening hours and amenities.

The UK government’s Fuel Finder service supplies retail-price and forecourt data to third-party apps and websites; it is not itself the only way drivers can view the results. MoneyHelper’s Petrol price finder asks for location and fuel type and explains that its data comes through Fuel Finder. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero describes the service and its data in its Fuel Finder guidance.

Look at the price per litre and when it was last updated. Retailers are required to report a price change within 30 minutes, and the government says prices are published within that window. That makes listings useful for comparison, but not a guarantee that the forecourt price has stayed unchanged since the timestamp. Check the pump price before filling up.

Check whether the detour is worth the saving
A cheaper price only saves money if the saving outweighs the fuel and time needed to reach the station. MoneyHelper advises avoiding more than a two-mile round-trip detour for each 1p per litre saved. Treat that as a practical rule of thumb, not a personalised break-even calculation: the result depends on how much fuel you buy and the extra distance involved.
Also consider whether the station is already on your route, its opening hours, and any amenities you need. A slightly higher price at a convenient stop may be more worthwhile than a cheaper forecourt requiring a separate journey.

Choose a tool that has data for your area
The government’s 31 March 2026 driver factsheet named Confused.com, DriveScore, Fuel Finder UK, Fuel Spy, Google Maps, MoneyHelper, MoneySuperMarket, MotorMouth, PetrolPrices.com, Petrol Savings, RAC Fuel Watch and Waze as examples of places to find nearby fuel prices. The list does not guarantee that every service currently shows Fuel Finder data in every area or offers identical features: the factsheet said some developers were still integrating the data. Check the tool’s current coverage and features rather than assuming all options work the same way.
The same factsheet reported that around 90% of petrol stations had signed up as of its 31 March 2026 publication date. That is a dated snapshot, not a live coverage figure. It also estimated average annual savings of £40 for households that own a car; individual savings will vary with driving and refuelling habits, so this is not a guaranteed result.
