Before you start: check your vacuum’s instructions
Consult the owner’s manual for the brush-roll removal mechanism, which parts may be rinsed, and how to reassemble them. The procedures in Tineco’s maintenance instructions and Dyson’s care guidance apply to the products they cover, not to every cordless vacuum.

How to clean the brush roll
- Remove the roller only as your model’s manual directs. Some Dyson cleaner heads, for example, use a coin or flathead screwdriver to open the brush cover; that mechanism is not universal.
- Carefully remove wrapped hair, fibers, and loose debris. Avoid damaging the bristles, soft roller, belt, or seals. A suitable brush-cleaning tool can help, but use one only if the manufacturer’s instructions allow it.
- Check the brush window and suction opening for accumulated debris, and clear them using the method the manual permits.
- Reinstall the roller in the specified orientation, align it correctly, and secure its cover or lock before operating the vacuum.
Tineco’s illustrated maintenance procedure shows removing the roller, cleaning the brush window and suction mouth, clearing wrapped debris with a hair-cleaning tool, and then aligning the roller and securing its cover. Treat this as an example for the relevant Tineco models, not a universal sequence.
How to clean the filter safely
Wash a filter only if the instructions for your exact vacuum say it is washable. Dyson recommends washing its cordless vacuum filters at least once a month. For the Dyson models covered by its guidance, remove the filter, tap off loose dust, rinse and gently rub it by hand without detergent, then shake out excess water. Dyson’s filter-care instructions specify at least 24 hours of drying in a well-ventilated area.

Tineco’s maintenance illustrations show washing the HEPA filter under running water if necessary and drying it completely before reinstalling; the illustration indicates 24 hours. Follow the manual for your model rather than assuming another vacuum’s filter can be washed.
Dry completely before reassembly
Do not put a wet filter back into the vacuum or run the machine with one installed. Dyson warns: “Your filter(s) must be completely dry before you put it back into the machine, or it could damage the motor.” Dyson also says not to use a tumble dryer, microwave, or naked flame to dry the filter. Allow the full manufacturer-specified drying time and check that the filter is dry throughout before reinstalling it.

Do not assume that every roller, end cap, or filter is washable. Dyson’s guidance, for example, says not to wash certain brush-bar end caps. Rinse a roller only when instructions for the exact cleaner head say it is washable.
How often to clean the brush roll and filter
Dyson recommends washing its cordless vacuum filters at least once a month. That is a Dyson recommendation, not a schedule for all brands. The available manufacturer instructions do not establish a cross-brand brush-roll interval; check and clear visible hair or debris buildup, and use your vacuum’s manual for its recommended maintenance schedule.

Reassemble and check the vacuum
Make sure every removable part is seated and locked as the manual directs before switching the vacuum on. If suction remains poor, the machine pulses, or a warning persists, use the manufacturer’s troubleshooting instructions for your exact model rather than continuing to take it apart. Dyson’s guidance connects filter buildup with reduced performance or pulsing on its equipment; that diagnosis should not be assumed for every vacuum.
