How to Choose Which Helldivers 2 Premium Warbond to Unlock First (2026 Guide)

Short answer: keep earning Medals in the included Helldivers Mobilize! Warbond until you know what your loadouts lack. If you want one paid track built around explosive options, Democratic Detonation is a reasonable first choice, but that is a community-backed editorial recommendation—not an official ranking. Choose a different Warbond when a specific weapon, booster, armor passive, or theme fits your role better. Ironclad Democracy is the most relevant alternative for area damage, anti-tank support, impact protection, or fire-related rewards.

This guide explains the unlock economy, what each documented reward is suited to, how to compare tracks in the Acquisition Center, and when waiting is the smarter decision.

What a Premium Warbond unlock actually gives you

Warbonds are in-game catalogues containing weapons, armor, capes, emotes, Stratagems, utilities, boosters, and other cosmetic or combat rewards. A Premium Warbond purchase unlocks access to its pages; it does not immediately grant every item in the catalogue.

You spend Super Credits (SC) to open the Warbond, then spend Medals earned during play to claim individual rewards. Access and progression are separate decisions: buying a track does not replace the missions, orders, or other activities that provide Medals.

“Once you unlock a Warbond* its pages are yours to work through in your own time. There’s no expiration and you can contribute Medals to multiple active Warbonds.”

That statement appears in PlayStation’s official beginner guide; its asterisk notes that Premium Warbonds require Super Credits. You can therefore unlock a track, work on another one, and return later without racing a seasonal deadline.

How much a Warbond costs

An independent Warbond directory last verified on September 6, 2026 lists Premium Warbonds at 1,000 SC and Legendary Warbonds at 1,500 SC. Those are in-game currency amounts, not regional real-money prices. Open the in-game Acquisition Center and confirm the displayed cost for the exact track before purchasing; prices or categories can change by edition, region, or later update.

Super Credits and the Warbond catalogue are digital game content. There is no need to buy a physical guide, accessory, or retail item to make this choice, and a game retailer is not an official route for purchasing Warbond currency.

The five-minute decision path

  1. Play the free track first. Progress through Helldivers Mobilize! while you learn whether you prefer crowd clearing, precision fire, support, defense, or anti-armor work. This gives you a baseline before spending SC.
  2. Name the missing capability. Write down the exact problem: too few explosive tools, weak ammunition economy, a one-handed sidearm for a Ballistic Shield, more anti-tank calls, impact survivability, or simply a particular cosmetic.
  3. Inspect the actual pages. In the Acquisition Center, open each candidate Warbond and check the item page, Medal cost, prerequisite page, and any passive or booster description. A track’s theme or reward count is not evidence that it performs better overall.
  4. Check the currency tier. Confirm whether the candidate is a 1,000-SC Premium Warbond or a 1,500-SC Legendary Warbond in your current game client.
  5. Separate access from earning. Make sure you are willing to earn the Medals needed for the item you want. If you only want one reward, note how many pages and Medals stand between you and it.
  6. Delay if the answer is unclear. Unlocked Warbonds do not expire, and you can contribute Medals to multiple active tracks. Waiting preserves SC for a clearer need.

Which Warbond fits which job?

Priority Track or reward to inspect What is established What it does not prove
Explosive tools in several equipment slots Democratic Detonation The official announcement lists the R-36 Eruptor Rifle, CB-9 Exploding Crossbow, G-123 Thermite Grenade, and GP-31 Grenade Pistol, along with other rewards. It does not establish a universal damage or win-rate lead over every other Warbond.
Energy-primary ammunition economy Cutting Edge, especially LAS-16 Sickle PlayStation describes the Sickle as a rapid-firing charged weapon that can avoid conventional ammunition concerns when you prevent overheating. That description supports a heat-management preference, not a complete ranking of the Warbond.
One-handed explosive sidearm GP-31 Grenade Pistol in Democratic Detonation It fires impact grenades and can be used one-handed, including while carrying a Ballistic Shield. It does not make every shield or pistol loadout optimal.
Area damage and extra anti-tank calls Ironclad Democracy: GL-15 Evictor and Surplus EAT Allocation The Evictor is described as a pump-action grenade launcher with area-of-effect capability; Surplus EAT Allocation provides two free EAT uses per mission. The announcement does not provide a cross-faction performance ranking.
Impact defense and fire support Ironclad Democracy: Blunt-Force Mitigation and Integrated Extinguishers Booster Blunt-Force Mitigation reduces damage from impacts and collisions by 30% and increases armor rating. The booster reduces the time needed to extinguish fire. Those defensive benefits do not automatically outweigh a weapon you will use every mission.
Cosmetics, armor appearance, or a named reward The Warbond containing that exact item Warbonds are mixed catalogues, so a personal theme or cosmetic goal is a valid selection criterion. Aesthetic preference is not evidence of superior combat value.

Democratic Detonation: when its lineup makes sense

Democratic Detonation is the clearest match for a player who wants explosives distributed across primary, secondary, and grenade slots. Its documented lineup includes the R-36 Eruptor Rifle, CB-9 Exploding Crossbow, G-123 Thermite Grenade, and GP-31 Grenade Pistol. That spread matters because it lets you change one part of a loadout without abandoning an explosive playstyle.

R-36 Eruptor Rifle

The Eruptor is the reason many players inspect this track first: it is a primary weapon in the Warbond’s explosive lineup. Before buying, decide whether you actually want an explosive primary or whether your current squad already covers that role. A weapon you rarely equip is poor value even if its name is popular.

CB-9 Exploding Crossbow

The crossbow gives the same catalogue a different handling concept. It is relevant if you want an explosive primary but prefer a distinct firing pattern from a rifle. Compare its page position and Medal path with the Eruptor so you know which reward you can reach first.

G-123 Thermite Grenade

Thermite is the track’s documented grenade option. It is a targeted reason to choose the Warbond when your priority is adding a fire- or armor-oriented explosive to the grenade slot rather than replacing your primary weapon.

GP-31 Grenade Pistol

The Grenade Pistol fires impact grenades and works one-handed. PlayStation specifically notes that it can be used with a Ballistic Shield, making it a fit for shield users who want explosive utility without giving up the shield’s handling requirement.

An independent fan directory calls Democratic Detonation the “strongest first paid Warbond default” for broad explosive utility. Treat that as community-backed editorial judgment, not an official tier list, controlled test, or guarantee for every faction, difficulty, balance patch, or skill level.

Cutting Edge and the LAS-16 Sickle decision

Choose Cutting Edge when the problem you are solving is ammunition management for an energy primary, not because it is the newest or most discussed catalogue. PlayStation describes the LAS-16 Sickle as firing rapidly after charging. If you prevent it from overheating, you can avoid the conventional ammunition concerns associated with repeated reloads.

Who benefits from the Sickle’s heat model?

  • Players comfortable firing in bursts and pausing before the heat threshold.
  • Loadouts that value sustained primary fire but can manage cooling windows.
  • Missions where carrying or finding conventional ammunition is inconvenient.

Who should look elsewhere?

  • Players who dislike monitoring heat and routinely overheat energy weapons.
  • Players whose immediate need is anti-tank, area damage, or a one-handed sidearm.
  • Players choosing solely because an energy weapon sounds efficient without testing the handling in their own missions.

The Sickle description establishes a specific resource-management advantage. It does not establish that every reward in Cutting Edge is a better first purchase than the explosive or defensive options in other tracks.

Ironclad Democracy: a targeted alternative

Ironclad Democracy was announced by Arrowhead on September 15, 2026, for deployment on September 22. It is the newest verified track in the material available for this guide. Newness alone is not a reason to buy it; its documented rewards are the reason to inspect it.

GL-15 Evictor

The GL-15 Evictor is described as a pump-action grenade launcher with area-of-effect capability. It suits players who want to shape a fight around grouped enemies and explosive coverage rather than a single-target weapon. Check the in-game page for its exact Medal path before assuming it is an early-page reward.

Surplus EAT Allocation

This support option provides two free EAT uses per mission, according to the official announcement. That is a concrete reason to investigate Ironclad Democracy if your squad repeatedly runs short of anti-tank calls. It is less compelling when another player already supplies the team’s anti-armor needs and your personal gap is ammunition economy or shield utility.

Blunt-Force Mitigation

The armor passive reduces damage taken from impacts and collisions by 30% and increases armor rating. The figure comes from Arrowhead’s official announcement. It addresses a particular source of incoming damage; it is not a blanket reduction against every attack type.

Integrated Extinguishers Booster

This booster reduces the time needed to extinguish fire. Consider it when fire hazards are a recurring mission problem or when your squad values faster recovery after an ignition event. A fire-focused booster should not be treated as a substitute for learning fire avoidance and positioning.

How to choose when you want only one item

Sometimes the right answer is not “Which catalogue is strongest?” but “Which catalogue contains the item I will equip?” Use this checklist:

  • Open the reward page and confirm the item’s exact name.
  • Record the page and Medal requirement shown in your client.
  • Check whether you already have a weapon or booster covering the same slot.
  • Consider your usual faction, mission type, difficulty, and squad role.
  • Estimate how often the item will replace something in your active loadouts.
  • Buy access only when the item’s practical use justifies the SC and Medal time.

This method favors a specific fit over a generalized “meta” claim. It also prevents buying a Warbond for a reward that is several pages away when another track solves today’s problem immediately.

Examples for common new-player situations

“I do not know my role yet.”

Stay with Helldivers Mobilize! and experiment. Try different mission types and note whether you run out of ammunition, lack crowd control, need anti-tank support, or struggle with environmental damage. Because Premium Warbonds persist, uncertainty has no expiration penalty.

“I want one broad explosive loadout.”

Inspect Democratic Detonation first. Its documented rifle, crossbow, thermite grenade, and grenade pistol cover multiple slots. Buy it only after confirming that those items match how you play; the broad-utility recommendation is editorial and community-backed, not an official guarantee.

“My squad needs more anti-tank capacity.”

Inspect Ironclad Democracy for Surplus EAT Allocation and compare the Medal path to the point at which your squad needs the extra calls. If another player reliably handles anti-armor, spend SC on a personal gap instead.

“I use a Ballistic Shield.”

Look at the GP-31 Grenade Pistol in Democratic Detonation. Its one-handed operation and impact grenades are directly relevant to a shield loadout.

“I hate running out of primary ammunition.”

Read the LAS-16 Sickle description in Cutting Edge and decide whether you can manage overheating. The benefit depends on heat control, so the item is a poor fit if you consistently hold the trigger until the weapon overheats.

Common purchasing mistakes and fixes

Mistake: treating an unofficial recommendation as a tier list

Fix: label the Democratic Detonation suggestion correctly: it is a community-backed editorial default for broad explosive utility. No official source establishes a universal first-place Warbond.

Mistake: confusing SC with Medals

Fix: use SC to unlock catalogue access and Medals to claim rewards. Plan for both costs before you commit.

Mistake: buying because a track is new

Fix: evaluate Ironclad Democracy by the Evictor, EAT support, impact passive, or fire booster you actually want. Release date does not establish superiority.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mistake: assuming a catalogue expires

Fix: Warbonds remain available after unlock, and Medals can be directed to multiple active tracks. Defer a purchase when your goal is undefined.

Mistake: using a price remembered from another region or date

Fix: verify the SC amount in the current Acquisition Center. The 1,000-SC Premium and 1,500-SC Legendary figures are directory listings checked September 6, 2026, not guaranteed real-money regional prices.

Mistake: declaring a weapon universally best

Fix: describe the fit you can support: heat-managed ammunition economy, shield-compatible explosive utility, area damage, anti-tank calls, impact protection, or fire recovery. Official descriptions establish features, not a controlled cross-track performance ranking.

What “best first Warbond” can and cannot mean

“Best” is meaningful only after you specify the job. A player seeking explosive tools may rationally choose Democratic Detonation; an energy-primary user may prefer the Sickle’s heat model; a squad short on anti-tank calls may value Ironclad Democracy; and a cosmetic collector may choose the catalogue with the desired armor or theme. These are different optimization problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The available official material describes access rules and item contents, but it does not prove which Warbond is strongest across factions, difficulties, balance versions, and player skill. There is no established adoption rate, win-rate study, or controlled comparison that would justify an objective universal ranking. Make the purchase against your own missing capability, then use the persistent catalogue system to progress at your own pace.
