Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe most reliable way to compare enterprise IT management platforms is to build a requirements-weighted matrix, verify each finalist in a pilot using representative devices and workflows, and model the full cost of operating it. Compare deployment control, data location, fleet coverage, management and security workflows, integrations, migration effort, operational ownership, recovery, and contract terms. A feature checklist alone cannot show whether a platform fits your estate.
Start with the architectural choice: cloud, on-premises or hybrid
Cloud and on-premises are not merely hosting labels. They change who operates the management infrastructure, how quickly upgrades arrive, which networks devices must reach, where management data is stored, and how recovery is designed. Document the target operating model before comparing product features.

Cloud service
In a cloud service, the vendor operates the platform infrastructure, applies service updates and maintains the underlying availability design. Your team still owns tenant configuration, identity, policy, device enrollment, application packaging and incident response. Confirm the service’s data residency, retention, administrative access, connectivity requirements, maintenance windows and disaster-recovery commitments.

Customer-operated on-premises deployment
An on-premises deployment keeps application components and, depending on the design, management data in facilities controlled by the customer. That can help with residency, isolation or disconnected-network requirements, but the customer must provide servers, databases, certificates, load balancing, monitoring, backups, patching, capacity planning and recovery sites. A platform that can technically run on-premises may still impose vendor approval or professional-services conditions for a new installation.

Hybrid or co-managed operation
Hybrid operation divides responsibility between a cloud service and an existing management stack. It can preserve established processes while adding cloud reporting, remote actions or security controls. The trade-off is temporary or permanent operational complexity: administrators must know which system owns each policy, how conflicts are resolved and how incidents are escalated.
Microsoft documents cloud attachment and co-management between Intune and Configuration Manager. That means an organization with Configuration Manager can evaluate an incremental transition instead of assuming an immediate replacement. Omnissa documents both Workspace ONE UEM deployment types, while its architecture guidance says new on-premises deployments are exception-only and require Professional Services; verify that policy directly during procurement.
Build a requirements-weighted comparison matrix
Agree on requirements before vendor demonstrations. Assign each requirement an impact weight and a measurable acceptance test. A simple score can be calculated as requirement weight × evidence score, but keep evidence quality visible rather than adding unqualified checklist totals.
| Evaluation axis | Questions to answer | Evidence to collect |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment and control | Is the service SaaS, customer-operated or hybrid? Where does data reside? What crosses firewalls? Who patches, monitors and recovers it? | Architecture diagrams, data-flow review, residency and retention terms, recovery design, support conditions |
| Fleet coverage | Which Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile, server, rugged, shared and specialty devices must be managed? | Supported-platform matrix for exact OS versions and management modes; pilot enrollment results |
| Required workflows | Can the platform enroll devices, deliver applications, apply policies, manage updates, check compliance, perform remote actions and report at the required scale? | Scenario tests with measurable pass criteria, including offline devices and exception handling |
| Identity, security and integrations | How does it connect to identity, certificates, endpoint security, service desk, directories and network controls? | Integration and authentication documentation, threat model, certificate and failure tests |
| Operations and migration | What skills, infrastructure, change windows, coexistence period and rollback steps are required? | Runbooks, staffing model, migration phases, ownership map, incident and recovery exercises |
| Cost and contract | Is billing per user, device or tier? Which capabilities are included? What implementation, support, renewal and infrastructure costs apply? | Current regional quote and a common multi-year total-cost model |
Separate evidence states
- Documented: the capability and its conditions appear in current product or architecture documentation.
- Demonstrated in pilot: your team observed the workflow on representative devices and networks.
- Roadmap: the vendor has described a future capability that is not available for acceptance testing.
- Not verified: the requirement remains unanswered and should not receive full credit.
Weight requirements by business impact and risk. A mandatory certificate workflow should outweigh a low-impact dashboard preference. Record assumptions, version numbers, licensing prerequisites and the person responsible for accepting each result.
Compare deployment, data control and recovery
Ask every finalist to show a complete data-flow diagram, not just a console screenshot. Trace enrollment, policy delivery, application content, telemetry, administrator authentication, certificate issuance and remote actions. Mark every service, connector, database and outbound endpoint.

- Identify the geographic location and retention period for inventory, compliance, logs and support data.
- List firewall destinations, proxy requirements, inbound listeners and behavior when a device is offline.
- Define who installs platform updates, who tests them, and how failed upgrades are rolled back.
- Specify backup frequency, recovery-point objective, recovery-time objective and the recovery site or region.
- Document privileged access, audit logging, break-glass accounts and separation of duties.
For customer-operated systems, include server, database, certificate, load-balancer and monitoring capacity in the design. Omnissa’s Recommended Architecture 2410 documentation provides sizing guidance for deployments up to 5,000 and 25,000 devices, while cautioning that workload and transaction patterns affect sizing. Those bands are planning references, not a guarantee that every estate at those counts uses the same configuration.
Validate actual fleet coverage
Export an inventory of device models, OS versions, ownership modes and network locations before reading a supported-platform page. Match each inventory line to a documented management mode: fully managed, user-enrolled, agent-based, profile-based, server-managed, shared-device or specialty-device operation.
Omnissa lists Windows, Windows Server, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, ChromeOS and specialty endpoints on its product page. Treat that breadth as a starting point. Confirm exact OS releases, hardware support, enrollment restrictions, feature differences by platform and whether a separate component is required for servers or rugged devices.
Pilot enrollment coverage
- Select representative devices for every operating system, ownership type, hardware generation and network condition.
- Test zero-touch or automated enrollment, user-driven enrollment, re-enrollment after reset and transfer between users.
- Record time to enrollment, failure messages, required administrator actions and the resulting device identity.
- Test remote and intermittently connected devices. Measure how policies, applications and compliance state behave while offline and after reconnection.
- Verify retirement, wipe, selective wipe and recovery procedures for lost, replaced and reassigned devices.
Test end-to-end management and security workflows
Evaluate complete scenarios rather than isolated feature names. A platform that lists application delivery may still fail your packaging format, restart policy, dependency handling or rollback requirement.
Configuration and policy
- Apply baseline configuration, browser settings, encryption requirements and network profiles.
- Test policy precedence when a device belongs to multiple groups.
- Change a policy, observe propagation, and verify audit history and rollback.
- Create an exception for a documented business case and confirm expiry and review controls.
Application delivery
- Package a line-of-business application with dependencies, detection logic, user-context requirements and uninstall behavior.
- Test staged deployment, rings, bandwidth controls, restart prompts and rollback.
- Verify delivery to remote devices and devices with limited connectivity.
Operating-system and third-party updates
- Define update rings and maintenance windows for desktops, servers and mobile devices.
- Measure reporting latency from installation to compliance status.
- Test a failed update, a device that misses its window and an exception that must be remediated.
Compliance, security and remote support
Test conditional access inputs, device posture, encryption and threat-state signals with the identity and security systems already in use. Omnissa lists conditional access, compliance policies, device posture, per-app VPN and automated patch management among Workspace ONE UEM capabilities. Confirm which edition and integrations are required for each control.

Ivanti describes Neurons as a shared cloud-based platform for cloud, on-premises and hybrid environments and lists integrations including Microsoft, ServiceNow, Cisco, Wiz, Okta, Zscaler, CrowdStrike, Tenable and BMC. These statements establish a candidate for evaluation, not proof of equivalent coverage or suitability. Ask Ivanti to map the exact Neurons modules, endpoint types, data flows, deployment components and integration limits to your requirements before scoring it.
Plan operations and migration before selecting a platform
Estimate the people and processes needed after go-live, not only during implementation. Assign ownership for tenant or server administration, enrollment, application packaging, policy design, certificate management, reporting, help-desk escalation, vendor support and disaster recovery.
Coexistence and migration questions
- Which devices and policies remain in the existing system during each phase?
- Can a device be managed by both systems, and which system has authority for each workload?
- How are duplicate applications, conflicting policies and duplicate inventory records prevented?
- What is the rollback trigger, and can devices be returned to the previous management state?
- Which change windows are needed for user enrollment, server migration and certificate replacement?
Microsoft’s planning guidance describes a model in which some policies remain with on-premises Configuration Manager while others are managed through Intune. Include that coexistence complexity in staffing, testing and incident scenarios rather than counting it as a free migration benefit.

Use a like-for-like total-cost model
Compare the same device and user population, contract term, support level and feature scope. Include license tiers, included entitlements, implementation, migration labor, servers, databases, storage, certificates, network changes, administration, training, support, monitoring, backups and disaster recovery.
| Workspace ONE UEM tier | Displayed monthly rate per device | Displayed monthly rate per user |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile Essentials | $3.00 | $5.40 |
| Desktop Essentials | $4.00 | $7.20 |
| UEM Essentials | $5.25 | $9.45 |
| Enterprise Edition | $10.00 | $15.00 |
| Platinum Edition | $15.63 | $24.71 |
Omnissa’s product page displays these as USD monthly rates with 12 months prepaid and production-level support. They are example published rates, not a buyer-specific quote. Confirm current regional pricing, term, eligibility, included features and renewal conditions before using them in a business case.
Microsoft plan-based entitlements require checking against the organization’s current subscription and region. Do not infer that a feature is included because it appears in a product overview. Request a written entitlement map for every required workflow.
What the documented platform evidence supports
Microsoft Intune with Configuration Manager
Microsoft Learn describes Intune architecture with cloud and on-premises components and integrations. Configuration Manager manages desktops, Windows servers and laptops, including internet-connected devices through a cloud management gateway. Omnissa Workspace ONE UEM
Omnissa presents Workspace ONE UEM as a single-console platform covering Windows, Windows Server, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, ChromeOS and specialty endpoints. Its published capabilities include conditional access, compliance policies, device posture, per-app VPN and automated patch management.
Omnissa’s on-premises architecture documentation describes storing data on site and provides server topology and sizing guidance. Its Tech Zone architecture guide states: “New on-premises deployments of Workspace ONE UEM are by exception only and require the engagement of Professional Services.” Because that is a dated vendor architecture statement, obtain written confirmation of current availability, approval criteria, maintenance responsibilities and disaster-recovery requirements. The same guidance describes maintaining a second instance at another site when disaster recovery is required.
Ivanti Neurons
Ivanti’s public description positions Neurons as a shared cloud platform spanning cloud, on-premises and hybrid environments. Treat it as a shortlist candidate until the vendor maps your exact endpoint types, modules, data flows, integrations, licensing and support model. Require the same pilot evidence and acceptance criteria used for every other finalist.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Run a representative pilot
- Freeze requirements: approve the weighted matrix, mandatory controls, device sample, success thresholds and evidence definitions.
- Prepare test tenants or environments: use production-like identity, certificates, network paths, security tooling and service-desk integrations without exposing unnecessary production data.
- Enroll representative devices: include each operating system, ownership mode, hardware class, server type and connectivity condition in your inventory.
- Execute scripted workflows: run enrollment, configuration, application delivery, updates, compliance, remote actions, reporting, support and recovery scenarios.
- Test failure paths: disconnect devices, expire certificates, disable connectors, interrupt updates and create conflicting policies. Record recovery steps and elapsed time.
- Measure operations: capture administrator effort, help-desk steps, network use, reporting delay, policy conflicts and the skills required to maintain the service.
- Review evidence: label each result documented, demonstrated, roadmap or unverified. Reject unsupported assumptions from the score.
- Model rollout: produce migration waves, coexistence rules, rollback triggers, staffing needs, training and a multi-year TCO.
Common comparison mistakes and how to avoid them
- Choosing by feature count: replace checkbox scoring with workflow acceptance tests.
- Assuming “on-premises” means generally available: confirm approval, services, topology and support conditions for a new deployment.
- Ignoring offline devices: test missed check-ins, delayed compliance and recovery after reconnection.
- Comparing different license scopes: normalize user/device counts, tiers, support and included security features.
- Hiding coexistence costs: budget duplicate administration, policy ownership, connectors and training during migration.
- Trusting a demo as proof: require repeatable pilot evidence on your hardware, applications, identity and network.
- Leaving recovery until the end: test backup, restore, secondary-site operation and administrator access before signing.
Decision rule
Select the platform that meets mandatory requirements with the strongest verified evidence and an operating model your team can sustain. If two finalists pass the same acceptance tests, use data-control requirements, migration risk, recovery design and normalized multi-year cost to break the tie. Treat vendor claims as inputs to validation, not as independent comparative results.
