Unplug the air fryer before cleaning. On the AF100 Series, remove the basket and crisper plate, soak stuck residue in warm, soapy water, wipe the main unit with a damp cloth, brush food residue from the heating element, and dry every cleaned part before reassembly. Never immerse the main unit or put it in a dishwasher.

What you need before you start
Gather only what the cleaning task calls for: a soft or damp cloth for the exterior, warm water with dish soap for the removable parts, a towel or drying space, and a small cleaning brush for the heating element. A general soft cleaning brush is an optional choice for that last step; the AF100 guide specifies a cleaning brush but does not specify a brand, material, size, or model.
- Unplug the air fryer from the outlet.
- Wait until the appliance and removable parts are safe to handle.
- Separate the basket, crisper plate, and any other removable accessories.
- Keep all water and soapy solution away from the main unit, controls, cord, and plug.
The AF100 guide states that “The unit should be cleaned thoroughly after every use.” Cleaning promptly prevents a thin film of oil and food from hardening into the stuck-on grease that takes longer to remove.

Step-by-step: clean the air fryer safely
1. Unplug the appliance
Disconnect the plug before removing the basket or touching any area inside the cooking chamber. This is the first step in the AF100 cleaning procedure, not an optional precaution. Leave the appliance disconnected throughout cleaning and drying.
2. Remove the basket and crisper plate
Take out the removable cooking parts so you can clean their surfaces directly. Separate the crisper plate from the basket if your model uses a separate plate. Set the main unit on a dry work surface where it will not be splashed.
3. Loosen stuck-on grease with a warm, soapy soak
For food or grease stuck to the AF100 basket or crisper plate, place the affected part in warm, soapy water and let it soak. The guide does not prescribe a particular soaking time, so judge progress by whether the residue has softened enough to wash away without force. Keep this step limited to the removable part: never soak the air fryer body, control panel, cord, or plug.

After soaking, wash the loosened residue from the part. If a patch remains, repeat the same warm, soapy soak rather than transferring the method to the main unit or introducing an unapproved chemical. Work methodically around the cooking surface, corners, and openings where grease commonly remains.
4. Decide whether to use a dishwasher
The AF100 Series guide says the basket, crisper plate, and accessories can be washed in a dishwasher. That statement applies to the parts covered by that guide. It does not establish that every Ninja air fryer, basket, crisper plate, or accessory is dishwasher-safe.

If you own a different series, pause here and read its owner’s guide. Until that guide confirms dishwasher use for the specific part, wash it by hand with warm, soapy water instead. The main unit is never a dishwasher item under the AF100 instructions.
5. Wipe the main unit and control panel
Use a damp cloth on the exterior and control panel. The cloth should be damp, not dripping, so liquid does not run into seams, controls, vents, or electrical areas. The AF100 guide expressly prohibits immersing the main unit in water or another liquid and prohibits cleaning it in a dishwasher.

6. Brush residue from the heating element
With the appliance unplugged, use a cleaning brush to remove food residue from the heating element, as directed by the AF100 guide. A small, soft cleaning brush is a defensible optional tool because the guide specifically calls for a cleaning brush; it does not endorse a particular brand or claim that one brush works for every Ninja series.
Brush carefully and avoid turning this step into a liquid-cleaning operation. The guide gives a brush instruction, not permission to spray, pour, or immerse the heating area. If you are unsure how the heating element is exposed on your model, follow that model’s guide rather than applying the AF100 layout to it.

7. Dry the parts completely
After washing, air-dry or towel-dry the basket, crisper plate, and cleaned accessories. Dry all surfaces before putting the parts back into the air fryer. Keeping the body out of water remains essential while the removable parts dry; drying the parts does not make it safe to rinse the main unit.

8. Reassemble only after cleaning is complete
Once the removable parts are dry, return them to the appliance according to the arrangement specified for your model. If your model’s guide differs from the AF100 instructions, use the model-specific guidance. Cleaning after every use, as recommended in the AF100 guide, reduces the amount of residue that needs a long soak later.
How to remove different kinds of stuck-on grease
Grease on the basket
Remove the basket, place it in warm, soapy water, and let it soak. Concentrate on the base, sides, corners, and any perforations where food residue has dried. Wash after the residue softens, then air-dry or towel-dry the basket. If one pass does not clear a stubborn area, repeat the warm, soapy soak.
Grease on the crisper plate
Treat the crisper plate the same way: remove it, soak it in warm, soapy water, wash the loosened residue, and dry it. Give extra attention to the underside and openings, where a film can be easy to miss. Do not transfer the plate-soaking method to the main unit.
Residue near the heating element
Use the cleaning brush specified by the AF100 guide. Keep the appliance unplugged, and use the brush to lift food residue from the element area. The guide does not provide a brush specification or a liquid-cleaning method, so do not infer that spraying or soaking the heating area is acceptable.

Grease on the exterior or controls
Wipe the main unit and control panel with a damp cloth. Use controlled wiping rather than running water over the body. The main unit must not be immersed and must not go into a dishwasher.
Dishwasher decisions when you own another Ninja model
The title “Ninja air fryer” covers multiple series and configurations. The AF100 instructions are useful when you have an AF100 Series appliance, but they are not a universal care chart.

Keep the exact model number and the specific part together when checking instructions. A basket may be approved for one series while a visually similar part belongs to another. The relevant question is not whether a part looks removable; it is whether the guide for your model identifies that part as dishwasher-safe.
What not to do
- Do not clean while the appliance is plugged in.
- Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
- Do not put the main unit in a dishwasher.
- Do not soak the control panel, cord, plug, or electrical body.
- Do not treat AF100 dishwasher instructions as proof that every Ninja model has dishwasher-safe removable parts.
- Do not use a liquid method on the heating element when the guide only directs you to use a cleaning brush.
- Do not reassemble wet removable parts; air-dry or towel-dry them first.
Troubleshooting common cleaning problems
The grease is still stuck after washing
Return the basket or crisper plate to warm, soapy water and let it soak again. The AF100 guide establishes soaking as the method for stuck residue; it does not give a fixed time, so continue only until the residue loosens enough to wash away. Do not move the part into an unapproved chemical treatment or apply the soaking method to the main unit.

Do not guess from the part’s appearance or from another Ninja model. Check the owner’s guide for the exact air fryer and the exact removable part. If the guide does not confirm dishwasher use, hand-wash in warm, soapy water and dry the part.

You accidentally brought water near the main unit
Stop cleaning that area with liquid. The AF100 guide requires the main unit to be wiped with a damp cloth, not immersed or dishwasher-cleaned. Keep the appliance unplugged while you remove any exterior moisture and follow your model’s safety instructions before using it again.
Residue is on the heating element
Use a cleaning brush while the appliance is unplugged, following the AF100 direction. If your model’s guide provides a different access or cleaning instruction, that model-specific direction takes priority.
Replacing a basket or crisper plate
Cleaning is preferable when a part is intact, but replacement may be necessary if a removable part is lost or no longer usable. Ninja’s official Air Fryer Crisper Plate listing identifies crisper plate model 103KY100 and names compatible models. Confirm the model number before ordering; a similar-looking plate is not proof of compatibility.
Ninja also maintains an Air Fryers Parts & Accessories page listing baskets and crisper plates. Use the exact air fryer model when matching a replacement. A replacement part’s listing does not change the cleaning instructions for your appliance, so continue to follow the owner’s guide that covers your model.
A simple after-use routine
- Unplug the air fryer.
- Remove the basket and crisper plate.
- Soak either removable part in warm, soapy water if food or grease is stuck.
- Wash the loosened residue.
- Wipe the main unit and control panel with a damp cloth only.
- Use a cleaning brush for residue on the heating element.
- Air-dry or towel-dry the removable parts.
- Reassemble after the parts are dry, using the instructions for your exact model.
This routine follows the AF100 Series guide while keeping the critical distinction clear: removable parts may have model-specific washing options, but the main unit stays out of water and out of the dishwasher.
