Choose sealant only after confirming that your exact tire and rim are approved for tubeless use and checking their pressure limits. Then follow the tire maker’s sealant instructions if it provides them; otherwise, compare products by road-tire dosage, application method, valve compatibility, maintenance schedule, and the conditions behind any puncture claims. No sealant is guaranteed to seal every puncture at road pressure.
Check tire and rim compatibility first
Confirm that the exact tire and wheel or rim are approved for tubeless use. Schwalbe advises using only wheels whose manufacturer approves them for tubeless use. Also check the maximum pressure for both components: the lower applicable tire or rim limit is the limit for the setup. Do not exceed it. See Schwalbe’s tubeless guidance.

Follow the tire maker’s sealant instructions
A tire-specific requirement takes priority over a general dose recommendation. For initial fitting of Schwalbe Pro One and Pro One TT Tubeless Easy, Schwalbe specifies Doc Blue, at least 30 ml and preferably 60 ml per tire, followed by at least 25 km of riding to distribute the sealant. Schwalbe warns that sealing cannot be guaranteed if the initial fitting instructions are not followed. Check the Pro One instructions for the exact tire and setup.
Choose an amount for the actual tire
There is no single dose for every road tubeless tire. Manufacturer recommendations differ, so use the tire or sealant maker’s instructions for your particular width, volume, and casing.
#1 Best Overall
- The world’s first tubeless sealant and the first choice of riders today
- Recommended for all-around use, compatible with all tubeless road, gravel, and mountain bike tires
- Seals punctures up to 6.5mm (¼”)
- Compatible with valve installation using Stan’s Tubeless Sealant Injector
- Remains liquid inside tires for 2-7 months for long-lasting protection)
| Guidance | Amount | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Stan’s NoTubes | 2 ounces (60 ml) | Road and cyclocross tires, according to its sealant support page. |
| Schwalbe | 60–90 ml | Its broader guidance for tires 23–60 mm wide; see Schwalbe’s tubeless FAQ. |
| Schwalbe Doc Blue | At least 30 ml; preferably 60 ml | Initial fitting of Pro One and Pro One TT Tubeless Easy; follow with at least 25 km of riding, per the product instructions. |
These are maker recommendations, not directly comparable universal doses. A tire’s own fitting instructions control where they specify a product or amount. Porous casings may need more sealant, but any increase should remain within the relevant product instructions.
Compare application method, valves, and upkeep
Before buying, check whether the formula can be poured through the bead or injected through the valve, whether your valve has a removable core, and what inspection or replenishment schedule applies to that exact formula. Fibers and valve design can make injection unsuitable. Use an injector only when the sealant and valve makers’ instructions support that method.

- Long-lasting latex formula provides superior durability, staying effective for 2-3 times longer than standard sealants to minimize maintenance and downtime. 60-120 days between top-offs.
- Contains advanced nanite particles engineered to rapidly seal punctures up to 1/4" and slices up to 1/2", ensuring reliable performance across a variety of trail and road conditions.
- Developed with eco-friendly, biodegradable ingredients, this sealant offers an environmentally conscious choice without sacrificing sealing performance or safety.
- Optimized for performance in varying temperatures and riding environments, making it an ideal choice for endurance cycling, mountain biking, and gravel adventures.
- Compatible with all major tubeless-ready and UST tire brands and engineered to work across a wide range of rubber compounds. Orange Seal adheres to the tire casing seal punctures to effectively without causing delamination, breakdown, or damage to the rubber, maintaining the integrity and performance of the tire over time.
Stan’s NoTubes
Stan’s says its sealant can be used in tubeless applications including UST, while advising users to follow tire and rim maker guidance. Its road and cyclocross starting recommendation is 60 ml. See Stan’s sealant support and its tubeless guide.

For the named Pro One tire models, Schwalbe specifies Doc Blue during initial assembly, with the amount and post-fitting ride described above. Treat this as a model-specific requirement, not a general endorsement for every road tire.

SILCA Ultimate Tubeless Sealant
SILCA describes its current Ultimate formula as an injectable natural and synthetic latex blend. The manufacturer says it works through most valves, especially those with removable cores, but is not compatible with Reserve Fillmore valves. SILCA reports testing the formula to seal punctures up to 6 mm; that is a manufacturer claim, not a neutral comparative test or guarantee. It also states a 6+ month life and recommends reinstalling every six months. See the current product page.
Check the bottle and current directions before servicing SILCA sealant: the installation instructions describe an older FiberFoam routine with replenishment every three months and a full cleanout after a year. Those directions should not be combined with the current injectable formula’s six-month schedule. SILCA also warns not to mix the current formula with its previous version.

Interpret puncture claims realistically
A large maximum-puncture figure does not predict what will happen in every tire at every pressure. SILCA says sealing depends on tire thread count, puncture shape, and cause. A cut or burst can exceed a sealant’s ability. Stan’s also provides a tubeless guide, but the cited manufacturer material does not establish an independent, apples-to-apples comparison of these products under the same tires, pressures, punctures, and test conditions.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- FAST FIX: Quickly seals punctures up to 6.5mm (1/4")
- VERSATILE PERFORMANCE: Reccomended for all around use, compatible with road, gravel, and mountain
- LONG LASTING: Remains liquid inside tires for 2-7 months, for long term protection
- EASY INSTALL: Can be installed through the valve, when used with Stan's Tubeless Sealant Injector
- THE ORIGINAL SOLUTION: The world’s first tubeless sealant and the first choice of riders today
- Check whether a claimed result is a manufacturer statement or an independent test.
- Look for the tire, pressure, puncture geometry, and test conditions behind a performance figure.
- Do not treat a sealant claim as a promise that a puncture will seal while riding.
A practical selection checklist
- Identify the exact tire and rim or wheel model, confirm tubeless approval, and check both pressure limits.
- Find the tire maker’s fitting instructions, including any named sealant and required amount.
- If no specific instruction controls, compare products’ road-use guidance and dose for your tire’s width and volume.
- Confirm how the sealant is installed and whether your valve and injector are compatible.
- Follow the maintenance schedule for the exact formula and generation; do not transfer instructions from an older formula.
- Evaluate puncture claims by their stated conditions and limitations, not just their headline size.
