Cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting are different
Cleaning removes dirt and germs from a surface. Sanitizing reduces germs to levels considered safe under public-health standards, while disinfecting kills remaining germs. CDC says that, in most situations, cleaning with soap and water can remove most germs from surfaces; that is general surface guidance, not a toy-specific efficacy test. Disinfection at home is generally unnecessary unless someone is sick or recently visited while sick, and it may be appropriate when someone in the household is at higher risk. How to clean LEGO bricks and pieces
Hand-wash ordinary loose pieces
LEGO recommends hand-cleaning pieces with water no hotter than 104°F / 40°C and a soft cloth or sponge. You may add mild detergent, then rinse the pieces thoroughly with clear water. The 104°F / 40°C limit is LEGO’s recommendation for cleaning its bricks and pieces, not a general temperature rule for other toys. See LEGO’s cleaning instructions.

Keep heat and machines away
Do not put LEGO pieces in a washing machine or dishwasher, or dry them in an oven, microwave, or hair dryer. Air-dry them away from direct sunlight: heat can change their shape. Make sure pieces are fully dry before putting them away.

Separate electronic and sensitive elements
Set aside electronic components and other sensitive pieces containing metal rather than washing them with loose bricks. LEGO advises cleaning these with a cloth moistened with water and mild detergent without perfume or oil. Its general cleaning guidance does not establish a universal disinfectant method for every print, sticker, or older part, so do not assume bleach or alcohol is safe for all LEGO pieces.
How to clean a Nerf blaster
Find the instructions for the exact model
Blasters can differ in construction, and some have battery compartments, lights, or other electronics. Look up the instructions for the specific model through Hasbro’s instruction page. The page for the Vortex Lumitron does not establish one cleaning procedure that applies to every Nerf blaster. CDC’s general advice for electronics is to follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.

Avoid soaking or spraying openings
Do not submerge a blaster or spray liquid into openings unless the instructions for that exact model explicitly allow it. A method that is suitable for loose plastic bricks may damage a blaster’s electronics or internal parts. Use only the cleaning method and products supported by its own manual; do not infer that a disinfectant is compatible with its finish or components.

Start with the toy’s label or manufacturer instructions. If those are unavailable, CDC guidance describes cleaning suitable hard surfaces with soap and water or a cleaner appropriate for the surface. Remove visible dirt before using a sanitizer or disinfectant, since soil can interfere with chemical effectiveness.

If disinfection is warranted, choose a product whose label supports both the surface and intended use. Follow its directions for dilution, ventilation, protective equipment, and how long the surface must stay wet. Never mix cleaning chemicals. Check the sewn-in care label and the manufacturer’s directions. CDC advises laundering soft toys when possible according to those instructions, using the warmest setting the toy can tolerate, and drying it completely. Set aside toys with electronics or delicate trims that cannot be laundered and follow their specific care directions.

Childcare settings may have different requirements from a household. CDC guidance for early care and education settings distinguishes cleaning from sanitizing and says toys and play surfaces used by infants or children may need sanitizing with a method suitable for the item. See CDC guidance for early care and education settings; do not treat institutional protocols as a routine requirement for every home.

Choose the method by material and situation
