To choose a size when shopping Nordstrom online, measure your body, compare those measurements with the chart on the exact product page, and read that item’s Fit Tips before ordering. Nordstrom’s charts give body measurements—not garment dimensions—and the company notes that fit specialists may recommend a size above or below the chart result.
How to measure yourself accurately
Use a flexible measuring tape and take measurements over undergarments, not clothing. Nordstrom’s size guide instructs shoppers to keep the tape parallel to the floor.

- Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your bust.
- Waist: Bend to one side to find your natural crease, then measure there.
- Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and rear.
For accuracy, keep the tape level and comfortably snug rather than pulling it tight.
Use the size chart for the specific product
Open the product page and select its Size Chart. Compare your measurements with that chart rather than relying on a size you wear in another brand or item. Nordstrom’s guide explains that chart figures are body measurements, so they are not the garment’s finished dimensions.

Sizes and fit can differ between labels and styles. Treat a chart as a starting point, not a guarantee that two items with the same numbered size will fit alike.
Read the product’s Fit Tips before deciding
Check the item’s Fit Tips alongside its chart. Nordstrom’s guide says fit specialists may recommend ordering a size larger or smaller than the chart indicates, and directs shoppers back to the product page before making a final choice. Apply that advice to the item it accompanies; there is no universal rule to always size up or down.

Check availability and garment-specific measurements
A size appearing in a guide does not mean every product is sold in that size. Confirm the sizes actually offered on the item page.

For pants, consider the measurement that matters to the style as well as your body measurements. Nordstrom defines inseam as the inside seam running from the bottom of the crotch seam to the hem. Check the product details for garment measurements such as inseam, and compare them with a pair of pants that fits you well.

Plan for a return or in-person help if needed
Before ordering, check the return policy for your order and location. Nordstrom lists online and in-store return options, but international orders placed through Borderfree or ESW follow a different process and do not qualify for free returns or merchandise exchanges.
If a fitting would help, Nordstrom lists bra-fitting services and professional alterations on its services page. Availability and the services offered can vary by location, so confirm with your local store.
