Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchChoose a USB-C charger by checking the recommended wattage and charging protocol for your exact device model, then selecting a reputable, compliant USB-C Power Delivery (USB PD) charger that meets those requirements. A charger’s wattage is its maximum output, not power it forces into a device: with USB PD, the device negotiates what it can use. A larger wattage rating alone does not guarantee faster charging.
Start with your exact device model
There is no single correct wattage for every phone, tablet, or laptop. Recommendations vary by model and generation, so check the device maker’s official specifications or support page rather than choosing by product category.

For a Mac, Apple’s model-specific examples include 20W for MacBook Neo; 30W, 35W, 67W, or 70W options for some MacBook Air models; 67W, 70W, or 96W options for some 14-inch MacBook Pro models; and 140W for specified 16-inch MacBook Pro models. These are examples, not interchangeable recommendations for every Mac. See Apple’s Mac power-adapter guidance and confirm the entry for your exact model.
For Pixel phones, Google says users may use other USB PD adapters rated at 15W or greater, or PPS adapters rated at 30W or greater. Selected newer Pixel phones support charging at 30W or more; that does not mean every Pixel reaches that rate. Check Google’s Pixel charging guidance for your model.

Match both wattage and charging protocol
USB PD allows a compatible charger and device to negotiate power. USB-IF describes the standard as allowing low-power devices to request only the power they need. Apple likewise says a USB-C-charging Mac can use an adapter with higher or lower wattage than its recommendation. A higher-rated, compliant USB PD charger can therefore serve a lower-demand device; the device sets its own charging ceiling.
That does not mean any charger with a USB-C-shaped port will deliver the expected charging behavior. Check whether your device requires USB PD, Programmable Power Supply (PPS), or another specified mode for its faster charging options. Google, for example, recommends PPS at 30W or greater as one option for Pixel phones. Confirm protocol support for your exact model in its official documentation.

USB PD Revision 3.1 supports up to 240W over a full-featured USB Type-C cable and connector, according to the USB Implementers Forum. That is a standard capability ceiling, not a recommendation that a phone needs a 240W charger.
Check the cable and connection path
The cable can limit the power delivered. Google says Pixel phones charge more slowly over a USB-A-to-USB-C connection than over USB-C-to-USB-C. For its 67W charger, Google specifies a certified E-Marker cable for a device that needs more than 60W; with a standard cable, the limit is 60W. Consult the charger’s specifications and use a cable rated for the power your device and charger are meant to deliver.

For a Mac, Apple says you can check the connected adapter’s wattage in System Information > Power. This can help identify what an adapter is providing, but it does not replace checking the recommended adapter for the Mac model.
For multiport chargers, read the power-allocation details
The largest wattage on a multiport charger’s packaging may apply only when one device is connected. Google’s Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W charger illustrates why the per-port and combined figures matter:

| One device connected | Up to 67W on either port |
| Two devices connected | Up to 60W per port and up to 67.5W combined |
Google says the charger prioritizes Pixel devices. Figures are specific to that charger; check the allocation chart for any model you are considering, because connecting another device can change the output available to the first.

Account for charging conditions
Even with a suitable charger, actual speed varies. Google lists use while charging, battery age, ambient temperature, and connected devices as factors. Some Pixel phones also adjust charging to manage battery and device temperatures. A high wattage rating is not a promise of a fixed charging time.
Best Value
- Fast charging: 65-watt USB Power Delivery PD 3.0 for high-speed charging of compatible devices, like iPhone, iPad Pro, Samsung Galaxy, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and more
- GaN technology: GaN components waste less power and produce less heat (compared to silicon), which results in a more efficient charge
- Compact size: small but powerful thanks to innovative GaN technology; design includes a foldable plug for travel-friendly portability
- Safety features: integrated over-voltage, overheating, and short-circuit protection to keep connected devices safe
- No PPS support: Charging for Samsung / Google Pixel phones is limited at 9V max. and will NOT achieve Super Fast Charging speeds.
Google’s guidance identifies battery age and temperature as factors affecting speed, but does not establish a universal charger-wattage threshold for maximum battery longevity or quantify battery wear by charger wattage. Do not assume that buying a lower-wattage charger will, by itself, extend battery life.
Quick Recap
A practical charger-selection checklist
- Identify the exact model. Find the manufacturer’s official specifications or support page for your phone, tablet, or laptop.
- Match the recommended output. Choose a reputable USB PD charger that meets the device’s stated wattage recommendation; do not treat a category-wide figure as a model-specific requirement.
- Verify the protocol. Confirm USB PD, PPS, or any other protocol your device requires for its supported charging modes.
- Check the cable. Confirm its rating and connection type, including whether an E-Marker cable is required for the intended power level.
- Inspect multiport allocation. Compare the output on the port you will use with the charger’s combined output when other devices are connected.
- Use compliant, undamaged equipment. Check that the charger and cable meet applicable safety requirements for your region.
