The right mixer-grinder jar is the one your appliance maker assigns to the ingredient and result you need. Use the wet-grinding jar for batters, pastes, purées and other preparations that contain moisture; use the dry-grinding jar for dry spices, rice, sugar and dry chutney ingredients. Then verify the model’s rated capacity, blade, lid, gasket and fit instructions. Jar size alone is not a reliable guide, and parts that look interchangeable may not be compatible across models.
Start with the job, not the jar’s appearance
Mixer-grinder makers often supply more than one jar because each assembly is intended for a different type of work. The most important choice is whether the ingredients and desired result are wet, dry, liquidised or a smaller chutney-style batch. The appliance manual remains the authority because manufacturers can use different jar shapes, blades and capacity ratings for similar tasks.

Wet grinding: batters, pastes and purées
For the Philips HL7610/00 and HL7620/00, Philips Support assigns the wet jar to rice and dal batters, purées, lassi, milk shakes, dry-fruit paste and wet masalas. These examples show the usual pattern: the ingredients either already contain liquid or are intended to become a smooth, moist preparation.

Before starting, check the manual for the permitted quantity and any liquid requirement. A wet jar is not selected simply because it is the larger container; its blade, lid and sealing arrangement are part of the design.

Dry grinding: powders and dry ingredients
For the same two Philips models, the dry jar is listed for dry rice, dry masalas, chutneys in larger quantities and sugar. Dry grinding is therefore the appropriate starting point for ingredients that should remain powdery or be reduced without adding liquid.
Dry chutney work can be confusing because “chutney” is not always a single jar category. Philips lists chutneys in larger quantities under the dry jar, while other manufacturers may provide a separate chutney jar. Follow the task label in your own manual rather than transferring Philips’ arrangement to another appliance.
Liquidising and chutney functions may be separate
Orient Electric’s product information distinguishes chutney, dry/wet, liquidising and juicer jars in example configurations. A liquidising jar may therefore be a separate attachment from either grinding jar. If the manual names a liquidising jar for shakes, drinks or other fluid preparations, use that attachment instead of assuming the wet-grinding jar is interchangeable.

Capacity and shape
In Philips’ guidance for HL7610/00 and HL7620/00, the wet jar is described as larger and the dry jar as smaller. That is a model-specific description, not a universal rule. Another manufacturer may use a different size relationship or provide several jars with overlapping capacities.
Lids and gaskets
The same Philips support page says the specified wet jar has a lid gasket and the specified dry jar does not. The gasket detail matters because the lid and sealing system are engineered as part of the jar assembly. Do not remove a gasket from one jar, add one to another or assume that every wet jar must have one; inspect the instructions for the exact model.
Philips’ wording for those two models is: “This jar is bigger and has a gasket in the lid.” It describes the dry jar as: “This jar is smaller and has no gasket in the lid.” Both statements apply only to the HL7610/00 and HL7620/00 examples.
Blade configuration
Some appliances use different blades for wet and dry work. Philips says the HL7777/00 has two specialized blades: “one is the Dry Blade (minus shaped) , and the other is the Wet Blade (plus shaped).” The support guidance gives dhal batter and rice batter as wet-grinding examples. Use the blade supplied or specified for your appliance; do not swap blades or modify an assembly unless the manufacturer explicitly permits it.

A step-by-step method for choosing a jar
1. Identify the ingredient and the finished texture
- Choose wet grinding when you are making a batter, purée, wet masala, paste, lassi or milk shake and the manufacturer lists that preparation for the wet jar.
- Choose dry grinding for dry spices, dry rice, sugar and dry chutney ingredients when the manual assigns them to the dry jar.
- Check for a separate liquidising or chutney jar when the appliance documentation names one. Do not infer the function from the jar’s shape alone.
The Philips examples are useful for identifying the type of task, but they are not a universal recipe list. Your model’s manual may impose different ingredients, quantities or operating instructions.
2. Match the batch to the rated capacity
Do not select a jar by measuring its physical volume or by choosing the largest container. Manuals can provide separate rated quantities for dry grinding, wet grinding and liquidising, even when the same jar body has a larger nominal volume.
A Bosch manual illustrates this distinction by listing different dry, wet and liquidising capacities for its big, medium, chutney and blender jars. It also states that the minimum capacity for the listed jars is at least to blade level. Those figures and the blade-level requirement belong to the Bosch appliance covered by that manual; they should not be copied as generic limits for another brand or series.
McCoy’s mixer manual likewise gives task-specific quantity and speed guidance. Its listed examples recommend a maximum of half the jar for certain dry and chutney grinding tasks. That half-jar recommendation is not a universal rule. Treat it as a reminder to follow the quantity and speed table supplied with your own machine.

3. Confirm the blade and attachment
Look for an illustration, part number or written instruction that identifies the wet, dry, chutney or liquidising blade. If your model has separate blades, install only the blade assigned to the selected task. The Philips HL7777/00 example demonstrates why: its wet and dry blades are deliberately distinguished, including by their shapes and intended uses.
4. Inspect the lid and seal arrangement
Check whether the selected jar requires a gasket, a particular lid, a locking position or another supplied component. Philips’ wet and dry jars for HL7610/00 and HL7620/00 use different gasket arrangements, so a lid that fits physically may still be the wrong assembly for the job.
5. Verify the appliance identity before buying a spare
- Find the exact model number printed on the appliance, rating label, manual or original packaging.
- Record the version or regional variant if the manufacturer uses one.
- Use the manufacturer’s parts information or an authorised spare-parts seller to locate the jar assembly.
- Match the complete assembly or the individual jar, lid, gasket, blade and coupler part numbers as instructed.
- Confirm that the replacement is listed for that exact model before ordering.
The Philips jar and blade pages tie their configurations to specific model numbers, and the Bosch capacity table is likewise model-specific. The available manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal cross-brand compatibility rule.

Worked choices for common kitchen tasks
Rice or dal batter
Start with the wet-grinding jar if your manual follows the Philips examples. Check the wet capacity and the specified wet blade, then follow the machine’s quantity and operating instructions. Do not switch to the dry jar merely because the rice or dal starts dry; the finished batter is a moist preparation and the manufacturer may assign it to the wet assembly.
Dry spices or sugar
Use the dry-grinding jar when the manual lists dry masalas, dry rice or sugar for it. Verify the maximum quantity and speed in the appliance instructions. The Philips dry-jar examples include these ingredients, while McCoy’s manual shows that dry-grinding limits can be expressed as a task-specific fraction of the jar.
Wet masala or fruit paste
Use the wet jar if the manufacturer lists wet masalas or paste. Philips includes wet masalas and dry-fruit paste among the wet-jar applications for HL7610/00 and HL7620/00. Confirm the lid and gasket arrangement before operating, especially if you are replacing a component.
Chutney
First determine whether the recipe is a dry chutney, a wet chutney or a large batch. Philips lists chutneys in larger quantities under its dry jar, while Orient Electric identifies chutney as a distinct jar function in example configurations. The name of the recipe alone is not enough; use the jar category and quantity table in your appliance manual.
Lassi or a milk shake
Philips lists lassi and milk shakes for the wet jar in the HL7610/00 and HL7620/00 guidance. Another appliance may label these jobs as liquidising. If your manual supplies a liquidising jar, follow that assignment instead of copying the Philips arrangement.

Capacity, filling and operating limits
Physical volume is not the same as rated quantity
A jar can have room above the recommended working level. Conversely, a smaller jar can be the correct choice for a task because its blade and rated quantity are designed for that batch. Use the capacity table for the exact appliance, and carry the qualification with every number: a Bosch capacity is for the model covered by the Bosch manual, not a general mixer-grinder specification.
Respect minimum fill guidance
The cited Bosch manual says the minimum capacity for its listed jars is at least to blade level. If your own manual gives a different minimum, use that value. Running a jar with ingredients below the specified level can place the batch outside the manufacturer’s operating guidance.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Respect maximum fill guidance
McCoy’s manual demonstrates that maximum quantities can vary by task and speed, with certain dry and chutney examples limited to half the jar. Do not turn that example into a universal half-fill rule. A different appliance may specify another quantity, a different speed or a different jar.
Follow the speed and sequence instructions
Task-specific instructions can cover both quantity and speed. Read the complete entry for the selected ingredient rather than borrowing the speed for another jar. If the manual does not assign a task to a particular jar, do not infer permission from a similar-looking attachment.

When the original jar is cracked, lost or worn, identify the appliance before searching for a replacement. The useful search description is the model-compatible wet grinding jar, dry grinding jar or complete replacement mixer-grinder jar for your model—not simply “large jar” or a capacity number.
- Match the exact model number and version.
- Confirm whether the listing includes the jar body, lid, gasket, blade and coupler or only one component.
- Check that the blade type is the one specified for wet or dry work.
- Verify the lid and gasket arrangement against the original documentation.
- Confirm the seller’s compatibility statement with the manufacturer’s parts information.
- Ask about the correct regional or series variant when the model name appears in more than one configuration.
A generic jar may not fit even when its diameter, capacity or external appearance seems similar. The manufacturer examples tie jar and blade assemblies to particular models, and the cited manuals do not establish cross-brand interchangeability.
Common selection errors and how to correct them
Using the biggest jar for every task
Why it fails: The largest physical jar may have a different blade, rated quantity or intended function.
Correction: Choose by the manufacturer’s task assignment and capacity table, then confirm the required blade and lid.
Assuming every wet jar has a gasket
Why it fails: Philips’ two model examples distinguish a wet jar with a gasket from a dry jar without one, but that arrangement is not a universal definition.

Swapping wet and dry blades
Why it fails: Philips identifies separate wet and dry blades for HL7777/00.
Correction: Use the blade named in the manual and do not alter the assembly unless the manufacturer permits it.
Filling by eye
Why it fails: Bosch and McCoy manuals show that minimums, maximums and task capacities can be specified separately.
Correction: Follow the quantity and speed entry for the ingredient and jar you selected.
Buying a jar from another series because it looks compatible
Why it fails: Jar and blade configurations are documented against specific models, and no universal cross-brand compatibility rule is established.
Correction: Verify the appliance model and version with the manufacturer or an authorised parts seller before purchase.

- Write down the ingredient and the desired result: batter, paste, purée, powder, liquid or chutney.
- Find the appliance manual and locate the assigned jar category.
- Check the rated quantity for that task, including minimum and maximum fill guidance.
- Identify the correct blade and confirm whether a separate wet or dry blade is supplied.
- Check the lid, gasket and locking instructions.
- For a replacement, record the exact model number and version.
- Match every required part—jar, lid, gasket, blade and coupler—to that identity.
- Only then select the jar and operate it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
The practical rule is simple: let the appliance maker’s task labels, capacity table and attachment instructions decide. Philips, Bosch, McCoy and Orient Electric examples show that wet, dry, liquidising and chutney functions can be separated in different ways, so a jar that works for one model should not be treated as a universal answer for another.
