Remove only the drawers, crisper plates, or divider parts that your exact model’s manual identifies as removable. A divider built into the cooking cavity must be cleaned in place unless the manual specifically permits removal, soaking, or dishwasher use.
Why a dual-zone air fryer needs model-specific cleaning
“Dual-zone air fryer” describes a layout with two cooking areas, not a single standardized construction. Some appliances use two independent drawers separated by the outer housing; others have a shared cavity with a fixed central divider, removable crisper plates, or a divider that looks removable but is not designed to come out. Cleaning instructions therefore depend on the model number, not just the number of zones.

Official instructions for the Ninja Foodi AF300, AF300UK, and AF451UK illustrate why generic advice can be unsafe. The AF300 manual identifies drawers and crisper plates as dishwasher-safe parts, while the AF300UK support FAQ says drawers are hand-wash only and crisper plates are dishwasher-safe. Those instructions should be treated as model-specific. They do not establish a universal rule for every dual-zone appliance.

Prepare safely before touching grease
- Stop the cooking cycle. Switch the appliance off using its controls.
- Disconnect power. Unplug the fryer from the outlet so it cannot start while your hands are inside the cavity.
- Wait until it is fully cool. The AF451UK instruction booklet specifically says to allow the unit to cool before cleaning or disassembly. Hot grease can burn you, and warm coatings are easier to damage.
- Clear the work area. Put removable parts on a stable counter near the sink. Keep the plug, cord, control panel, and main housing away from standing water.
- Read the exact manual. Confirm which drawers, plates, racks, baskets, or dividers can be removed and whether your model permits soaking or dishwasher cleaning.
Do not begin by spraying cleaner into the fryer. Liquid can travel behind a divider or through openings toward electrical components, even when the visible surface looks dry.
Identify what the divider actually is
Two drawers with an external separation
On designs with two independent baskets, the apparent “divider” may be part of the fixed main housing rather than a removable wall. The AF300 product information describes two independent baskets, but that description alone does not prove that the central structure on another model can be detached. Treat the housing between drawers as fixed unless the manual gives removal instructions.
A removable crisper plate
A crisper plate sits inside a drawer and can often be lifted out. It is not necessarily the same component as the divider between cooking zones. Follow the manual’s instructions for lifting it out, washing it, and reinstalling it. Do not force a plate that is held by clips or rails.
Recommended Free Tools
A fixed central wall or bridge
A fixed divider may have seams, vents, or edges where grease collects. Clean those surfaces where they are, using only the method allowed for the main interior. Do not lever it out with a knife, screwdriver, or other metal tool.
A divider the manual explicitly lists as removable
If the manual names the divider as a removable part, follow its removal sequence exactly. Check whether it may be soaked, hand-washed, or placed in a dishwasher. “Removable” does not automatically mean “dishwasher-safe” or “safe to leave submerged.”
What you need
- Warm or hot water, as permitted by the manual.
- Dish soap approved for ordinary cookware, unless the manufacturer specifies another cleaner.
- A soft, non-scratch sponge. SharkNinja’s AF300 guidance specifically recommends a soft sponge for residue remaining after soaking drawers or crisper plates.
- A soft cloth for the main housing and control panel.
- A dry towel and a draining area where parts can air-dry fully.
A non-scratch dish sponge is useful for approved removable parts, but it is not a reason to scrub heating elements, vents, non-removable dividers, or electrical openings. Avoid metal scouring pads. The AF451UK booklet warns that fragments from metal pads can break off, contact electrical parts, and create an electric-shock risk.

Standard cleaning sequence for removable drawers and plates
1. Remove only approved parts
Pull out the drawers or baskets using their handles. Lift out crisper plates only if the manual shows that they are designed to come out. If a plate is stuck by baked-on grease, do not pry it with a sharp object; proceed with the approved soaking method once the part is safely removed.
2. Empty loose debris
Tip crumbs and cooled food residue into the bin. Removing loose material first keeps the wash water from becoming needlessly greasy and lets you see whether the remaining film is on the plate, the drawer, or the cavity.
3. Soak when the model allows it
For AF300-series drawers and crisper plates, SharkNinja says to soak stuck parts in warm, soapy water. The AF300 manual also specifies hot, soapy water for removable parts. Use the temperature and soaking limits in your own manual; do not assume that another model has the same coating or seal construction.
4. Wipe with a soft sponge
After soaking, use a soft sponge on the residue that remains. Work around corners and perforations without aggressive pressure. A non-scratch sponge is preferable to an abrasive pad because coatings can be damaged by hard scrubbing.
5. Rinse without flooding hidden components
Rinse the removable part at the sink if the manual permits washing under running water. Keep the main unit out of the sink. Do not carry a wet drawer over the control panel or allow water to run into the air inlet, outlet, or electrical housing.
6. Dry completely
SharkNinja’s AF300 guidance calls for thorough air-drying or towel-drying. Dry every surface, including the underside and the channels that support a crisper plate, before reinstalling the parts. Moisture trapped under a plate can mix with old grease and create another sticky film during the next cook.
How to remove grease from a fixed divider
The divider is the part that causes the most confusion. Manufacturer sources for the models covered here do not provide a universal divider-removal or degreasing procedure. Use this cautious decision path instead.

First, confirm whether removal is authorized
Search the manual for the exact model number and terms such as “divider,” “partition,” “separator,” or “disassembly.” If the manual does not describe removal, regard the divider as fixed. Do not infer removability from a visible seam, a small gap, or the fact that the drawers come out.
If the divider is fixed
- Make sure the appliance is unplugged and cold.
- Remove the drawers and crisper plates if the manual allows it, so you can see the divider’s lower edges.
- Dampen a soft cloth or soft sponge rather than pouring water into the cavity.
- Wipe the accessible divider surfaces and seams, keeping moisture controlled.
- Use a barely damp cotton swab or corner of the cloth for narrow joints, if it can be done without pushing material into vents.
- Dry the area with a clean cloth and leave the appliance open until all visible moisture has evaporated.
This method removes surface grease without claiming that the divider can be soaked. Stop if the grease is behind a sealed panel, around wiring, or next to the heating element; the manual’s restrictions take priority.
If the manual permits divider removal and soaking
Remove it exactly as illustrated, note the orientation, and use only the stated water temperature and detergent. Keep screws, clips, and seals together. After washing, dry every joint and reinstall the divider before operating the appliance. Do not substitute a dishwasher cycle unless the manual explicitly lists that part as dishwasher-safe.
If grease has hardened around the divider edge
Soften only the accessible residue with a damp, soapy cloth held against the area. Avoid flooding the seam. Wipe repeatedly rather than scraping. Metal tools and abrasive pads can damage coatings, leave fragments, or push grease into an opening. If the residue cannot be reached without disassembly that the manual does not authorize, contact the manufacturer rather than forcing the part.
AF300 and AF300UK: reconcile the published care instructions
The AF300 family has unusually specific, but not perfectly identical, published guidance. The Philippines AF300 manual says drawers and crisper plates are the only dishwasher-safe parts for that model and recommends hand-washing drawers to extend their life. The UK AF300-series FAQ says drawers are hand-wash only and crisper plates are dishwasher-safe. Both sources support warm or hot soapy-water cleaning and soft-sponge use for stuck residue.
| Part or action | AF300 manual guidance | AF300UK FAQ guidance | Safe interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drawers | Listed among dishwasher-safe parts; hand-washing is recommended to extend life. | Hand-wash only. | Use hand-washing unless the manual for your exact regional model clearly permits a dishwasher. |
| Crisper plates | Dishwasher-safe. | Dishwasher-safe. | Use a dishwasher only when your exact manual permits it; otherwise hand-wash. |
| Main unit and control panel | Never clean the main unit in the dishwasher. | Wipe with a damp cloth; never immerse the main unit. | Keep the electrical housing out of water and out of the dishwasher. |
| Stuck residue | Hot, soapy water for removable parts. | Warm, soapy-water soaking, then a soft sponge; dry thoroughly. | Apply this sequence only to parts identified as removable. |
The difference between the two drawer instructions is exactly why a general “dishwasher-safe” claim is unsafe. Check the model suffix, region, and manual supplied with your appliance.

AF451UK safety points that change how you scrub
The AF451UK instruction booklet says to cool the appliance before cleaning or disassembly and warns against metal scouring pads. Fragments can break off and touch electrical parts, creating an electric-shock risk. It also instructs users to prevent food from contacting the heating elements.
Keep sponges, cloths, and loosened grease away from the elements. Do not scrape an element, push a tool through a vent, or use a metal brush to reach the top of a divider. If grease has migrated onto a heating element, stop cleaning that area and follow the model’s service or cleaning instructions rather than improvising.
Cleaning the main housing and control panel
With the appliance unplugged and cool, wipe the outside and control panel with a damp cloth. The AF300UK FAQ says to wipe these areas and never submerge the main unit in water or another liquid. Wring the cloth so it is damp, not dripping, and wipe again with a dry cloth.
Do not place the main unit in a sink or dishwasher. Do not spray cleaner directly at buttons, displays, vents, the drawer tracks, or the power connection. If grease has entered an opening, disconnect the appliance and consult the manual or manufacturer support; adding more liquid can move the contamination deeper.
Dishwasher decisions: a quick check before loading
- Is the part explicitly named? If not, hand-wash it.
- Is the instruction for your exact model and region? A similarly named series is not enough.
- Does the manual distinguish drawers from crisper plates? Follow that distinction; they may have different coatings or construction.
- Does the part contain a seal, hinge, sensor, or electrical contact? Do not load it unless the manual clearly authorizes dishwasher cleaning.
- Can you remove all grease before loading? Wipe heavy grease first so it does not spread through the dishwasher.
When instructions conflict, choose the more conservative option—hand-wash the part—and seek clarification from the manufacturer for the exact model number.
What not to do
- Do not clean while the fryer is powered or still hot.
- Do not immerse the main unit, control panel, plug, or electrical housing.
- Do not assume every divider is removable because drawers are removable.
- Do not soak a fixed divider or cavity unless the manual explicitly permits it.
- Do not use metal scouring pads, knives, screwdrivers, or wire brushes near electrical parts or heating elements.
- Do not scrape coatings aggressively to remove a thin grease film.
- Do not use a dishwasher setting for a part whose manual is silent or contradictory.
- Do not operate the appliance until washed parts and the cavity are completely dry.
Troubleshooting stubborn grease
The drawer is clean but the divider still feels tacky
The residue is probably on a fixed interior surface rather than the removable crisper plate. Repeat controlled wiping with a damp, soapy cloth, changing to a clean section of the cloth as grease lifts. Do not pour water into the cavity.

A crisper plate still has baked-on spots after soaking
Repeat the model-approved soak and use a soft sponge. If the coating begins to flake, discolor, or feel rough, stop scrubbing and check the manual for replacement guidance. Do not switch to a metal pad to finish the job.
Grease is inside a seam or vent
Do not flood the seam or insert a tool. Wipe only the accessible surface and contact the manufacturer if the manual does not explain how to disassemble that area.

Check the underside of each crisper plate, the drawer channels, and the accessible edges around the divider. Remove any remaining film with the approved hand-washing method, then air-dry or towel-dry thoroughly. If the smell comes from an electrical area or heating element, stop using the fryer until the manufacturer provides instructions.
The drawer no longer slides smoothly
Unplug the appliance and inspect the drawer rails for crumbs or dried grease. Wipe accessible rails with a barely damp cloth, dry them, and reinstall the drawer without forcing it. Do not add oil or lubricant unless the manual specifically calls for one.
A practical maintenance schedule
After every cooking session
- Let the appliance cool fully and unplug it before handling parts.
- Empty crumbs and wipe visible grease from approved removable parts.
- Check the divider and cavity for splatter before it hardens.
When residue is visible
- Remove the drawers and plates permitted by the manual.
- Soak and sponge AF300-approved parts as directed, or use your model’s specified method.
- Wipe the fixed divider in place with controlled moisture.
- Dry every component before reassembly.
Before storing the appliance
Confirm that no water remains in drawer channels, under crisper plates, around the divider, or near vents. Store the fryer with the drawers positioned as the manual recommends, leaving enough ventilation for residual moisture to escape.
When to stop and ask the manufacturer
Contact the manufacturer or consult the official manual when the model number is missing, the divider’s status is unclear, a part will not release using the documented procedure, grease has entered an electrical opening, a coating is damaged, or published instructions for your region conflict. Give support the complete model and suffix, not merely “dual-zone air fryer.” That information determines whether a part may be soaked, washed by hand, or placed in a dishwasher.
