Clean a Fitbit band according to its material, clean the tracker gently, and let everything dry fully before wearing or charging it. For most washable active bands, fresh water is the default; leather, metal, knit, and woven bands should be wiped rather than soaked. Water resistance varies by model and does not make every band or device safe for showers or harsh cleaners.
What you need before cleaning
Usually, a soft cloth is enough for the tracker. For band care, use fresh water; a hypoallergenic soap may be used when needed on washable bands, but not on leather. If cleaning charging components, Google’s instructions call for an ordinary toothbrush for the tracker contacts and a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol for the cable pins. Keep a dry, lint-free cloth or tissue nearby.

Remove the device from your wrist first. If your model allows the band to detach, remove it for a more thorough clean only if the band’s own care instructions support doing so. Check the directions for your exact model and accessory when uncertain; care requirements are not identical across every Fitbit.

Google recommends cleaning the band and wrist regularly, especially after exercise or sweating, and washing a band when it is dirty or has a noticeable odor. Sweat or harsh soap trapped under a band can aggravate irritation for people with sensitive skin. Take the device off while applying sunscreen or insect-repellent sprays to help limit product damage and skin irritation. Google’s band-care guidance is at Fitbit band care.

Clean the tracker and charging parts
Wipe the tracker
For everyday smudges, use a soft cloth and follow the instructions for your device. For Fitbit Ace LTE specifically, Google says to turn the watch off and remove it from the charger before cleaning. Wipe with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth; if needed, lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water, keep moisture out of openings, and dry with a non-abrasive lint-free cloth. Do not clean Ace LTE while it is charging, use external heat to dry it, or use compressed air or ultrasonic cleaning. These Ace LTE-specific restrictions should not be assumed to apply identically to every Fitbit model. See Google’s Ace LTE cleaning instructions.
Clean the tracker contacts and cable pins
- Use a toothbrush and fresh water to gently clean the charging contacts on the back of the tracker, as directed in Google’s general cleaning instructions.
- Dry the contacts with a cloth or tissue before charging. Do not scrape them with a metal object: metal can damage the plating and cause corrosion.
- Carefully clean the charging-cable pins with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, making sure no fibers remain.

Dry everything before wearing or charging
Let the band air-dry, and make sure your wrist and the tracker are dry before wearing the device again. The tracker must be thoroughly dry before charging, and the charging contacts and cable pins should be clean and free of debris. Do not use external heat to speed drying; for model-specific cautions, consult your device’s instructions. Google’s safety guidance is at Fitbit device safety information.

Google lists most devices in its water-resistance table as water-resistant to 50 meters, while the original Fitbit Ace is described as showerproof and not suitable for swimming. Those specifications apply only to the models named in that table; they do not establish that every Fitbit or every accessory band can be submerged. Water resistance can diminish over time and may be negatively affected by drops, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, perfume, insect repellent, lotions, sunscreen, and high-velocity water.

Google advises removing Fitbit devices before showers, hot tubs, or saunas to reduce exposure to soaps and heat. If a device contacts a liquid other than fresh water, rinse or clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser such as Cetaphil, then dry it with a lint-free cloth. A quick cleaning sequence
- Remove the Fitbit from your wrist and detach the band only if the model and accessory instructions allow it.
- Clean the band by material: rinse washable active bands with fresh water; wipe leather, metal, knit, and woven bands with a water-dampened cloth instead of soaking them.
- Wipe the tracker gently with a soft cloth, following the exact model’s instructions.
- If needed, clean the tracker’s charging contacts with a toothbrush and fresh water, and the cable pins with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Keep metal tools away from the contacts and objects out of sensor openings.
- Air-dry the band and dry the tracker, your wrist, and charging parts completely before wearing or charging.
