Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallChoose a Milwaukee accessory by starting with the operation and workpiece, then verify the accessory family, tool interface, size and reach. A bit that is ideal for concrete with rebar may be unsuitable for wood, metal, driving or a different hammer interface. Milwaukee sells task-specific families—including drill bits, core bits, hole saws, driving accessories, reciprocating-saw blades, circular-saw blades, bandsaw blades and oscillating-tool blades—so the correct choice depends on the job rather than the brand name alone.
The most important checks are the material, the hole or cut you need, the shank or mounting system, and the physical access available. Use Milwaukee’s stated compatibility and application information as a starting point, but confirm the exact pairing in your tool manual and the current accessory listing before use.

A six-step method for choosing an accessory
- Name the operation. Decide whether you are drilling, making a large opening, driving a fastener, cutting stock, or extending reach around an obstruction.
- Identify the workpiece. Separate concrete, concrete containing rebar, brick, block, wood, metal and mixed materials. The material determines tooth design, carbide construction and the accessory family.
- Define the required size. Record hole diameter, cut depth, blade length, fastener type or the reach needed to get past an obstruction.
- Identify the tool and interface. Note whether the tool is a drill, rotary hammer, SDS-Plus rotary hammer, SDS-Max hammer, reciprocating saw, circular saw, bandsaw or oscillating multi-tool. The mounting interface is not automatically interchangeable.
- Read the accessory’s application and compatibility statements. Check the product page and tool manual for the permitted material, tool type, diameter or length limits and any adapter requirement.
- Choose a single accessory or a set. A set is useful when several sizes in one task are likely; a single specialty accessory is usually better when the job has one unusual diameter, material or access constraint.
Start with the operation, not the product name
Drilling ordinary holes
For routine drilling, begin with the drill-bit family and then narrow the choice by material and diameter. A masonry bit is intended for masonry-type materials; a bit designed for wood or metal should not be treated as a substitute. If the task involves a rotary hammer, check whether the accessory uses SDS-Plus or SDS-Max rather than assuming a conventional round-shank bit will fit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a small number of holes in one diameter, buying one correctly sized bit can avoid paying for unused sizes. If the work involves several diameters or repeated installation jobs, a drilling set may reduce interruptions, provided every included size matches the tool and material you will actually use.

Making a large hole
Large openings in brick, block or concrete are a different operation from ordinary drilling. Milwaukee describes its SDS-Plus masonry core bits for large holes in those materials and for use with SDS-Plus rotary hammers. Core bits remove an annular section rather than cutting a small pilot hole, so verify both the required diameter and the hammer’s capacity before starting.
For large holes in mixed materials such as wood, metal and plastics, look at the hole-saw family instead of masonry core bits. Milwaukee’s catalog includes hole-saw sets and carbide-tooth options, but the correct tooth pattern still depends on the material and the saw arbor or mounting system.
Driving fasteners
Driving accessories are selected by fastener type and drive interface, not simply by the brand of the impact driver. Match the bit or socket to the fastener recess or head, confirm the accessory is rated for the tool’s impact use, and choose a length that keeps the bit seated without forcing the tool into an awkward angle. A driving set makes sense when a project uses several common sizes; a single specialty bit is preferable for one uncommon fastener.

Cutting material
Milwaukee’s cutting family includes Sawzall reciprocating-saw blades, hole saws, circular-saw blades and bandsaw blades. Select among them according to the saw you own, the material, the required cut shape and the desired finish. A reciprocating blade is suited to a different motion and access pattern than a circular-saw blade; neither should be swapped merely because both are described as cutting accessories.
Blade length and tooth configuration matter as much as the saw category. A longer reciprocating blade can reach through thicker stock, but excessive exposed length can increase deflection. A fine tooth pattern can provide a cleaner cut in suitable material, while a more aggressive pattern may remove material faster. Use the manufacturer’s stated application as the boundary rather than treating a general-purpose label as universal.
Reaching around an obstruction
Sometimes the operation is straightforward but the tool cannot reach the work. Milwaukee says its PLUS-LOK SDS-Plus extensions provide increased access in difficult-to-reach areas and around obstructions. The company states that these extensions are compatible with SDS-Plus rotary hammers and SDS-Plus accessories. Measure the added reach you need and check that the extension, hammer and accessory are all listed as compatible before using the combination.

Verify the tool interface before considering performance
SDS-Plus and SDS-Max are different systems
SDS-Plus and SDS-Max describe distinct hammer-accessory interfaces. Milwaukee states that its MX4 kit fits all SDS-Plus rotary hammers. That statement does not make the bits suitable for an SDS-Max hammer, nor does an SDS-Max accessory automatically fit an SDS-Plus tool. Check the exact interface printed in the accessory listing and the tool manual.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →When an adapter is appropriate
Milwaukee lists an SDS-Max-to-SDS-Plus adapter that allows SDS-Plus accessories to be used with an SDS-Max hammer. An adapter enables that particular interface combination; it does not make every SDS accessory interchangeable or remove the hammer’s diameter and operating limits. Confirm the adapter’s permitted accessories, the hammer’s operating mode and the manufacturer’s instructions before drilling.
Extensions change reach, not the basic application
A PLUS-LOK extension can help position an SDS-Plus accessory around an obstruction, but it does not turn a masonry bit into a concrete core bit or change the material rating. Treat the extension as part of the complete tool-accessory system and verify that the combined length and application remain within the instructions.
Use dimensions and access as selection criteria
Two accessories can fit the same tool while producing very different results. Record the required hole diameter, cut depth, blade length or reach before looking at a model number. For a blind hole, make sure the usable flute or cutting depth exceeds the required depth without bottoming out. For a through-hole, account for the thickness of the workpiece and the clearance behind it.
Access can be radial as well as straight-line. A bit may be short enough for the depth but impossible to align because a pipe, wall or adjacent framing member blocks the hammer. In that case, an extension or a different accessory geometry may solve the problem. Do not select an unnecessarily long accessory solely for convenience: extra length can make alignment harder and increase flex.
For saw blades, compare the machine’s permitted blade dimensions with the stock thickness and the cut path. A blade that is too short cannot complete the cut; one that is much longer than needed may wander. For hole saws, check the arbor, pilot bit and maximum cutting depth as a set rather than treating the cup diameter as the only specification.

When a set is better than a single accessory
Choose a set for repeated size changes
Milwaukee lists sets for drilling, driving, hole saws, masonry and concrete, as well as multiple blade families. A set is practical when an installation calls for several hole sizes, fastener types or cutting tasks. Before buying, list the sizes you will use and check how many of the included pieces are relevant; an inexpensive set with the wrong size range is not a useful saving.
Choose one specialty piece for a defined job
A single accessory is often the better choice for one large core hole, an unusual fastener, a specific blade length or a constrained access problem. Specialty pieces can also avoid forcing a general-purpose accessory into material it was not designed to cut.
Compare the complete system
When comparing a set with individual pieces, include the arbor, adapter, extension and replacement parts required to make the system work. A kit that appears complete may still need a mounting component for your particular saw or hammer. Conversely, an adapter already in your toolbox may make a narrower accessory selection sufficient.

Concrete containing rebar or masonry
Milwaukee’s 8-piece SDS-Plus MX4 4-Cutter Drill Bit Kit, model 48-20-7663, is a concrete-and-masonry example rather than a universal recommendation. Milwaukee states that the kit fits all SDS-Plus rotary hammers and is intended for concrete with rebar and masonry. The four-cutter solid-head carbide design is claimed by Milwaukee to deliver up to 5x longer life in concrete with rebar. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independent laboratory result, so use it as a stated product claim and still select the diameter and length required by the job.
The decision path is: confirm that the tool is SDS-Plus, identify whether rebar is present, select the required bit diameter and drilling depth, and then check the current listing and hammer manual. If the tool is SDS-Max, do not insert the bit directly; investigate the listed adapter and verify the complete pairing.
Large opening in brick, block or concrete
For a large hole, Milwaukee describes SDS-Plus masonry core bits for brick, block and concrete used with SDS-Plus rotary hammers. Start with the opening diameter and wall thickness, then verify the hammer’s capacity and the core bit’s mounting requirements. A standard drill bit will not substitute for a core bit simply because both remove masonry.

Using SDS-Plus accessories on an SDS-Max hammer
Milwaukee’s SDS-Max-to-SDS-Plus adapter is designed for this stated pairing. Confirm that the SDS-Plus accessory is approved for the adapter, that the hammer’s mode and energy are permitted, and that the resulting length remains controllable. If any of those conditions are unclear, stop and consult the manual rather than relying on the visual fit of the shank.

Working behind a pipe or other obstruction
Milwaukee’s PLUS-LOK SDS-Plus extensions are intended to increase access around obstructions. Measure the distance from the hammer’s chuck to the work area, select only the reach needed, and confirm compatibility with the SDS-Plus accessory and rotary hammer. Plan how the extended assembly will be supported and aligned before applying pressure.
Choosing a hole saw for mixed materials
Milwaukee’s Hole Dozer carbide-teeth hole saw family carries a manufacturer claim of “50X Life” for extreme multi-material cutting compared with bi-metal hole saws. The claim belongs to Milwaukee and is not an independent comparison. For your project, first identify the materials in the stack, then verify the hole-saw diameter, arbor, pilot bit, cutting depth and saw speed requirements. A durability claim does not override those fit and safety constraints.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to treat manufacturer performance claims
Performance language can help distinguish products within a family, but it should be read with its stated comparison and conditions attached. “Up to 5x longer life in concrete with rebar” for the MX4 kit and “50X Life” for the Hole Dozer carbide-tooth family are Milwaukee’s own claims. The available product descriptions do not establish independent testing across Milwaukee’s full accessory range, so do not assume either number predicts a guaranteed result on every material, tool or operator technique.
Look for the comparison baseline, material, application and qualifying word such as “up to.” Then compare the claim with the practical requirements: compatibility, diameter, depth, reach and replacement cost. A product with a favorable durability claim is still the wrong purchase if it cannot mount to your tool or cut the workpiece.
A purchase checklist you can use at the store
- Operation: drilling, coring, driving, reciprocating cutting, circular cutting, bandsaw cutting, oscillating cutting or access extension.
- Material: concrete, concrete with rebar, brick, block, wood, metal, plastic or a mixed stack.
- Tool: exact machine type and model, including rotary-hammer class where relevant.
- Interface: SDS-Plus, SDS-Max, saw arbor, blade mount, hole-saw arbor or driving interface.
- Size: diameter, blade length, tooth pitch, cut depth, fastener size or extension reach.
- Capacity: tool limits, accessory limits, maximum diameter and permitted operating mode.
- System parts: pilot bit, arbor, adapter, extension, socket or other component required for use.
- Quantity: one specialty accessory or a set with the sizes you actually need.
- Evidence: separate Milwaukee’s stated performance claim from independent testing, which is not established for the full range here.
- Current information: check the latest product listing and your tool manual because specifications, availability and listings can change.
Symptoms of a mismatch and what to do
The accessory will not seat or lock
Stop rather than forcing it. Recheck whether the tool requires SDS-Plus, SDS-Max, a specific saw arbor or a particular blade mount. A visually similar shank can still be incompatible. Look for the exact interface designation in both manuals.

The tool vibrates or the cut wanders
Check that the accessory is fully seated, straight and within the tool’s size limits. Excessive reach, a bent blade, a damaged bit or an unsuitable material can all increase vibration. Remove the accessory and inspect it before continuing.
The accessory overheats or cuts slowly
Confirm that the material matches the accessory family and that the tool is operating in the permitted mode and speed. A masonry core bit, metal-cutting blade and multi-material hole saw have different operating requirements. Do not compensate for a mismatch by applying excessive force.
The hole or cut is the wrong size
Measure the accessory itself and verify whether the listed size refers to the cutting diameter, arbor or nominal hole size. For a core bit or hole saw, account for the pilot and the required clearance. Replace the accessory with the correct diameter rather than enlarging a hole with an unsuitable tool.
Safe use and maintenance
Inspect bits, blades, arbors, adapters and extensions before each use. Look for cracks, missing carbide, bent blades, damaged locking grooves and excessive wear. Secure the workpiece, keep hands clear of the cutting path and wear the protective equipment required for the material and tool. Masonry and concrete work can create hazardous dust and fragments; follow the tool manufacturer’s dust-control and eye-protection instructions.
Keep the interface clean so the accessory can seat and lock fully. Do not modify a shank, grind away a locking feature or improvise an adapter. Store bits and blades so cutting edges are protected, and replace an accessory when wear prevents accurate or controlled work. After using an adapter or extension, inspect both mating interfaces before the next job.
The decision in one sentence
Choose the Milwaukee accessory whose family is explicitly intended for your operation and material, then prove that its interface, dimensions, reach and complete mounting system match your tool; only after those checks should durability or speed claims influence the decision.
