Choose FlexStyle settings by attachment, not by a single all-purpose rule. For Shark’s auto-wrap curlers, its guide calls for hair that is 80–90% dry, high heat and high airflow while wrapping, and a 10-second Cool Shot before releasing. For the Curl-Defining Diffuser, Shark recommends medium airflow and low temperature.
What the FlexStyle controls do
Airflow and temperature are separate controls. Airflow has three levels: low, medium, and high. Temperature has four choices: no heat, low, medium, and high. Cool Shot is a separate hold control that sends cool air; it is not another temperature setting. Shark APAC Support’s HD400 FlexStyle Series FAQ describes these controls.

How to use Cool Shot for curls
After the barrel’s heated setting period, hold Cool Shot for the 10 seconds specified in Shark’s curl routine, then release the curl. Shark says Cool Shot helps seal the hair cuticle and lock in the style; that is the manufacturer’s instruction, not a guarantee that a style will last longer for every person. FlexStyle bundles do not all include the same attachments. Shark’s US listing for the HD435 configuration includes two 1.25-inch auto-wrap curlers, an oval brush, a Curl-Defining Diffuser, and a styling concentrator; another Shark listing describes a different attachment configuration. Check the product listing and guide for the model you own before following model-specific steps. Shark’s HD435 product page and Shark’s FlexStyle listing show these configuration differences. Shark states FlexStyle attachments are compatible only with FlexStyle.

Shark says its FlexStyle measures and regulates temperature 1,000 times per second to minimize heat exposure. This is a manufacturer claim from Shark’s product page, not an independent test result, and it does not mean heat damage is impossible. Shark’s product page describes the claim.
