After each cleaning session, turn off your BISSELL Little Green, empty and rinse the dirty-water tank, and clear debris from the tool if spray or suction has weakened. Little Green models differ, so check the model label and the manual for your exact machine before using model-specific fill amounts, priming times, or troubleshooting steps.
Find your exact Little Green model first
Look for the model label on the lower back or bottom of the machine, or behind the tanks. Use that model number to find the matching manual or BISSELL support page. Instructions for a corded Little Green and a Little Green Cordless are not interchangeable.

Prepare and use the cleaner correctly
Vacuum loose debris before wet cleaning
Pick up loose solids with a dry vacuum before using the Little Green. This helps keep debris from entering the tool and machine.

Use the fill lines and portable carpet-cleaner formula specified for your model. BISSELL lists a maximum warm-water temperature of 140°F (60°C) for the cited Little Green and Little Green Cordless instructions. For the cited cordless family only, the guide specifies 28 oz of water plus 4 oz of formula for a large area, or 14 oz of water plus 2 oz of formula for a small area. Do not apply those fill amounts to another model.

BISSELL identifies portable carpet-cleaner formula as compatible with the cited cordless models. Check both the formula label and your machine’s instructions; do not assume a household cleaner is suitable. BISSELL warns that water that is too hot can deform the clean-water tank and affect machine performance.
Check upholstery labels before cleaning furniture
For the cited cordless models, BISSELL says upholstery marked W or WS may be cleaned with the machine. Do not proceed on fabric marked S with a slash or “Dry Clean Only.” If the label is missing or unclear, ask the furniture dealer before applying water or cleaning solution.

Spray, scrub, then extract slowly
- Spray the stain with the tool.
- Release the trigger and gently scrub the area.
- Tilt the tool so its suction channel touches the surface, then move it slowly backward to extract the liquid.
If the pump needs priming, follow the timing for your model family: the cited corded instructions allow up to 30 seconds, while the cited cordless guide says to hold the trigger for 10 seconds. These are separate model-specific directions, not alternate timings to try indiscriminately.

Clean the machine after use
Empty and rinse the dirty-water tank
- Turn the machine off when you finish.
- Remove the dirty-water tank and empty it after cleaning, or sooner if it reaches its marked full or maximum line.
- Rinse the tank to remove loose debris.
- For the cited cordless models, rinse the tank lid as well, reassemble it without a gap, and seat the tank fully.
A full dirty-water tank can reduce suction. BISSELL also notes on its corded setup page that a full tank may change the machine’s sound.

Clear the tool if spray is weak or absent
For covered corded models, switch the machine off before removing the tool nozzle. Rinse the nozzle and clear debris from the tool’s spray port and nozzle. If the problem continues, consult the troubleshooting instructions for the exact model rather than forcing parts or disassembling the machine.
Check the airflow path if suction is weak
For covered cordless models, check that the dirty-water tank is not full, then inspect the area beneath the tank, the tank float, and the tool for debris. Reassemble the tank and seat it fully before trying again.

Prevent leaks and put the machine away
For the covered cordless models, keep the dirty-water tank at or below MAX, tighten the clean-tank cap without cross-threading it, and make sure tank lids and tanks are seated fully. After use, BISSELL advises holding the hose up for a few seconds while the machine is still on so residual water can drain into the dirty tank. If a tank or hose is cracked or leaking, use BISSELL’s parts lookup for the exact model to identify a compatible replacement.
