The MSI free-code promotion has expired
MSI’s promotion is the source of many “get it free” search results, but it is historical. It bundled a Steam game code with selected PC cases and power supplies. The promotion required an eligible product, proof of purchase, product registration and a claim made in the country where the product was purchased.
- Eligible purchase period: April 24 through May 24, 2025.
- Code redemption period: May 8 through June 21, 2025, or until codes ran out.
- Steam activation deadline: April 24, 2026.
- Important exclusions: Components included in prebuilt PCs were excluded from the eligible-hardware rules.
The complete terms remain useful for understanding how the offer worked, but they are not a current route to the game: MSI promotion terms. Do not purchase expensive hardware because an old page or cached headline says the game is free. Every relevant date has passed.
The dates also show why three separate checks matter in a hardware bundle. Buying during the purchase window did not by itself place the game in a Steam account: the buyer still had to submit proof, register the product and redeem during the claim window. Even a validly issued code then had its own Steam activation deadline. A future bundle could use different dates, so copy each deadline into your records rather than relying on a retailer’s summary.
How to check for a real free-to-keep offer
When a new promotion is announced, use this sequence before assuming you can keep the game.
- Start at an official source. Open the platform store, the publisher’s game page or the promotion owner’s terms. Avoid treating a search-result snippet, social post or coupon page as proof.
- Identify the exact product. Confirm that the offer names the base game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, not a soundtrack, cosmetic pack, demo, trial or update.
- Read the ownership language. Look for “redeem,” “add to library,” “permanent license” or equivalent wording. “Play while subscribed,” “trial,” “access” and “downloadable content” describe different rights.

The phrase “free” can describe several different benefits. A free-to-keep promotion changes the account’s entitlement for the base app. A trial grants play time for a defined period. A subscription catalog lets you play while both the subscription and catalog inclusion remain valid. A free update supplies new material to people who already have a way to launch the game. These rights can appear next to one another on a store page, so read the product label and the purchase button together.
Permanent does not mean that every platform is interchangeable. A Steam entitlement is tied to the Steam account and storefront. A PlayStation purchase or trial is governed by the PlayStation account and console store. Xbox access is governed by the Microsoft account, device support and the applicable Game Pass plan. A claim should identify the exact platform on which the entitlement will appear; “digital copy” without a storefront name is incomplete.

Trial access is not a library claim
The US PlayStation product page lists a two-hour full-game trial for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers: PlayStation’s listing. A trial lets an eligible subscriber play for the stated period; it does not turn the game into a permanently owned item in the account library.
Trial availability, duration and subscription requirements can differ outside the United States. Before starting, read the region-specific store text and check what happens when the trial expires. If you cancel the subscription or the trial time runs out, access can stop unless you separately buy the game or maintain an eligible entitlement.
The two-hour figure should therefore be treated as a limit on the cited US listing, not a universal promise for every account. Check whether the timer measures active play or another condition in your local terms, and do not begin the trial until the account and platform are the ones you intend to use.

Is Expedition 33 free on Game Pass?
Xbox Wire reported that the game launched on Game Pass, Xbox consoles and PC in April 2025. That establishes launch-era subscription access, not the title’s current catalog status. Catalog membership can change, and a Game Pass subscription is access under subscription terms rather than a permanent purchase added to your library.

If the listing has an “included with Game Pass” label, read it as catalog access. If it shows a purchase price, the subscription may no longer include the title in that region or plan. A subscription download can remain installed after a catalog change while still refusing to launch; installation is not evidence of a perpetual license.
Free updates do not make the base game free
Several official announcements use “free” to describe additional content. Xbox Wire’s December 11, 2025 article announced a free update, and PlayStation Blog described the PS5 Thank You Update as content being released “for free.” The statement from Sandfall Interactive CEO and creative director Guillaume Broche was: “As a show of thanks, we’re dropping a major content update to the game on PS5 right now (for free!).”
Those announcements concern owners or players who already have access to the game. They do not grant a no-cost base-game license to someone who does not own it. An update can be free to download while the product it updates remains paid. If your store page offers an update button but still shows a price for the base app, the update has not replaced the license requirement. Install it only after confirming that your account has a valid purchase, trial or subscription entitlement.
What is included in the free Steam extras?
The Steam page separately identifies free bonus content, including soundtrack items. Bonus files are not the base game. If a store page shows a free soundtrack, art item or other add-on beside a paid product, selecting the free item does not grant the full adventure.
On Steam, inspect the product title, purchase button and package contents together. A genuine permanent claim should change your account entitlement for the base app, not merely add a soundtrack or downloadable extra.

Buy the full game on your preferred platform
The official Bandai Namco page lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and presents the Standard Edition as a physical or digital full-game edition. Use the country and edition filters on that page because prices, stock, retailers and available formats vary. This is a paid alternative, not a method for obtaining a free code.
Use a subscription only if its terms suit you

Search engines can preserve “free game” headlines after the redemption window closes. Compare the headline with the promotion’s own dates. For the MSI offer, the final Steam activation date was April 24, 2026; a cached page cannot extend it.

“Free update” means new content delivered to a game, not necessarily a free copy of the game. Look for the base-game purchase or entitlement before downloading.
Assuming a subscription equals ownership
