Turn the monitor off, let it cool, and start with a clean, soft microfiber cloth used dry. For a smudge that remains, lightly dampen a corner of the cloth with distilled or purified water, wipe gently, then dry the area with a clean section. Never spray liquid onto the screen, and check your exact monitor’s manual before using any chemical cleaner.
What you need
- A clean, soft microfiber cloth with no grit or debris trapped in it.
- Distilled or purified water, only if dry wiping does not remove a mark.
A dirty cloth can drag particles across the surface. Use a fresh, clean part of the cloth for wiping and drying.

How to clean the screen
- Turn the monitor off and let it cool. If the maker’s instructions advise it, disconnect the power and cables before cleaning. Samsung’s monitor instructions recommend turning off the monitor and computer, disconnecting cables, and waiting for the monitor to cool.
- Remove loose dust with a dry cloth. Gently wipe with the microfiber cloth, using very light pressure.
- Dampen the cloth only if needed. For a fingerprint or oily mark that remains, put a small amount of distilled or purified water on one corner of the cloth. The cloth should be lightly damp, not wet. Do not spray the panel.
- Wipe gently, then dry. Use the dampened part on the mark without pressing hard. Follow with a clean, dry part of the cloth to remove moisture or streaking.
- Wait until the screen is fully dry. Let it air dry completely before reconnecting power or turning the monitor on.
What not to use
- Paper towels, rough towels, or abrasive pads: They can scratch the display surface.
- Spray bottles aimed at the screen: Liquid can run toward the panel’s edges. Apply any water to the cloth instead.
- Household glass cleaners, ammonia, solvents, or alcohol: Do not use them unless the official manual for your exact monitor explicitly permits the product.
- Heavy pressure: A stubborn mark is not a reason to scrub; use only a lightly dampened cloth and gentle strokes.
Why chemical-cleaner advice depends on the model
Manufacturer guidance is not consistent about alcohol. General ASUS and Samsung monitor instructions warn against alcohol, while some QD-OLED-specific claims surfaced in search results could not be verified against a primary Samsung Display source. That is not enough to conclude that alcohol is safe for every QD-OLED screen. Follow the cleaning instructions for your monitor’s exact model and surface; if its manual does not explicitly approve a chemical, stick to dry microfiber or the lightly dampened-water method above.

ASUS’s FAQ, last updated March 23, 2026, covers LCD and OLED panel cleaning and cautions against alcohol- and ammonia-based cleaners. Samsung Canada’s monitor instructions, last updated May 24, 2025, recommend microfiber and distilled or still water while warning against direct spraying and several household substances. ROG’s OLED guide also advises a gentle approach for dust and oily marks. These sources agree on microfiber, light pressure, and avoiding direct sprays; they do not establish one chemical cleaner as suitable for every QD-OLED monitor.
