To get a free Epic Games Store game, claim it from Epic’s current Free Games offer before its displayed deadline, then install it later from the Epic Games Launcher. Epic says weekly giveaways are available for seven days from Thursday at 8 AM PT and require an Epic account with two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. You do not have to download the game during the offer period.
Claim the current free game before the offer ends
- Visit Epic’s Free Games page and check the active title and the deadline shown on the page. Offers rotate, so rely on the live listing rather than an old game name or date.
- Sign in to your Epic Games account. Enable 2FA if it is not already enabled; Epic lists it as a requirement for claiming a weekly giveaway.
- Complete the on-screen claim flow before the stated cutoff. Epic says weekly games arrive Thursday at 8 AM PT and can be claimed for seven days. The exact title and deadline are shown on the live offer.
Claiming and installing are separate. Once claimed, the game is added to your library, and you can download it later. Epic describes a claimed weekly game as “yours permanently,” but its EULA licenses software rather than selling it and notes that, in rare cases, a title may be removed and become unavailable for further download or access. See Epic’s EULA for the applicable terms.

Install the Epic Games Launcher on PC
- Go to the Epic Games Store download page and click Download in the upper-right corner. The installer should start automatically; if it does not, choose the button for your platform.
- Run the downloaded installer and open the Epic Games Launcher.
- In the Launcher, select Library, find the game you claimed, and select it.
- Choose an installation directory, then click Install.
- Let the download and installation finish. Select the game’s icon in the Launcher to start it.
Epic’s published installation steps do not give a universal free-space requirement or download time for individual games. Check the game’s store listing and the installer’s prompts before starting a large download.

Check whether your PC can run the game
Epic’s baseline specifications cover the Store and Launcher, not every game. The page lists Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, or macOS 10.13 or higher; an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 2×2 processor; 2 GB of memory; DirectX 9.0c-compatible graphics, with NVIDIA GeForce 7800 (512 MB), AMD Radeon HD 4600 (512 MB), or Intel HD 4000 given as examples; and 1.5 GB of hard-drive space. Epic warns that an individual game may require more. Check that title’s own system requirements before downloading. See Epic’s download and system specifications page.

If you missed the claim window or hit an error
The free offer has expired
Epic says giveaway promotions are time-limited and must be claimed within the period shown. If the offer has ended, watch the Free Games page for future promotions; do not assume support can retroactively add an expired giveaway.
The claim or installation flow shows an error
Epic’s free promotions help page directs users with redemption problems to its guidance on redemption issues. Follow the steps for the specific error. If it persists, contact Epic Support; different account, eligibility, or regional errors may need different remedies.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
