Choose Standard if you want the game at the lowest listed US price or need the physical PS5 copy. Choose Digital Deluxe if you already want the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass, Howard the Duck lobby avatar, and Cosmo lobby pet. Choose Ultimate if you also want five exclusive costumes and animated color variations for all 20 launch characters—particularly while the US PlayStation promotion is active through October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC.
All three editions contain the same base fighting game. The important differences are downloadable content, cosmetic bonuses, format, and whether paying up front is cheaper or simpler than upgrading later.

|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $59.99 | Base game | Players who want to start with the game alone, or who want a physical PS5 copy |
| Digital Deluxe | $84.99 | Base game; Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass; Howard the Duck lobby avatar; Cosmo lobby pet | Players who want the first-year character and stage content plus the lobby items |
| Ultimate | $99.99 list price; $84.99 promotional price displayed by PlayStation through October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC | Everything in Digital Deluxe; animated chromatic color variations for all 20 launch characters; five additional costumes | Players who want the complete launch cosmetic set, especially during the current discount |
These are US recommended retail prices shown by the official MARVEL Tōkon FAQ and store listings. Prices in other regions, taxes, currency conversions, retailer discounts, and promotion end dates can differ. Steam displayed the same US edition prices. Treat the PlayStation Ultimate price as a live, time-limited offer rather than a permanent change to the list price.

What every edition actually gives you
Standard Edition
Standard is the complete base game, not a trial or reduced mode selection. It is the lowest-cost entry and the only edition offered as the confirmed physical PS5 release. The base roster contains 20 playable launch characters. Standard also includes the game’s offline modes, so choosing it does not lock you out of Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, or Character Guides. Arcadia Rumble is playable offline as well, with optional online features.
#1 Best Overall
- Assemble your team of legendary Marvel characters in the ultimate 4v4 tag team fighter from PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works and Marvel Games.
- Experiment with team compositions to discover new combos, synergies, and strategies. Blast your way through dynamic stages based on iconic Marvel Universe locales, some featuring interactive stage transitions.
- Fighting is both immersive and intuitive, with a range of unique move sets, combos, and strategies to master. Adjustable controls, both traditional and quick inputs, plus easy chain combos make diving right in a breeze.
- Face off against a friend locally or join the fray with up to 64 players in the online lobby, including standard VS modes. Plus, dive deep on each team with the single player Episode Mode to learn more about team dynamics and lore.
The main reason to buy Standard is flexibility. You can play the core game first, decide whether the additional fighters and stage matter to you, and add the relevant content later. That approach is particularly useful if you are unsure whether you will keep playing after learning the combat system.
Digital Deluxe Edition
Digital Deluxe includes the base game and the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass. The pass provides four additional characters, one additional stage, and result-screen poses for the 20-character launch roster. It also includes two lobby items: a Howard the Duck lobby avatar and a Cosmo lobby pet.
This edition is the practical middle choice for players who already know they want the first-year downloadable content but do not care about Ultimate’s character costumes and animated colors. The pass is content rather than a cosmetic-only bundle: it expands the playable cast and stage selection as the scheduled releases arrive.
Ultimate Edition
Ultimate contains all Digital Deluxe content, then adds a cosmetic package aimed at players who enjoy customizing the launch roster. Its five exclusive costumes are:
- Spider-Man “Advanced Suit 2.0”
- Storm Punk Rock
- Iron Man Classic
- Captain America Classic
- Doctor Doom Supreme Ruler
It also unlocks animated chromatic color variations for all 20 launch characters. These bonuses change presentation and personalization; they do not add fighters, stages, or a separate gameplay system beyond the content already included in Digital Deluxe.
How the upgrade paths affect your total cost
You do not have to make the perfect decision on day one. The official FAQ confirms that Standard and Digital Deluxe owners can upgrade to Ultimate. PlayStation lists a Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade for $40, while Steam lists the same $40 amount. Steam also lists a $15 Deluxe-to-Ultimate upgrade. Store pricing and availability can change, so verify the amount shown for your account and region before purchasing.
Buying Standard first
Standard is a sound choice when you want the base game now and are undecided about downloadable content. If you later want every Ultimate feature, the listed upgrade route brings you to the Ultimate content without requiring you to buy the game a second time. However, calculate the combined total at the time you buy: a later upgrade may not be cheaper than buying the higher edition during a promotion.

Digital Deluxe is aimed at players who have already decided they want the Year 1 pass. If you later want Ultimate’s costumes and animated colors, the listed Steam Deluxe-to-Ultimate upgrade is $15. Check the platform store’s current offer, because upgrade pricing can vary by storefront, region, or promotion.
Buying Ultimate during the promotion
During the displayed PlayStation offer, Ultimate was priced at the same $84.99 shown for Digital Deluxe. If that offer is still visible when you check out, Ultimate provides the Deluxe pass and lobby items plus the five costumes and 20 animated color sets for no additional edition-level premium. The offer was scheduled to end October 22, 2026 at 06:59 UTC, so do not assume the parity will remain afterward.
Buying the Year 1 pass separately
The Year 1 pass is separately listed at $34.99 on PlayStation and Steam. A Standard owner can therefore postpone the pass decision, but should compare the standalone price with the difference between editions and with any current upgrade offer. The separate pass does not automatically provide Ultimate’s five costumes or animated launch-character colors.
What is in the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass?
The official FAQ describes four additional characters and one additional stage, plus result-screen poses for the 20-character base roster. The poses become available when you buy the pass. Steam says the remaining pass content is expected to be made available by December 31, 2027; that is a delivery target, not a guarantee that every item will arrive on a particular day.

A GamesRadar report dated October 11, 2026 identified the four announced Year One fighters as Venom, Jubilee, Jane Foster’s Thor, and Phoenix Cyclops. The report placed Phoenix Cyclops first, with an announced date of November 2, 2026, and described the other releases as arriving later in 2027. These are announced or reported dates and can move. If you are buying specifically for one character, check the current official announcement rather than treating the schedule as final.
The pass is therefore most valuable to players who intend to play online for the long term, collect the full roster, or want the extra stage and result-screen presentation items. If you only want to explore the launch cast casually, Standard leaves that option open without paying for content you may never use.
Physical PS5 buyers: what you can and cannot get
The confirmed physical release is the PS5 Standard Edition. There is no confirmed physical Deluxe or Ultimate package in the supplied official edition information. A physical Standard buyer is not permanently limited to Standard content: the official FAQ specifically confirms that the owner can purchase Digital Deluxe or Ultimate upgrades through PlayStation Store.
The upgrade is tied to the PlayStation account and store transaction, while the disc remains the physical copy of the base game. Keep the disc available when launching a disc-based installation. If you change consoles, make sure the account that purchased the upgrade is the account used to access the downloadable content.
Choose physical Standard when resale, collecting, lending the disc, or avoiding an all-digital purchase matters more than receiving the pass immediately. Choose a digital edition when instant download, sharing the console’s digital library under your platform’s account rules, or avoiding disc handling is more important.
PS5 and PC differences that matter to the edition decision
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is officially available on PS5 and PC, with PC versions on Steam and Epic. PlayStation states that PS5 and PC support cross-play. The edition content is the key purchase variable; the base game’s offline modes are not removed from Standard.
Online requirements on PS5
Online play on PS5 requires an internet connection and PlayStation Plus. This requirement concerns network play, not the offline modes listed for the base game. If you mainly play Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, Character Guides, or offline Arcadia Rumble, an active PlayStation Plus subscription is not the reason to choose one edition over another.
Online requirements on PC
PC online features require an internet connection and a PlayStation account. You can buy through Steam or Epic, but confirm that your accounts are linked as required before expecting cross-play or other online services to work.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteControllers and accessories
A PS5-compatible arcade stick or leverless controller is supported, but neither is required for any edition. A standard gamepad is sufficient to choose, install, and play the game. PlayStation’s page lists the Nacon Daija and Victrix Pro KO among competitive setup products; compatibility should be checked for your exact console, PC connection, and firmware before purchase. Do not add an arcade controller to the edition budget unless you already want one for fighting games generally.

You want the lowest initial spend
Buy Standard. You receive the full base game and can defer the pass or cosmetic upgrades until you know how much you play. This is also the direct route if you want a disc.
You want every announced gameplay addition
Buy Digital Deluxe if the Ultimate promotion is no longer active and you do not value the Ultimate cosmetics. Its pass covers the four additional characters, one stage, and result-screen poses. If Ultimate is temporarily priced at the same level, choose Ultimate instead because it includes the same pass plus the extra cosmetic set.

You collect costumes and color variants
Buy Ultimate. The five named costumes and animated chromatic variations for the entire 20-character launch roster are exclusive to that tier. Digital Deluxe and Standard do not include them.
Recommended Free Tools
You are buying for local or offline play
Start with Standard unless you specifically want the pass or cosmetics. All listed offline modes are part of the base game, and the edition tier does not unlock a separate offline campaign.
You compete online for years
Digital Deluxe or Ultimate is more convenient if you already plan to use every Year 1 fighter and the extra stage. Remember that network access has separate platform requirements: PS5 uses PlayStation Plus, while PC online features require internet and a PlayStation account. The edition itself does not replace those requirements.
You are unsure whether you will keep playing
Standard minimizes commitment. Keep the upgrade prices and the standalone pass price in mind, then revisit the decision when a desired character, stage, or promotion is actually available.
A practical buying checklist
- Confirm your platform. Decide between PS5, Steam, and Epic, and check that the storefront is displaying your region’s currency and edition contents.
- Decide on physical versus digital. The confirmed physical option is PS5 Standard; digital upgrades remain available to that physical buyer through PlayStation Store.
- Mark the pass requirement. If you want Venom, Jubilee, Jane Foster’s Thor, Phoenix Cyclops, the additional stage, and the pass poses, include the Year 1 pass in your budget.
- Price the cosmetics separately in your head. Ultimate’s value comes from five costumes and animated colors for all 20 launch characters, not from extra pass characters beyond Digital Deluxe.
- Check for a live promotion. The displayed Ultimate discount was temporary and had a specific UTC end time. Recheck the final checkout total rather than relying on an old screenshot or list price.
- Check upgrade eligibility. Standard and Digital Deluxe buyers can upgrade to Ultimate; physical PS5 Standard buyers are explicitly included in that route.
- Verify online prerequisites. PS5 online play needs internet and PlayStation Plus; PC online features need internet and a PlayStation account.
- Save your account details. Downloadable upgrades and pass content are associated with the purchasing platform account, so use the account that will play the game.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming Ultimate’s sale price is permanent
The lower Ultimate amount shown by PlayStation was a promotion with an end date. Compare the current checkout price each time; do not treat it as the new standard MSRP.
Paying for Deluxe when Ultimate costs the same
If both editions display the same price, Deluxe has no price advantage because Ultimate includes all of its content and adds the cosmetic package. This comparison only applies while the promotion is actually displayed in your store and region.
Assuming the pass includes every cosmetic
The pass covers its characters, stage, and result-screen poses. Ultimate’s five costumes and animated launch-character colors are separate edition bonuses.
Expecting every announced fighter immediately
Pass content is scheduled over time. Phoenix Cyclops was reported for November 2, 2026, while other announced fighters were described for later in 2027. Release plans can change, and the full pass delivery target is stated as December 31, 2027 on Steam.
Buying a controller as if it were required
Arcade sticks and leverless controllers are optional. Choose the edition based on game content first, then assess accessories for your broader fighting-game setup.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Cross-play support between PS5 and PC does not remove platform account or subscription requirements. Check the PS5 PlayStation Plus requirement and the PC PlayStation-account requirement before planning online sessions.
The simplest decision
For most undecided buyers, Standard is the safest starting point because it supplies the entire base game, has the physical PS5 option, and preserves an upgrade route. Digital Deluxe is the right deliberate purchase when the Year 1 pass and lobby items matter. Ultimate is the enthusiast choice for the five exclusive costumes and 20 animated color variations—and it becomes the obvious value whenever the temporary PlayStation price matches Digital Deluxe.
