“Mailbox” can mean email, text messages, or carrier voicemail on a Samsung Galaxy—and each is cleared in a different place. Choose the matching section below before deleting anything. Clearing phone storage is a separate task and will not increase your carrier’s voicemail capacity.

Clear email in Samsung Email
Delete selected messages
- Open Samsung Email and check that the selected account and folder are the ones you intend to clean up.
- Select one or more messages. Samsung’s Galaxy guidance describes selecting multiple emails to delete or archive; the controls and labels can differ by device, app version, and region.
- Choose Delete. If you want to keep messages, use Archive instead where available.
- Check the account’s Trash or Bin if you need to remove deleted items. For an account-specific or server-side deletion, verify the result in your provider’s webmail or consult its help; deletion behavior can depend on the account configuration.
For a crowded Trash folder, a Samsung Community accepted reply suggests using Edit > Select All > Delete. This is a community-reported option, not a universal official Samsung path, and it may differ in your version. Confirm what will be removed before proceeding.

If older email is missing
Messages that are not visible in the app are not necessarily deleted. Samsung’s US guidance recommends checking the Email sync period, searching for the message, or scrolling to load older mail. Sync settings and available controls can vary by account and app version.

Clear SMS or MMS in Samsung Messages
- Open Samsung Messages and select the conversation or message you want to remove. Samsung’s US guide also describes selecting all messages.
- Tap Delete and confirm Move to Trash if prompted.
Samsung states: “The message will remain in the Trash for 30 days.” To restore a deleted message during that period, open More options > Trash, select it, and tap Restore. Screens and labels can vary by model, carrier, and software version. Samsung also documents a setting to disable Trash; consider that this reduces the opportunity to recover deleted messages before changing it. Clear a full voicemail mailbox
Voicemail is commonly managed by the mobile carrier, not by Samsung Email or the phone’s general storage controls. Use your carrier’s voicemail access instructions to review and delete messages, including saved or archived messages if that option is available. A Samsung Community report describes a full-mailbox warning being resolved after older archived voicemail was deleted, but that is an anecdote—not a universal carrier procedure.
If callers still hear “mailbox full” after you delete messages, contact your carrier and ask it to check voicemail capacity, provisioning, and its deletion or retention rules. Do not assume a particular key sequence or quota: those depend on your carrier and plan.

Free up storage on the Samsung phone separately
Low device storage and a full carrier voicemail box are different problems. To make room on the phone, review large apps, photos, and other files using Samsung’s storage guidance. This cleanup does not raise a carrier’s voicemail limit.
Samsung’s storage guide also describes an automatic deletion setting for older messages when the device reaches a threshold of 200 text messages or 20 multimedia messages. That figure is the threshold Samsung gives for the setting, not a universal device limit. Check the setting and its effect on your message history before enabling it. Also confirm which Trash is involved: deleted items in supported Samsung apps may remain there before permanent removal. Samsung: Free up storage space on your Samsung phone or tablet.
