To remove a passkey saved on a Windows 11 PC, open Settings > Accounts > Passkeys, find the device-bound passkey, and select Delete passkey beside its name. That removes the copy stored on this computer. It does not automatically remove copies held by a Microsoft account, a work or school account, or a synced password manager, so the rest of this guide explains how to check each location.
Delete a passkey saved on this Windows 11 PC
Microsoft’s support guidance says the Passkeys page lets you view and delete passkeys saved locally on the device. Use this path first if the passkey was created on this computer.

- Open Settings on the Windows 11 device.
- Select Accounts, then select Passkeys.
- Find the device-bound passkey in the list.
- Select Delete passkey beside its name.
If the entry is missing, the passkey was probably not saved on this device. Check the other locations below before assuming it is gone.
Why a passkey is still listed after you deleted it
A passkey has two halves. The private key is kept securely on the device or with a provider, and the matching public key is registered with the website or account. Deleting one half does not change the other. That is why a passkey can remain visible after a local deletion: the copy you removed was only one of several places it may exist.

| Where the copy lives | What deleting in Windows does | Where to remove the rest |
|---|---|---|
| Windows device (saved locally on this PC) | Removes this device’s copy through Settings > Accounts > Passkeys | Not applicable |
| Personal Microsoft account sign-in methods | Does not remove the account-level registration | Microsoft account Advanced Security Options dashboard |
| Work or school account | Does not remove the organization’s registration | mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and the storage location, such as Windows Hello Passkeys |
| Synced credential manager (for example, Microsoft Password Manager or another provider) | Does not remove the synced copy | The provider’s own interface or service |
Whether a copy exists in each location depends on where the passkey was created and saved. Check that location first, then work through the others.
Remove a personal Microsoft account passkey
If the passkey is used to sign in to a personal Microsoft account and should also come off that account, remove it from the account’s security settings as well.

- Sign in to the Microsoft account Advanced Security Options dashboard.
- Expand the passkey entry you want to remove.
- Select Remove.
Before you remove a sign-in method that you may still need, add new sign-in information first. Microsoft advises this because removing a passkey from a Microsoft account ends its ability to sign in to that account.

Avoid removing every security item at once. Microsoft warns that removing all security information puts the account into a 30-day restricted state, during which changes to security settings or billing information are limited. This warning applies to removing all security information. It does not describe ordinary deletion of one saved passkey.

Remove a work or school account passkey
Passkeys tied to a work or school account usually need two actions.
- Organization security page: Sign in and open mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info to review and remove the sign-in method.
- Storage location: Remove the saved copy from where it was stored, such as Windows Hello Passkeys.
An organization administrator can restrict these options. If the controls are missing or greyed out, the limit is likely set by IT policy, and you will need to ask your administrator to make the change.

Remove a passkey stored in a synced credential manager
If the passkey was saved in a synced credential manager, such as Microsoft Password Manager or a third-party provider, manage it inside that provider. Removing the Windows-local copy does not confirm that the synced copy has been removed, so check the provider’s own list after you finish on the PC.

Windows Credential Manager documents Web Credentials and Windows Credentials, but Microsoft’s passkey guidance directs users to Settings > Accounts > Passkeys. Use the Passkeys page for passkey deletion. Credential Manager entries are a different kind of saved credential.
Notes on availability
Feature availability can vary by Windows build, device, and organization policy. If the Passkeys page does not appear on your PC, check for Windows updates and confirm with your administrator if the device is managed.
The steps above reflect Microsoft Support guidance as checked in early October 2026. Microsoft’s support pages did not show publication dates in the material reviewed, so check the current page if the menu labels differ.
