How to choose the smallest Samsung Galaxy phone that still meets your needs

For a conventional, non-folding Galaxy, choose the Galaxy S25: it measures 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm and weighs 162 g, making it shorter, narrower and lighter than the newer Galaxy S26. Choose the S26 instead if its 4,300 mAh battery and newer generation matter more than saving a few millimetres and grams. If your definition of small is the shortest object in a pocket, the Galaxy Z Flip7 folds to 85.5 mm tall, but it is 13.7 mm thick when closed, weighs 188 g and uses a foldable design. Those are three different compromises, so compare body dimensions, weight, usable screen and battery—not screen diagonal alone.

Start with the right definition of “small”

“Smallest Samsung Galaxy” can mean at least three things:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Smallest conventional handset: a single rigid body that works like a normal smartphone. In Samsung’s direct S25/S26 comparison, that is the Galaxy S25.
  • Smallest pocket height when closed: a phone that folds in half. The Galaxy Z Flip7 is dramatically shorter in a pocket, but it is thicker and heavier than either slab-style phone.
  • Smallest practical footprint for your hand: the combination of height, width, thickness and weight that you can reach and hold comfortably. A display’s diagonal measurement does not answer this by itself.

The recommendations in this guide use Samsung’s published dimensions and capacities checked in 2026. Samsung says models and configurations can vary by country, so verify the local specification before ordering.

Galaxy S25, Galaxy S26 and Galaxy Z Flip7 compared

Model Body dimensions and weight Display information Battery and what it means
Galaxy S25 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm; 162 g 6.2-inch display 4,000 mAh typical capacity; smallest standard option in Samsung’s direct S25/S26 comparison
Galaxy S26 149.6 × 71.7 × 7.2 mm; 167 g 6.3-inch full rectangle; 6.1 inches when accounting for rounded corners 4,300 mAh typical capacity; newer model with 300 mAh more listed capacity than S25
Galaxy Z Flip7 Folded: 85.5 × 75.2 × 13.7 mm; unfolded: 166.7 × 75.2 × 6.5 mm; 188 g 6.9-inch main display; 4.1-inch cover display 4,300 mAh typical capacity; Samsung claims up to 31 hours of video playback

The S25 is 2.7 mm shorter, 1.2 mm narrower and 5 g lighter than the S26. Both are 7.2 mm thick. Those are modest differences on paper, but width and weight are noticeable when you reach across the screen or carry the phone all day. The S26 gives up that small size advantage for a larger listed battery and a 6.3-inch full-rectangle display.

The Flip7’s 85.5 mm folded height is not directly comparable to the height of an unfolded slab phone. Closed, it is 13.7 mm thick—almost twice the thickness of the S25 or S26—and its 188 g weight is higher than either. Open, it becomes 166.7 mm tall with a 6.9-inch main display. Treat it as a pocketability alternative, not as a smaller conventional handset.

What the measurements tell you in daily use

Height controls reach and pocket length

Phone height affects how far your thumb must travel to reach the top of the interface and how much space the device occupies in a trouser pocket. The S25’s 146.9 mm height gives it the smallest vertical reach among the two slab phones. The S26 adds 2.7 mm, while the Flip7 is only 85.5 mm tall when folded but much taller than either slab when open.

Width usually matters more for one-handed use

The S25 is 70.5 mm wide and the S26 is 71.7 mm. A 1.2 mm difference sounds tiny, yet width determines whether your thumb can reach an icon near the opposite edge without shifting your grip. The Flip7 is 75.2 mm wide both folded and unfolded, so it is wider than either S-series phone even when closed.

Thickness changes grip and pocket feel

At 7.2 mm, the S25 and S26 have the same listed thickness. The Flip7 measures 13.7 mm folded and 6.5 mm unfolded. The closed thickness is the price of fitting a large screen into a short package; it can feel more substantial in a tight pocket and may require a different case or pocket orientation.

Weight affects long sessions

The S25 weighs 162 g, the S26 167 g and the Flip7 188 g. Weight is only one part of comfort, because balance and thickness change how a phone feels, but it is a useful filter if you read one-handed, walk with the phone in a jacket pocket or dislike a heavy device mounted on a car holder.

Screen diagonal is not the same as usable size

Samsung lists the S26 as 6.3 inches measured across the full rectangle and 6.1 inches when the rounded corners are accounted for. That distinction explains why a quoted diagonal can look larger than the actual usable rectangular area. The S25 is listed at 6.2 inches. The Flip7 has a 6.9-inch main display, but that large screen is available only when the phone is open; the 4.1-inch cover display is the closed-phone interface.

Choose the Galaxy S25 when minimum slab size is the priority

The Galaxy S25 is the straightforward answer for someone who wants a normal, non-folding Galaxy and places the highest value on compact dimensions. Its 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm body is smaller in every footprint direction than the S26 except thickness, and its 162 g weight is the lowest of the three models in the comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its 6.2-inch display remains large enough for ordinary phone tasks, while the body is easier to fit into a pocket, small bag or one-handed grip than the S26. The 4,000 mAh typical battery is the trade-off: Samsung lists 300 mAh less capacity than the S26. Capacity alone does not predict exact runtime, because screen brightness, network conditions, apps and temperature all affect consumption, but the specification establishes the S26’s larger reserve.

  • FIT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT: Group selfies are easier on your Samsung phone with a wider front camera⁴ that captures more of the scene, so no one gets left out of the moment

The S25 is a good fit if you:

  • want a rigid phone with familiar smartphone handling rather than a hinge;
  • care about the shortest and lightest body in the direct S25/S26 comparison;
  • regularly use the phone one-handed and find wider bodies uncomfortable;
  • are willing to accept the lower listed battery capacity to save 2.7 mm in height, 1.2 mm in width and 5 g in weight.

Check before buying

Confirm that the local S25 variant has the storage, memory, network bands and colour you need. Samsung’s specifications and availability can differ by market and carrier. A case adds both width and thickness, so a phone that barely fits a pocket without a case may not fit after protection is installed. If you buy a case, verify that it is made for the exact S25 model rather than a similarly named Galaxy generation.

Choose the Galaxy S26 when battery capacity outweighs a slightly larger body

The Galaxy S26 is the newer standard-size option in this comparison. At 149.6 × 71.7 × 7.2 mm and 167 g, it is only modestly larger and heavier than the S25, while Samsung lists a 4,300 mAh typical battery. That is 300 mAh more than the S25’s listed 4,000 mAh.

The S26 also has a 6.3-inch full-rectangle display, or 6.1 inches when its rounded corners are included in the measurement. If you want a little more screen area without moving to a large phone category, this is the compromise: nearly the same thickness, but a slightly taller and wider body.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The S26 is a good fit if you:

  • prefer the newer generation and do not mind 2.7 mm of extra height, 1.2 mm of extra width and 5 g of extra weight;
  • set a higher battery-capacity floor than 4,000 mAh;
  • read, navigate or watch content often enough to value the 6.3-inch full-rectangle display;
  • want a conventional, non-folding phone with the larger battery listed by Samsung in this comparison.

Do not overread the capacity number

A 4,300 mAh rating does not guarantee a particular number of hours. Samsung’s listed figure is a typical capacity, not a promise that every user will get the same endurance. The actual result depends on mobile signal, refresh and brightness settings, camera use, gaming, background synchronization and ambient temperature. Use the capacity as a selection threshold, then judge your own charging habits separately.

Choose the Galaxy Z Flip7 only if folded pocketability justifies a foldable

The Galaxy Z Flip7 solves a different problem. Folded, it is 85.5 mm tall—far shorter than either S25 or S26—so it can leave more vertical room in a pocket or small bag. Its 4.1-inch cover display lets you handle the closed phone, while opening it exposes a 6.9-inch main screen.

The cost of that short folded shape is a 75.2 mm width, 13.7 mm closed thickness and 188 g weight. The phone also relies on a hinge and folding display, so it is not simply a smaller S-series handset. When unfolded, it measures 166.7 × 75.2 × 6.5 mm, making it taller and wider than the S25 or S26 during full-screen use.

The Flip7 is a good fit if you:

  • care most about reducing the phone’s height in a pocket;
  • want a large 6.9-inch screen but do not want that full height while carrying the phone closed;
  • are comfortable with a foldable design, hinge and two-screen interaction;
  • accept 188 g and 13.7 mm folded thickness as the cost of that format.

Interpret Samsung’s battery claim correctly

Samsung lists a typical 4,300 mAh battery for the Flip7 and claims up to 31 hours of video playback. The capacity is a battery specification; the playback figure is a manufacturer test claim under stated conditions, not an independent real-world endurance test. Your result can be lower or higher depending on video resolution, brightness, network use and other settings.

Use this decision process before you buy

  1. Decide whether a foldable is acceptable. If you want a conventional rigid handset, remove the Flip7 from consideration and compare the S25 with the S26. If folded height is your overriding concern, keep the Flip7 in the list and evaluate its thickness, width and weight as well.
  2. Set your maximum body width. Use 70.5 mm for the S25, 71.7 mm for the S26 and 75.2 mm for the Flip7 as the published reference points. If your current phone already feels too wide, the S25 is the safer starting point.
  3. Set a battery-capacity floor. Pick at least 4,000 mAh for the S25, 4,300 mAh for the S26, or the Flip7’s 4,300 mAh typical capacity. Remember that these are manufacturer specifications, not identical runtime tests.
  4. Check the usable screen you actually need. The S25 gives a 6.2-inch display, the S26 a 6.3-inch full rectangle, and the Flip7 a 6.9-inch main screen plus a 4.1-inch cover screen. Choose based on whether you read and watch content open or closed.
  5. Account for weight and protection. Add the expected case and any wallet attachment to the listed phone weight and thickness. The published dimensions describe the handset, not your final carry setup.
  6. Verify the local version. Samsung states that models, specifications and availability can vary by country and carrier. Check the local Samsung page and carrier listing immediately before purchase, including storage, memory, network compatibility and warranty terms.
  7. Make the final trade-off explicit. Choose S25 for the smallest standard body, S26 for a slightly larger body with more listed battery capacity, or Flip7 for the shortest folded package with foldable compromises.

Match each model to common use cases

Your priority Most suitable starting point Reason
Smallest conventional body Galaxy S25 Shortest, narrowest and lightest of the S25/S26 comparison: 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm and 162 g
More listed battery capacity in a slab phone Galaxy S26 4,300 mAh typical capacity versus 4,000 mAh for S25
Shortest closed phone Galaxy Z Flip7 85.5 mm folded height, with 13.7 mm folded thickness and 188 g weight
Largest screen in this comparison Galaxy Z Flip7 6.9-inch main display when unfolded
Same listed thickness between standard models Galaxy S25 or S26 Both are specified at 7.2 mm

Pitfalls that lead to the wrong “smallest” choice

Comparing only diagonal inches

A smaller diagonal does not automatically mean a smaller phone. Body height and width determine reach and pocket fit, while rounded corners mean full-rectangle and usable display measurements can differ. Compare the complete dimensions before deciding.

Calling the Flip7 a small slab phone

Its folded height is short, but its closed thickness and weight are greater. It is compact in one dimension and substantial in two others. Describe it as a foldable pocketability option rather than the smallest conventional Galaxy.

Treating battery capacity as guaranteed runtime

The S26 and Flip7 both list 4,300 mAh, but that does not establish identical endurance. The Flip7’s “up to 31 hours” video figure is a Samsung claim under test conditions, not a comparative independent measurement.

Ignoring rounded-corner measurement conventions

Samsung’s S26 listing gives both 6.3 inches for the full rectangle and 6.1 inches accounting for rounded corners. When comparing phones, make sure each quoted screen figure uses the same convention.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assuming every market has the same configuration

Samsung’s pages are market-specific. A carrier version may differ in available storage, memory, colour, network support or purchase date. Confirm the exact local model instead of relying on a specification copied from another country.

A practical pre-purchase checklist

  • Write down whether “small” means shortest height, narrowest grip, lightest weight or smallest pocket volume.
  • Measure your current case or pocket opening and compare it with the phone’s width and thickness.
  • Decide whether 4,000 mAh is sufficient for your charging routine or whether the S26/Flip7’s 4,300 mAh listing is a better floor.
  • For the Flip7, test whether a 13.7 mm closed device feels comfortable in the pocket you use most.
  • For one-handed use, pay closer attention to width than to diagonal screen size.
  • Check the local Samsung and carrier listings for the exact model, storage, memory, bands and warranty.
  • Include the case in your final size decision and verify exact model compatibility before ordering one.

Bottom line

The Galaxy S25 is the best answer when you want the smallest ordinary Samsung Galaxy phone covered by the direct comparison: 146.9 × 70.5 × 7.2 mm and 162 g. The Galaxy S26 is only slightly larger but lists a 4,300 mAh battery instead of 4,000 mAh, making it the sensible choice when battery reserve and the newer generation outrank minimum dimensions. The Galaxy Z Flip7 is the shortest phone when folded, but its 13.7 mm thickness, 188 g weight and foldable construction make it a different category. Choose the model whose compromise matches your hand, pocket and charging habits, then confirm the local variant because Samsung’s availability and specifications are country-specific.
