For a first Strike Gundam build, choose Bandai’s ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam. Bandai Hobby’s 2023 overseas Gunpla guide calls ENTRY GRADE “The best choice for your first experience” and “Easy assembly!” The guide specifically uses Strike Gundam as an ENTRY GRADE example.
More experienced builders should compare the exact High Grade (HG), Real Grade (RG), Master Grade (MG), or Perfect Grade (PG) kit rather than treating a grade name as a guaranteed difficulty score. Grade labels mainly signal scale, detail priorities, internal construction, and approximate part volume. Your best choice depends on how much assembly you want, the display space you have, and which Strike configuration and accessories are actually included in the box.

The fastest way to choose
Match your experience and project goal to the following starting points:
- First kit or least complicated build: ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam.
- A few completed kits and a straightforward display model: Compare an HG Strike kit, checking its specific instructions and parts before buying.
- A few completed kits and a preference for dense mechanical detail: Compare an RG Strike kit. Its pre-built inner-frame approach and emphasis on texture and movement make the assembly more involved.
- Want a larger model with internal detail and mechanisms: Consider MG at 1:100 scale.
- Experienced builder seeking a large centerpiece: Consider PG, but verify the individual kit’s instructions, parts, and the space required for a roughly 30 cm model.
These are practical starting recommendations, not an official skill test. Bandai’s guide describes each line but does not publish a standardized difficulty rating.

What Gunpla grades actually tell you
Grade names are useful shorthand, but they do not make every Strike kit in a category identical. Bandai’s guide provides line-level descriptions, scales, heights, and approximate example parts counts. The figures below are guide examples from Bandai Hobby’s 2023 overseas material, not guaranteed specifications for every current Strike Gundam SKU.
| Grade | Bandai’s line description | Guide example scale and size | Guide example parts | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ENTRY GRADE | Beginner-oriented; “The best choice for your first experience” and “Easy assembly!” | 1:144; about 12 cm | About 74 parts — Bandai Hobby, 2023 | A first build or a quick, low-stress Strike display |
| HG (High Grade) | “A vast lineup of collectables” with easy-to-assemble kits | 1:144; about 13 cm | About 150 parts — Bandai Hobby, 2023 | A next step when you want more parts or a particular Strike release |
| RG (Real Grade) | Mechanical texture, movement, and a pre-built inner frame | 1:144; about 13 cm | About 250 parts — Bandai Hobby, 2023 | Builders who value dense detail and a more involved 1:144 build |
| MG (Master Grade) | Precise details and gimmicks in a larger scale, with inner details and movement | 1:100; about 18 cm | About 260 parts — Bandai Hobby, 2023 | A larger display model and a longer, mechanism-focused project |
| PG (Perfect Grade) | “The ultimate form of GUNPLA” | 1:60; about 30 cm | About 510 parts — Bandai Hobby, 2023 | Experienced builders wanting a large, elaborate centerpiece |
Part counts are not a difficulty score. A kit’s engineering, small-part handling, articulation, and instruction layout can matter as much as the total number. Use the table to identify the type of project you want, then inspect the exact product manual or listing.
Step 1: Decide what kind of build you want
A quick first experience
If your priority is learning how a modern snap-fit model goes together without committing to a large project, ENTRY GRADE is the evidence-backed choice. Bandai positions it specifically for a first experience, and the 1/144 Strike Gundam gives you the character you want at a compact size. This is the sensible default when you have never built a Gunpla kit, are buying for a younger or inexperienced builder, or simply want a straightforward weekend project.

HG is a broad 1:144 family rather than one fixed complexity level. It is appropriate when you want to choose among more Strike variants or prefer a conventional HG assembly experience. Because the HG catalog is broad, compare the exact kit’s manual, runner count, accessories, and configuration instead of assuming that every HG Strike is equally easy.
A mechanical project in a compact footprint
RG keeps the 1:144 footprint but increases the focus on mechanical texture, movement, and inner construction. Bandai’s guide describes a pre-built inner frame and a more detailed design language. Choose RG when you are comfortable following dense instructions and handling more small parts, and when you want a highly detailed model without moving to the 1:100 size of MG.
A larger display model
MG moves to 1:100 scale and about 18 cm in the guide’s line example. Its appeal is not just size: Bandai highlights precise details, gimmicks, internal detail, and movement. It suits a builder who wants to spend more time on a display piece and has a shelf that can accommodate the finished model.
An ambitious centerpiece
PG is Bandai’s top-tier line, described in the guide as “The ultimate form of GUNPLA.” The guide’s example is about 30 cm and about 510 parts. That size and part volume create a substantially larger commitment than ENTRY GRADE, HG, or RG. PG makes sense when you already know that you enjoy long, detail-heavy builds and have a stable display location.

Step 2: Choose the scale before the package
Scale determines how large the finished Strike will feel and how much shelf depth it may need. ENTRY GRADE, HG, and RG are all 1:144 in Bandai’s guide, with example heights of about 12–13 cm. That makes them easy to group on a shelf and lets you compare different 1:144 models without giving up much space.
MG is 1:100 with an example height of about 18 cm. A display case that fits a 1:144 Strike may not comfortably fit an MG, especially when the pose or equipment extends beyond the body. PG is 1:60 and about 30 cm in the guide example, so measure both height and depth before ordering. These dimensions are approximate line figures, not guarantees for every Strike release.
Step 3: Verify the exact Strike configuration
“Strike Gundam” does not identify one universal box. Bandai’s manual search lists a standard ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam, a Lite Package variant, and an ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam Ukiyo-e Package version released on 2026-08-29. The same official search corpus includes RG and PG Strike models and expansion sets for particular configurations.
Those names refer to different packages or builds. Do not assume that an expansion pack, alternate equipment, or display accessory is included with the basic ENTRY GRADE kit. Before paying, check the product listing and the matching manual for:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The complete product name and grade.
- The scale, such as 1/144 or 1/100.
- Which armor, weapons, packs, and hands are in the box.
- Whether the listing is a Lite Package or another special package.
- Whether an advertised expansion is a separate product.
- The language and region of the listing if you are importing.
The standard ENTRY GRADE Strike Gundam entry in Bandai’s manual search gives a release date of 2022-01-15. Its Lite Package entry is listed with a 2021-12-17 release date. The Ukiyo-e Package entry is listed with a 2026-08-29 release date. A release date confirms that a catalog entry exists; it does not confirm current stock, regional availability, or price.
ENTRY GRADE: why it is the default beginner recommendation
ENTRY GRADE is the only line in the cited guide that Bandai explicitly labels both as a first-experience choice and as easy assembly. That makes the ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam the strongest supported answer to “What is the best Strike Gundam kit for beginners?”
Its guide example is about 12 cm and about 74 parts. Those numbers suggest a compact project, but they are approximate line-level figures. Your particular Strike package may differ. Use the number as a rough comparison with the guide’s HG, RG, MG, and PG examples, not as a promise about the contents of a current box.

The Lite Package is a separate catalog entry, not automatically an accessory bundle for the standard kit. If you want a particular equipment loadout, confirm it in the package description and manual. A beginner should choose the standard package only after checking that it contains the version they actually want to build.

HG or RG: the decision for an advancing builder
Choose HG when simplicity and variety matter more
Bandai describes HG as a broad collectible lineup of easy-to-assemble kits. HG’s guide example is 1:144, about 13 cm, and about 150 parts. That makes it a natural next step after ENTRY GRADE when you want a different Strike configuration, additional design features, or a more substantial assembly without changing to a larger scale.
Because HG covers many releases, use the individual kit’s manual as your final check. Look for the number and type of runners, any unusual transformation or articulation steps, and the accessories shown in the official product information. The grade label alone cannot tell you whether a particular HG is the best match for your patience and experience.
Choose RG when detail and mechanisms are the point
RG’s guide example is also 1:144 and about 13 cm, but it rises to about 250 parts. Bandai emphasizes mechanical texture, movement, and a pre-built inner frame. That combination can deliver a much denser visual result in the same display footprint as HG, while requiring more careful assembly.
RG is a good fit if you enjoy reading instructions closely, sorting small parts, and taking time to understand an inner structure. It is not automatically “hard” in a formal sense—the guide does not publish a universal difficulty score—but its design priorities make it a more involved project than the beginner-oriented ENTRY GRADE description.

Use the exact manual to break a tie
If you are choosing between a specific HG and RG Strike, open both manuals or official instruction previews when available. Compare the number of assembly stages, the inner-frame work, the amount of small mechanical detail, and the equipment included. That direct comparison is more reliable than assuming every RG is harder than every HG.
MG or PG: selecting a large project
MG for scale, detail, and manageable display size
MG’s 1:100 scale and about 18 cm guide example provide a visible jump from 1:144 kits without reaching PG’s 30 cm footprint. Bandai highlights precise details, gimmicks, internal details, and movement. MG is therefore appropriate when you want a model that rewards a longer build and displays more presence than an HG or RG.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Before choosing MG, confirm that your shelf or case has room for the finished height, pose, and equipment. The guide’s 260-part figure is approximate and applies to the line example, not necessarily to a specific Strike product. A kit with an elaborate configuration may require more space than the body height suggests.
PG only when the project itself is the goal
PG’s guide example is about 30 cm and about 510 parts. That scale, part volume, and Bandai’s “ultimate form of GUNPLA” positioning make it a commitment rather than a casual first purchase. Select PG when you have prior building experience, enjoy extended sessions, and can protect a large finished model from knocks and dust.

The grade gives you a broad expectation of size and detail, but it does not replace the kit-specific information needed to judge the project’s actual construction.
Tools, stands, paint, and expansion parts
The available evidence does not establish a universal tool list for every Strike kit. Do not treat nippers, a display stand, paint, or expansion parts as mandatory purchases simply because they are commonly associated with model building.
If the chosen manual indicates that a model-kit nipper will help remove parts from runners, buy one appropriate to that task; otherwise, consult the kit instructions before adding tools. A stand may be useful for a particular pose or equipment loadout, but it is not established as a requirement for every ENTRY GRADE, HG, RG, MG, or PG Strike. Paint is likewise an optional finishing choice unless the specific instructions or your intended finish call for it.
Bandai’s manual search lists Strike-related expansion sets. These are configuration-specific add-ons, not required components of the basic beginner recommendation. Confirm compatibility with the exact grade and release before purchasing an expansion.

- Write down your goal. Decide whether you want the easiest first experience, a detailed 1:144 model, a larger display piece, or an elaborate centerpiece.
- Set a physical limit. Use the guide’s approximate heights—about 12–13 cm for 1:144, about 18 cm for MG, and about 30 cm for PG—to check your shelf or case.
- Pick a grade family. Start with ENTRY GRADE for a first build; compare HG and RG for 1:144 detail choices; consider MG or PG only when the larger project suits your experience and space.
- Identify the exact package. Record the full name, grade, scale, and configuration. Do not rely on a seller’s shortened “Strike Gundam” title.
- Read the matching manual. Check the assembly sequence, inner-frame work, small-part density, and any special mechanisms.
- Confirm contents. Verify weapons, packs, hands, stands, and other accessories. Treat expansion sets as separate unless the listing explicitly includes them.
- Check regional details. Release dates in Bandai’s manual search do not guarantee stock, price, or identical box contents in your country.
- Buy only after the trade-off is clear. A more detailed grade is worthwhile only if you want the additional assembly and have somewhere to display it.
Common selection mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming a grade is a universal difficulty rating
Bandai’s guide presents line characteristics, not a standardized skill score. Avoid statements such as “all HG kits are easy” or “all RG kits are difficult.” Use the exact manual and package details to estimate the work.

Comparing part counts as if they were exact specifications
The guide’s figures—about 74 ENTRY GRADE parts, about 150 HG, about 250 RG, about 260 MG, and about 510 PG—are approximate examples for each line. They should not be copied into a product listing as the exact count for every Strike SKU.
Buying the wrong configuration
Standard, Lite Package, Ukiyo-e Package, RG, PG, and expansion entries are not interchangeable descriptions. Match the product title to the manual and confirm what equipment is actually shown as included.
Ignoring display space
A 1:144 model may fit where an MG or PG cannot. Measure the shelf before choosing a larger scale, and leave room for the pose and any equipment that extends beyond the body.
Adding accessories before checking the instructions
Expansion packs and tools can be useful, but the available information does not show that every kit needs them. Start with the manual, then buy only the accessories compatible with your chosen package.
Decision table by builder profile
| Your situation | Best starting comparison | Why | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| No completed Gunpla kits | ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam | Bandai explicitly presents ENTRY GRADE as the first-experience, easy-assembly line. | Standard package contents and whether you want a Lite or special package |
| Completed a few simple kits | HG versus RG at 1:144 | HG favors broad collectible choice; RG emphasizes mechanical texture, movement, and an inner frame. | The exact manual, parts, mechanisms, and included equipment |
| Want a larger model with internal detail | MG 1:100 | Bandai highlights precise details, gimmicks, inner detail, and movement at about 18 cm in the guide example. | Shelf depth, configuration, and the kit-specific construction |
| Experienced builder with ample display space | PG 1:60 | Bandai positions PG as its ultimate line; the guide example is about 30 cm and about 510 parts. | Exact instructions, parts, pose, and display protection |
What the published dates and listings can—and cannot—tell you
Bandai’s manual-search dates are useful for distinguishing catalog entries: the standard ENTRY GRADE Strike Gundam is listed as released on 2022-01-15, the Lite Package on 2021-12-17, and the Ukiyo-e Package on 2026-08-29. They do not establish that a kit is currently in stock, that a seller has the same regional package, or that a price is current.
Availability and pricing change by country and retailer. Treat a listing as trustworthy only when its photos, product name, grade, scale, and manual correspond to one another. If those details conflict, pause the purchase rather than guessing which accessories are included.
Final recommendation
Choose the ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Strike Gundam for a first build or whenever you want the simplest supported route into Strike Gundam. Move to HG when you want a broader 1:144 collectible choice, to RG when mechanical detail and a denser build are the attraction, to MG when you want a larger 1:100 model with internal mechanisms, and to PG when you are deliberately taking on a large centerpiece project.
Whichever grade you select, make the final decision from the exact package and manual. Grade-level descriptions and approximate figures are useful orientation, but the configuration, included accessories, construction steps, and available display space determine whether a particular Strike kit is right for you.
