How to Claim Free Xbox Games and Check Whether You Own Them

To claim a free Xbox Store game, open its listing, confirm it is marked Free, and select its free acquisition or install option while signed in to the Microsoft account you want to use. To check ownership, sign in to that same account and look in your owned library; on Xbox One, missing games may appear under My games & apps > Ready to install. A game marked Included with Game Pass or Demo is not the same as a permanent free Store claim.

How do I claim free Xbox games?

3. Select the free acquisition or install action shown on the product page and follow the prompts. Make sure the console is signed in to the Microsoft account whose library should hold the game.

4. After the claim or installation, find the title in your library. If you only want to browse what is available, use the current Xbox free-games catalog; its listings and availability can change by region and date.

The catalog checked on October 4, 2026 showed examples marked Free, including eFootball, Roblox – Xbox, Fortnite Battle Royale, Marvel Rivals, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, and Apex Legends. That is a dated snapshot, not a guarantee that each listing or its status remains unchanged. The catalog also contains demos, trials, and Game Pass-included games, which should not be treated as free permanent entitlements.

2. On Xbox One, open My games & apps > Ready to install to find owned content that is not currently installed. Microsoft documents this route in its guide to apps or games missing from a device.

3. On newer Xbox console software, look in Full library > All owned games. Menu wording can vary with the console software version.

4. On PC, check the Microsoft Store library, which may be labeled My library or All owned. The same Microsoft support page explains the PC library route.

If a title is available only because it is included with Game Pass, treat it as membership access rather than proof of a permanent purchase. To confirm a digital entitlement, check the owned library or your Microsoft account’s order history.

3. Choose Redeem, enter the 25-character code, and follow the prompts. These console steps are described on the Xbox code redemption page.

Use the intended Microsoft account before redeeming: Xbox warns that a redeemed code cannot be transferred to another account. For code-based purchase or redemption details, Xbox directs users to Microsoft account order history and redeemed codes.

Why is my game not showing in my Xbox library?

• Check the account. A claim or redeemed code is associated with the account used at the time. Switch to that account before checking its library.

• Check the right library section. On Xbox One, look under My games & apps > Ready to install; on newer software, check the owned-games section of the full library.

• Confirm the listing’s access type. Game Pass access, a demo, or a trial may not appear as a permanent owned-game entitlement.

• Check order history for a redeemed code or purchase. If the code was redeemed on another account, Xbox says it cannot be transferred.

Can an Xbox disc give me digital access to a game?

Xbox Wire announced on August 26, 2026 that most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based games support a feature for claiming a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc and launching the game. Xbox said the feature was starting with thousands of titles, with more to be added over time, and that not every title was supported at launch. Check whether the specific game is eligible in Xbox’s announcement, Your Discs. Now Also Digital. This disc-based route is distinct from claiming a free game in the Store.
