How to Claim and Install Free Games Included with Xbox Offers

First identify the offer: a game or other item bundled with an Xbox console uses Digital Direct, while a Game Pass benefit is claimed through the Benefits area and may need to be activated inside a supported game. Digital Direct offers do not require a code; once claimed, eligible content appears in your digital library.

Claim a game included with your Xbox console

Xbox’s Digital Direct offer is attached to the console. You can claim it during initial setup or later in Settings. Xbox states, “With Digital Direct, no codes are required.” The offer is attached to the first Microsoft account that redeems it, so make sure you are signed in to the account that should receive it.

2. On PC: Open the Xbox PC app and select the Benefits button on Home or the Game Pass tab.
3. On mobile: Open the Xbox mobile app and select Benefits.
4. Review the offer: Check which game and platform it supports, and whether it requires account linking or other setup.
5. Complete the claim: Follow the offer instructions. Xbox describes launching the supported game on an Xbox console, PC, or supported device as the final claim step for benefits.

Claiming and installing are separate steps. For a Digital Direct game, Xbox says claimed content is available in the digital library under My games & apps; select the game there to download or install it. The general benefits instructions do not establish one universal download sequence for every title, so follow the offer’s stated steps rather than assuming that claiming a benefit installs a full game.
