To reduce it safely, review Device care storage, remove files you recognize, and clear cache for individual apps before considering the more consequential Clear data option.
What is Other storage on your Galaxy phone?
“Other” is a storage category, not a single folder. It can include app data, system files, cached data and temporary files, so its contents are not all disposable. Samsung states: “The data contained in the ‘Other’ storage category cannot be deleted directly from your device.” You can reduce some of the space it accounts for by managing individual apps and files, but there is no safe one-tap delete for the entire category. Review Device care storage and remove files you recognize
Start with the phone’s built-in storage review. Depending on the software version, Device care may be called Battery and device care.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Device care or Battery and device care, then Storage.
- Review the categories and any cleanup suggestions. Select only files you recognize and want to remove.
- Check Trash before emptying it. Emptying Trash permanently removes its contents.
Samsung’s cleanup options and category names vary across devices and software versions. Its Device care guide describes the feature and notes that availability can vary by model and country. Samsung also outlines storage review and file removal in its low-storage troubleshooting guide.
Clear app cache before app data
App-related files can contribute to the space shown under Other. Clear cache for a specific app as a lower-impact first step; cache consists of temporary files, though an app may rebuild them later.

- Open Settings and tap Apps.
- Select the app you want to review, then tap Storage.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Recheck storage if needed. Repeat only for apps whose storage you have reason to address.
Clear data is a different, more consequential action. It can remove app-specific content or settings and may require you to configure or sign in to the app again. Samsung also warns that deleting data from an app you use often may make it run more slowly. Check what the app stores locally before using Clear data; do not treat it as a routine cache-clearing step. See Samsung’s instructions on clearing app cache and data.
Understand the Apps and Other storage display
On some Galaxy phones, the storage breakdown may combine Apps and Other. Samsung says an information control beside Apps can change how the breakdown is displayed on supported software. If you see that control, follow the on-screen explanation for your model rather than assuming the same option is available on every Galaxy phone.

Move eligible files to a microSD card, if supported
On models with a microSD card slot, moving eligible photos, videos or other files to removable storage can free internal space. It does not directly remove app or system data counted under Other.
- Check your exact Galaxy model’s specifications to confirm it supports a microSD card and note any capacity limits.
- Insert a compatible card, then open My Files and select the eligible files you want to move.
- Choose the card as the destination and confirm the files are accessible there before deleting any remaining originals.
Not every Galaxy phone supports removable storage, and the available transfer steps depend on the model. Samsung’s microSD guide covers compatible phones and file transfers.

Compare the options before you delete

If Other is still large
Do not delete unfamiliar folders or system files in an attempt to force the number down. Instead, inspect app storage to identify which apps use space, and use the built-in controls selectively. If the category remains unusually large and you cannot identify its contents, consult Samsung support with your exact model and software version; the available menus and explanations are device-specific.
