To communicate well in VALORANT, give teammates short, actionable information through the channel that fits the moment: use team voice for details, party voice for your premade group, and pings for quick visual alerts or when you do not want to speak. Set up your audio and ping bindings before a match, then keep calls focused on the play.
Choose the right communication channel
| Channel | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Team voice | Spoken information the whole team needs, such as an enemy location or a retake plan. | Requires a working microphone and reaches teammates beyond your premade group. |
| Party voice | Coordinating with the players in your premade party. | Does not serve as a call to the entire team. |
| Pings | A quick visual cue tied to what you are looking at, without a spoken callout. | Fast and nonverbal, but cannot convey every detail voice can. |
Riot describes enemy-location calls, utility coordination, and retake planning as useful communication. Voice is suited to details; a ping can be the quicker choice when the location or object itself is the important information. You can also combine them: ping the relevant area, then add only the spoken detail teammates need.

Set up team and party voice
- Open Settings > Audio > Voice Chat.
- Select the microphone you intend to use for input and the correct headset or speakers for output.
- Confirm that the voice channels you want are enabled, then check the displayed push-to-talk bindings.
- Run the in-game loopback test to check that your microphone is being picked up and returned through your selected output.
Riot’s support guide lists V for team voice and U for party voice as defaults. Those are not guaranteed to match your current setup: keybinds can be changed, so rely on the labels in your own settings. The guide says team voice uses push-to-talk; party voice can use push-to-talk or automatic activation.

- Comfort is King: Comfort’s in the Cloud III’s DNA. Built for gamers who can’t have an uncomfortable headset ruin the flow of their full-combo, disrupt their speedrun, or knocking them out of the zone.
- Audio Tuned for Your Entertainment: Angled 53mm drivers have been tuned by HyperX audio engineers to provide the optimal listening experience that accents the dynamic sounds of gaming.
- Upgraded Microphone for Clarity and Accuracy: Captures high-quality audio for clear voice chat and calls. The mic is noise-cancelling and features a built-in mesh filter to omit disruptive sounds and LED mic mute indicator lets you know when you’re muted.
- Durability, for the Toughest of Battles: The headset is flexible and features an aluminum frame so it’s resilient against travel, accidents, mishaps, and your ‘level-headed’ reactions to losses and defeat screens.
Use a ping when a quick visual signal is enough, such as drawing attention to a location or object. If teammates need context beyond that cue, add a concise voice call when you can. Exact available controls may change as the game is updated; check the in-game menu for current labels and options.
Make callouts short and actionable
Put the most immediately useful detail first, then add only what helps teammates act. For example, call an enemy location before explaining a plan, or name the utility you are coordinating before adding timing or follow-up. These are practical communication habits, not a guaranteed formula for match results.

- Utility coordination: Say what you are coordinating and what teammates need to do in response.
- Retakes: Share the immediate plan and any detail needed to carry it out.
Riot’s Playing with Respect article describes these as useful kinds of calls. It does not establish a specific improvement in win rate from communication, so treat clear comms as a coordination tool—not a promise of a particular outcome.
Why teammates may not hear you
Start with the in-game loopback test, then work outward. This order helps distinguish an input or output problem from a channel, keybind, or push-to-talk issue.

- If loopback works, check the channel. Make sure you are using the intended team or party voice channel and that the channel is enabled.
- Check push-to-talk behavior and the binding. Confirm you are pressing the displayed key for the channel you want. If another voice application uses the same push-to-talk key, change one of the bindings to avoid conflicts.
- On Windows, check system permissions and sound settings. Riot’s support guide also lists Windows-specific sound and microphone privacy checks; these steps apply to Windows and should not be assumed to describe other platforms.
If voice still does not work, use pings while you continue troubleshooting. A headset with an integrated microphone is a convenient option if your current equipment does not work, but voice equipment is not required to use pings.

Keep feedback about the play rather than the person. Riot’s Playing with Respect article puts it this way: “A useful rule of thumb is to keep it about the game, not the person.” Repeated disruptive noise and personal abuse make it harder for teammates to focus.

Listed consequences include communication restrictions, teamplay restrictions, and game bans; penalty durations can vary by region.
