Find a creator whose viewers could genuinely enjoy your work, offer something concrete, agree on how the video will be published and promoted, then give new viewers a clear next video to watch. Collaboration can introduce audiences to each other, but it does not guarantee more views or subscribers.
Find a creator whose audience has a reason to watch you
Start with channels your own viewers already watch. In YouTube Studio, open Analytics and review the Audience reports, including Channels that your audience watches and What your audience watches, when those reports are available. YouTube says these reports can help identify collaboration opportunities; they are leads, not proof that a particular partnership will work. YouTube Analytics: Understand your audience.

Then assess whether the crossover makes sense in both directions. YouTube’s collaboration guidance suggests considering audience alignment, shared values, complementary skills and resources, and whether one creator’s viewers might enjoy the other creator’s work. Creators do not have to make identical content: a contrast can be compelling if the joint idea gives both audiences a clear reason to watch. YouTube collaboration tips.
- Audience fit: Is there a plausible topic or interest connecting the two communities?
- Values and working style: Do you agree on tone, standards, deadlines, and how you treat viewers?
- Complementary strengths: Can each person bring distinct expertise, production resources, a location, or access to people?
- A strong shared idea: Would the video still be worthwhile to viewers who do not know either creator?
- Fair exchange: Can each creator contribute and benefit in a way that feels balanced?
- Follow-through: Can both channels promote the work and offer relevant next videos afterward?
Subscriber count alone is a poor filter. A smaller creator with a relevant audience, a useful skill, or a distinctive point of view may be a better fit than a larger channel with little overlap. YouTube’s own advice highlights aligned audiences, growth potential, and creator personality among the factors to consider. YouTube collaboration tips.

Pitch one specific collaboration idea
Before contacting someone, prepare a brief concept rather than asking vaguely to “collab.” Use the contact method the creator prefers; it may be listed on the channel’s About page. Make the note personal, concise, and easy to assess.
- Open with a specific reason: Mention a video, series, or idea of theirs that genuinely connects to your proposal.
- Give context: Briefly explain your channel, audience, or a relevant project without turning the message into a generic biography.
- Describe the video: State the format, central idea, and a possible schedule or timing.
- Make the exchange clear: Say what you would contribute and what you are asking the other creator to do.
- Offer flexibility: Invite them to reshape the format or suggest an alternative that suits their audience.
For example, a cooking channel might propose a video in which each creator develops a recipe around the other person’s specialty. One could film the main episode while the other contributes a complementary recipe or a short follow-up for their own channel. The point is not the exact format; it is that both sides can see their role and the viewer benefit.
YouTube’s guidance gives examples of creators exchanging resources such as raw footage or making a complementary episode, while remaining open to a different format. A personal, well-defined proposal is not a guarantee of a reply; it simply makes the idea and its mutual value easier to understand. YouTube collaboration tips.

Agree on ownership, deliverables, and access before filming
Write down the practical terms before production, even for an informal collaboration. Decide which channel will publish each video, who is responsible for editing and approvals, what each creator will deliver, the release timing, and how each channel will promote the work. If payment, expenses, or sponsorship are involved, agree on those terms separately and explicitly.
YouTube’s current collaboration feature does not automatically divide earnings: the channel that posts the video receives the revenue earned from it. Settle any compensation or revenue arrangement directly with your collaborator in advance. YouTube collaboration tips.
A collaborator label does not require you to share account credentials. If a collaborator needs access to help manage or produce channel content, use YouTube channel permissions to assign an appropriate role rather than sharing Google Account sign-in details. YouTube notes that permissions do not cover every part of the service, so confirm that the access level supports the work you need. YouTube channel permissions.

Use YouTube’s collaborator feature where it fits
YouTube Help currently describes a feature that lets eligible creators invite up to 10 collaborators to long-form videos and Shorts, and to archived live streams—not active live streams. When a collaborator accepts, their name and a subscribe button are shown on the video. The feature is intended to encourage discovery; YouTube says it aims to recommend the video to audiences of both the collaborators and the publishing channel, but search or recommendation changes may not appear immediately. It is not a promise of reach. Check the current Help page for availability and workflow details, since platform features can change. YouTube collaboration tips.
The feature label and subscribe button complement—not replace—good planning. Agree which channel publishes, whether each creator will make a separate or complementary video, and how you will direct viewers between them.
Plan cross-promotion before the shoot
Decide how each creator’s contribution will be discoverable before you record. YouTube recommends approaches such as publishing different videos on both channels when appropriate, using cards and mentions, verbally directing viewers to the other video, and naming the other channel in titles or descriptions. Choose only the tactics that make sense for the format and the actual videos you publish. YouTube collaboration tips.

- Use cards and mentions where relevant and available.
- Name the other creator in the title or description when it helps viewers understand the collaboration.
- Make the cross-promotion reciprocal and specific rather than relying on a vague mention.
Consider making the videos complementary instead of identical: one creator can lead with the main story while the other provides a different perspective, demonstration, or follow-up. That gives viewers a reason to visit both channels.

Measure more than subscriber gain
Use YouTube Analytics to judge whether the collaboration reached the right people and gave them a useful next step. Review discovery, engagement, audience, and video performance in context. Compare the collaboration with similar videos on your channel, then look beyond the initial view or subscriber count: did new viewers watch the intended follow-up, engage, or return? YouTube’s guidance describes using analytics to compare content and understand new viewers and audience patterns. YouTube Analytics; Understand new, casual, and regular viewers.
Interpret results cautiously. One collaboration cannot establish that a particular format will reliably grow your channel. Use what you learn about audience response to decide whether to repeat the partnership, adjust the concept, or try a different creator fit.
Or let it run in the cloud
